I never could get Macam to work with my cameras, but SecuritySpy seems
to work with them at least under OS 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.
I have it on a test basis and am having an issue with a D-Link camera
right now. Can only get it to run at 1 frame per second via Ethernet.
D-Link is not particularly savvy or friendly towards Mac setups. The
camera DCS-2230 came with a setup CD but only windows version. Plugging
it in, Security Spy sees it right away, but any frame rates set there
don't seem to get to the camera. My Logitech Pro 9000 on USB runs at 25
frames per second. Copying the settings to the D-Link unit has no
effect. Not sure if it's the camera, or the network speed, or the SS
software. Troubleshooting it when l have some more time.

Check it out. Demo is free to try.

There are alternatives, but to my knowledge they all broke as of Lion:

CamCamX ($10)

Thanks, Randy.
I've decided to avoid buying drivers that might not work, junk the old
webcam and get a new one with an integrated microphone - I've been
using a Bluetooth headset to avoid using the complicated multiple
audio in/out socket on the Mac Mini - but I guarantee that when I need
it the headset batteries need charging!

After a trawl through net reviews of webcams used with the Mac it came
down to a choice of the Logitech C920 or C615 - maybe used with webcam
settings software from Mactaris -
https://itunes.apple.com/app/webcam-settings/id533696630?mt=12 - or
iGlasses http://ecamm.com/.

After some tooth-sucking I decided that the cheaper C615 was good
enough - and unlike the C920 was explicitly stated as being Mac UVC
plug & play compatible:
http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/app/answers/detail/a_id/6471/section/troubleshoot/crid/405/lt_product_id/8041/tabs/1,3,2,4,5/cl/us,en

Amazon.fr seem to be selling it at a discount on the full Logitech price.

regards,
Ian

Exactly, the group name appears when I type it into any one of the address fields but I can not see the individual members of the group. I need to do so because I may want to remove one or more recipients from that particular email.

Does this not work for any group? Is it the same if there are lots of, or
just a few, members? We need to try and narrow this down.

I'm using Mail.app 5.3 under Lion, but if I drag a group name to the "To" field, then click on it, I get a drop down menu that includes "expand group" and when I can delete the names I want out of there. Does this not happen for you?

I haven't used 10.7 but in 10.8, I can *not* drag a group from Contacts to
Mail; it just "springs" back. If I type a group name into the To field in
Mail, it matches as I type. Whichever is selected, it expands when I press
Enter and I can then delete any I want to. I don't see an Expand option at
any point.

Howdy.

Just a thanks to Tod!

The script continues to work except for the force shut down part.

I've now tested it with hard drive sleep on and off in Energy Saver and
with computer sleep both on and off in Energy Saver.

Just left a BD disc in the drive on purpose and went to a movie with
the Polling script running and all of the drive and computer sleep
options enabled. Three hours later the BD drive has not disappeared.

Moving Tales' New iPad App Release To This Day Based on Viral Video - Published on 05/30/13

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Vancouver based Moving Tales, the innovative producers of the world-wide bestselling 3D animated story 'The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross', have released their newest iPad app, a collaboratively animated spoken word poem by Shane Koyczan. The To This Day App is based on a viral video of the same name, that has had over nine million views. This powerful anti-bullying themed iPad App is now available for free from the App Store, where it is listed in the New and Noteworthy section.

Vancouver, Canada - Moving Tales, the producers of innovative poetic 3D animated story apps and enhanced Ebooks, including the world-wide bestselling 'The Pedlar Lady of Gushing Cross', have released their newest iPad app, a collaboratively animated spoken word poem by Shane Koyczan. The To This Day App is based on a viral video of the same name, that has had over nine million views. This powerful anti-bullying themed iPad App is now available for free from the App Store, where it is listed in the New and Noteworthy section.

"We are very proud to be part of this important endeavor, bringing this anti-bullying message to an even larger audience. Shane's poem is powerful, the animation wonderful, the music subtly effective, the message universal and timely." says Moving Tales founder Matthew Talbot-Kelly. "The poem's legacy combined with the unique capabilities of our app engine, which include the random selection of alternate animations and allowing the user to record their own voice to be played with these animations, means that there are literally thousands of unique experiences of the poem. Significantly, the app is available for free."

The To This Day iPad App is based on a powerful anti-bullying themed spoken word poem, written and performed by Shane Koyczan, and animated by dozens of different animators. Every viewing and experience of the poem in this free app is unique thanks to randomly selected animated clip variations for most of the poem's stanzas. Other features include the option to record your own version of the poem to be played with the animation, share your favorite stanzas with your friends via Facebook, Twitter and Email, enjoy the text in English, Spanish and French, link directly to the ToThisDay project web site from within the app, and much more.

"My experiences with violence in schools still echo throughout my life but standing to face the problem has helped me in immeasurable ways." says poet Shane koyczan. "I wrote To This Day, a spoken word poem, to further explore the profound and lasting impact that bullying can have on an individual. Schools and families are in desperate need of proper tools to confront this problem. We can give them a starting point... A message that will have a far reaching and long lasting effect in confronting bullying."

"There is a great collective spirit behind the To This Day Project." says Talbot-Kelly. "Produced by Vancouver's Giant Ant, many people collaborated on the animation for the hit video, which forms the basis for the App. We are especially excited to be able to include so many additional animated sequences in the app as compared to the video version. We hope young people and old can take heart from the poems important message."

Shane Koyczan is both a writer and spoken word virtuoso, an extraordinary talent that has blown the dust off of the designation "poet". In a realm where poets rarely intersect with stardom, the Opening Ceremonies for the 2010 Winter Olympics introduced us to Shane Koyczan. With a collective "wow", we found the poet of our generation. And we weren't even looking for one! The world took notice when the video for Koyczan's influential, anti-bullying poem, To This Day went viral in early 2013 with over 9.1 million views and counting. By turn hilarious and haunting, Koyczan's TED talk was received with a standing ovation.

Powerfully engaging and authentic in attitude, Koyczan's explorations are relevant to our times in the way that Bob Dylan, Joni Mitchell, Gordon Downie and Leonard Cohen are to theirs. But unlike the musicians that he's often compared to, poets rarely infiltrate pop culture. Koyzcan emerges in a new wave of 21st century poetry that dares to belong to the people and speak directly to them in their own voice.

Koyczan is perhaps best known for his award winning spoken word performances. With his rhythmic verse in high gear, he navigates his audience through social and political territory with a furious honesty and a tender humanity that has brought audiences to their feet in New York, London, Edinburgh, Sydney and Los Angeles, to name a few. Shane has received 5 star reviews for his performance at the 2012 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, is the Winner of the US Slam Poetry Championship and the Canadian Spoken Word Olympics. His published books are: Visiting Hours (2005), Stickboy (2007) and Our Deathbeds will be Thirsty (2012).

Namer - The Origin of Names released for iPhone and iPod touch - Published on 05/31/13

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Lisbon based developer, Jorge O'Neill today announces Namer - The Origin of Names 1.2, an update to his popular entertainment app developed for iOS devices. In the easiest and simplest way possible, Namer - The Origin of Names is an App that allows the user to find the origin and meaning of personal names. Version 1.2 introduces some nice interface tweaks, as well as the content has also been significantly enhanced, with new names added to the extensive list of names available.

Lisbon, Portugal - Jorge O'Neill today is pleased to announce the release of Namer - The Origin of Names 1.2, an update to his popular entertainment app developed for iPhone and iPod touch (compatible with iPad). In one sentence, 'Namer - The Origin of Names' is an App that allows the user to find the origin and meaning of personal names, in the easiest and simplest way possible.

Several Apps where already available on the App Store, that showed a list of personal names and some sort of descriptions. However, most seemed to have a combination of blunt interfaces, sparse or inaccurate name descriptions, or tons of non-sense names just for bragging rights of the sheer number of names provided. This lack of good Apps available in its category was seen by the App development team as a great opportunity for the development of 'Namer - The Origin of Names'.

"I believe that this kind of 'single task' mobile App, has to do what it does in the quickest and simplest way possible, at the risk of loosing the users attention and interest" says Jorge O'Neill, the Lead Developer in this project. "It should also be pleasant to use: it should be aesthetically appealing and provide full functionality without requiring from the user any additional learning than what is needed to operate the device where the App is installed".

With that in mind, 'Namer - The Origin of Names' was developed with the goal of making the simple tasks of finding, viewing, storing and sharing meaningful name descriptions, as simple and enjoyable as possible. The greatest relevance and dedication however was given to content. An accurate and meaningful name origin/meaning database was built by researching several different sources.

App Features:
* Sensible names and meaningful descriptions. Unlike other apps, we don't want to waste your time with nonsense
* For every name you'll have its meaning in a couple of words, and a more detailed text describing its origin
* Browse names by gender, using the convenient index feature
* Search by name
* Search by meaning
* Add to your own list of favorite names with no need to register, just by tapping the star next to the names you like
* Share names with your friends on Facebook (available only for iOS 6.0 and above), Twitter or by E-mail
* Optimized for Retina Display and for the 4 inch iPhone 5 and 5th generation iPod touch screens

Version 1.2 released today further enhances the look and feel of the App, by providing some key user interface tweaks. Content has also been significantly improved, with the addition of new names to the already extensive database and the enhancement of several name descriptions.

Device Requirements:
* iPhone 3GS, 4, 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch and iPad
* Requires iOS 5.0 or later
* 0.4 MB

Pricing and Availability:
Namer - The Origin of Names 1.2 is $1.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Entertainment category.

IMMEDIATE RELEASE

2 Indie developers working collectively as "Basic Function LLC", are announcing Hungry Lizards, their new Universal iOS Game. Meet the hungriest of lizards, Spike & Lizia. After the great bug famine of 2013 these two have been traveling the globe in search of any little bug they can get their grubby tongues on.
