Posted: 14 Jan 2012 04:15 PM PST

Apple’s been on a roll over the last few days, releasing a detailed supplier list for the first time, and joining the Fair Labor Association. But the company’s not just stopping with improving the working conditions of its supply chain.

It’s also working on improving its environmental footprint. The London Evening Standard is reporting that Apple has asked Volex, the manufacturer that makes all of its USB and power cables, to switch to halogen-free materials…(...)

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 02:30 PM PST

This is kind of interesting. The JakartaGlobe is reporting that three of Apple’s Singapore-based carrier partners are planning to offer camera-less iPhone 4S models to their subscribers in the near future.

While this removes one of the handset’s biggest features — its 8MP camera, it does make the device more appealing to the the military crowd. Which is perfect, because that’s exactly who they’re targeting…(...)

Why I’m a Fan of Technology, Not Just Apple

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 07:35 AM PST

This year’s CES seems to have raised an interesting question, and it’s one that I’ve pondered myself on occasion. It’s an issue that often comes around whenever there is a trade show that Apple does not attend, so that’s basically all of them these days.

App Store Apps Now Show “Quick Look” Previews in iTunes

Posted: 14 Jan 2012 04:00 AM PST

Apple’s iTunes is far from ideal as a home for the App Store, but we’ve made do with it for so long that it just sort of feels like home. Apple has made a subtle change to the way iTunes displays app information on a computer.

Until now, the only way to see an app’s description was to click it and wait for iTunes to refresh itself and display the app’s own page. Now things are a little less clunky, with a new preview option added to app listings.

(...)
