bj, gonna try your helpful tips. Mucho thanks! Will certainly keep this old brain working! Lol. Appreciate your going thru steps. Will be sure to let you know how I make out. Have been to MusOpen on the Touch but didn't know where to go with it. Asked me for email, user, password, so gave up. Got your info to go with now and hopefully will have better luck. Liked seeing "choir" on listing, as well as ballet music. Looking good! And do have CD drive on laptop, so this should be fun too. Will have to download iTunes on it and do some "ripping". Not familiar yet with "podcast" or iTunes U. Wonder if Touch 2nd gen has all the memory. Oh well, first things first, and get some MusOpen on my "old" ipod Touch 2nd gn! Lol.

I don't know what the Touch2nd minimum is, but you can check the capacity in
two ways --
on the device -- Settings-General-About
or in iTunes when hooked up to sync.
(do you have a sync cable for it?)

Audio files don't take up that much space; you can fit a lot of audio
(music, spoken word, etc) in a few Gigabytes. It's video (movies, pictures,
etc) that eats up the space.

Podcast is just like a recorded show -- there are both audio only ("radio")
and video ("tv") available.

iTunesU has a lot of more "educational" type "shows" -- audio or video
lectures & so on.

You might want to go to the support site

http://www.apple.com/support/ipodtouch/

first to read all about how to use a Touch.
My Touch2nd has iOS 4.2.1 which iTunes says is the latest it takes;
The support site doesn't list that exact iOS version but you could try 4.1
and 4.3 for information. Download the manual (PDF files) and read on your
computer.

PS Jennifer, wondering if you found anything good like choral singing in free apps. Have selected music category there, but am not familiar with any of icons there that will lead me to "easy listening" kind of song. You have any luck? And thanks.

Try MusOpen.org for free music to download. It's not an app, it's a source
of actual music. It's also a donation-supported org but you don't have to
donate. Memberships give more d/l privileges.

Download music itself (whether you buy it somewhere & import into iTunes, or
rip from your CDs into iTunes) and sync to device. You use the built-in
music app to play it.

BJ, best news heard all day. Thanks. Wanna get money's use out of the Touch, and do so by hearing what I like best, good music. Looking forward to checking out MusOpen. May even contribute if delighted! And as for downloading and importing into iTunes, never done it. Nor done any "sync-ing";. Got friends to show me, I hope! For now, another big "thank you" to you!

Do you have CDs of your music?
Does your computer have a CD/DVD slot?
If so, run iTunes, put a CD in the tray & close, and iTunes should ask you
if you want to import it into iTunes (my particular CD-tray sometimes needs
a 2nd harder shove-in to get a response!). Follow the prompts.

A *lot* of the music in my iTunes library is imported -- "ripped" -- from my
CDs.
(there are also ways to rip cassettes & even vinyl -- but it's not as easy
as CDs)

If you d/l from MusOpen, note where you d/l *to*. Then open iTunes to the
music list, and use the "import" function in the menu [File-Add file] --
navigate to the d/l folder & select tune(s) to import. Or have iTunes open
and also an Explorer window open and drag from d/l folder to iTunes music
list. Depending on your iTunes preferences settings
[Edit-Preferences-Advanced], this will either copy the file (leaving the
original d/l version where it was) or move it.

You may also be interested in browsing the iTunes Store podcast offerings --
most free; just search on any subject & look through the results. Same with
iTunesU -- lots of things to listen to & most of it FREE.

Happy listening.

Kurrants for iOS - A Social Media Search Engine Launches - Published on 02/25/14

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Singapore start-up, Holatastic Pte Ltd today announces Kurrants 1.3, the iOS version of the social media search application. Kurrants is a social media aggregator and a search tool that searches for key words and hashtags in users' posts in social media. The app instantly accesses the most current discussions and opinions on the user's search term. This is the first time such a service is available on multiple platforms, namely iOS, Android and web browser-based.

Cupertino, California - Singapore start-up Holatastic Pte Ltd, a three-man outfit comprising former college mates, launched today their iOS version of the social media search application Kurrants. This is the first time such a service is available on multiple platforms, namely iOS, Android and web browser-based.

"Kurrants is a personal social media search engine that puts the power of the crowd in your hands," enthused Holatastic founding member Song Young, 35. "These days, you can get a pulse on what people are saying about practically anything by plugging in to individual social network websites. But it can be a time-consuming, hit and miss affair digging for relevant content." The beauty of Kurrants is that it aggregates all the online talk on your search topic and serves it up to you pronto on your mobile gadget.

"Basically, if people are talking about it, with Kurrants, you're going to know about it. This is a search tool that literally takes the sweat out of online research. Kurrants streamlines the search process and pools all the discussions on your search topic from various social media. With Kurrants, users gain access to the heart of discussions because the search focuses on social media content which is typically off-limits with search engines like Google or Yahoo. Kurrants promises users ease-of-use, speed, relevancy and results that are up-to-date. It's a potent combination!" said Young.

How Kurrants works:

To look up a subject matter, simply key in the search term and hit 'search'. The app instantly accesses the most current discussions and opinions on the user's search term. Users can further filter search results by their preferred social media. For example, a user can select to only mine the discussions on Twitter for instance.

Features:
* Integration with Twitter, Instagram, & Tumblr (Facebook, Google+ and Pinterest soon to follow)

* Searching of posts with texts and images.
* Filter search results by social media
