I had the same problem too. I have a Windows 10 computer and have the
newest iPod Nano and latest iTunes. I connected my iPod and iTunes couldn't
see it. I restarted my computer and made sure I used the original charging
cable. I think if you have an Apple cable you should be ok too. That seemed
to work. I connected it and iTunes started up and it worked fine. Be sure
your iTunes is up to date and good luck.

I can't sync mine either -- though I'm pretty sure I've done it within the
last year+ or so, under Win10. (I could be mis-remembering.)
I think maybe something in the latest updates has farkled the connection --
maybe some sort of driver problem?
iTunes doesn't even see the device (it's an old 30gig for ~2006; I haven't
tried my similar vintage Nano but suspect it'd be the same).

There are Apple forums you could ask on; I may get around to that sometime
now that I've learned there's a problem. I don't use those old devices much
anymore but it would be nice to have the option (I have a hookup for them in
my car, which is even older than they are).

I love my ipod and would love to continue loving it. but lately it is not
syncing. I've upgraded my computer to Windows 10 and perhaps it doesn't
support the ipod classic? I don't know, but I am hoping someone else does.
I wouldn't mind paying for someone to help me with this if we can get it to
work. Please advise. Thank you!!
