Yeap...

not a one noticed this is from a first-time poster, and that he offered nothing about himself, his company or the application name, nothing.

I know I'm mildly paranoid about this thing called the internet, but there is a reason.

Yeah, but she is talking about Safari on an iPhone, not an iPad or computer.

That's correct, Nada. I don't get it. Why have it as an option on the iPhone if it can't be used as used on iPad or Mac.

It is not an option on the iPhone, but is on the other two.

And it is all because of the physical form factor.

Then all of us who are on unlimited are actually paying $30 for a $25 data plan?

Cathy

> I too have the unlimited data plan with AT&T. For the first time last month, I exceeded 2g's of data usage. I am usually just shy of 1G monthly. I received a threatening text message from AT&T stating that I am now considered in the top 5% of excessive data users and if I exceed 2g's again, they will limit the speed at which I download data. They advised that I downgrade to the 2G plan and then pay for additional if I exceed so that the speed at which I download will not be affected. This sounds like extortion to me! What's the point of unlimited if you can't use it? And I really don't appreciate being threatened like that, especially it being the one and only time I've even come close to 2g's for any given month. Like stated below, they have gotten plenty of money from me due to the fact that I rarely exceed 1g monthly.

Doesn't Tom Tom require GPS signals via cell data to give accurate turn by turn directions? Wouldn't that require constant connection like MapQuest?

No, there is a GPS radio in the iPhone that is completely separate from the cellular radio.

The only thing TomTom uses data for is traffic updates (if you sign up for that), and very occasional map updates (which can be done on Wifi, instead, if available). Furthermore, you can turn off data services entirely from it's settings function.

I heard that AT&T doesn't have true unlimited anymore. I don't if that's true or not. If it's true, people like you and I that are grandfathered in aren't really on unlimited. Calling and asking AT&T doesn't answer the question. The service reps try and change the subject on me.

You cannot sign up for unlimited if you don't already have it. They continue "grandfathered" unlimited plans, although they will throttle download speed for high users.

It sounds like that is somewhere between 2 and 3 GB/month, which is not
exactly high use.

Make sure you save the text message, also print it out and the full bill for that month, prior month and following month. Also any information you have on your unlimited data plan. Put it away in a real safe place.

Then call AT&T and ask them if it was sent in error, and to show you numbers to substantiate their claim that you are in the top 5%. And to define top 5% of all users or unlimited data users. Take good notes. If you go into a store, make sure it is a AT&T company store and not a franchise store. Better yet, call AT&T, so their answers don't change because you are taking notes.

Who knows where the fault lays without more testing, but instead of testing, take it back to Verizon and tell them. Also tell them you want another iPhone or you are returning it.

You should have 30 days to return it for a full refund. It sounds like you may just have a lemon.

If you want to try the microcell, fine, but exchange the iPhone first, because after 30 days you are out of luck.

Thanks to everyone who has tried to help with this, so far. Much appreciated. :-)

I went to look at the "thingie" and it's a cell phone signal booster. It was fairly expensive, but so worth it. I don't think it's a micro cell, if that's something that can be given away at no charge by the cell phone companies. I swear, after all the problems I had with the reception of my old iPhone on AT&T, in THIS location, I was dancing for joy when we got the booster. Four and five bars! The old phone worked fine in metro locations, as does my new 4s, which I've now had a few months.

To answer someone's question about why I switched from AT&T to Verizon if I had no problem beforehand, it was simply a matter of being able to talk with other family members on Verizon without using minutes.

I don't think my new iPhone is a lemon, and I love the 4s! I was using my original "antique" iPhone, and the battery on that one finally gave out mere weeks after getting the 4s. Got a lot of good years out of that phone! :-)

So, the question remains about why my DH's Droid, also on Verizon, gets more bars than what I can get on my phone. Haven't done anything to the booster but perhaps there is something that can be changed to respond to my iPhone better?

Again, the signal strength is fine in most areas, but not here in this house in the "Boonies". The booster was a dream come true for my old iPhone when I had AT&T, and I want the same thing for my new iPhone on Verizon.

Anyone out there familiar with how to "fix" a booster so that it responds to my 4s? Again, thanks again for the input you all have given me so far. Happy 2012! :-)

As I understand, the "booster" is a device that uses your WiFi/internet
to make and receive calls. You are still charged minutes but you are
using your internet/WiFi. Your current booster is ATT, you would need to
buy the Verizon version booster to help your 4S.

Have you tried updating your phone *228 ?

You should take the 4S back to Apple or Verizon and get a replacement
tomorrow! The 4S has the fixed antenna and should have as good/better
reception than an android phone. If one Verizon phone is getting and
making calls they both should.

one more thing. The ATT Microcell only works with 3G…. Your 3G must be turned on.

I was not saying that all iPhones or all iPhone 4S are lemons, just the one you have may be a lemon.

If your husband has a good signal on his Droid, the iPhone should get a similar signal strength. That is why I am saying you may have a lemon.

If you had a "booster" for AT&T it is GSM and will not work for Verizon's CDMS signal. You have to buy another. They are one or the other, but not both.

I, on the other hand, am frustrated beyond belief -- I cannot make or receive calls without problems with hearing or dropping! Stereo docks

Ok my alarm just bought the dust and instead of buying a new alarm I thought I would get opinions on iphone alarm docks.

There's 2 options here

1. Just get a dock that is a pair of speakers and use a clock on my iphone as an alarm

2. Get an alarm clock that has a clock and just use it as a pair of speakers .

# 1 is a nice option because I can listen to any radio station using my iphone but I just thought I would get some great opinions and maybe even some people here have music docking stations I never heard of .

Let me know all your valuable knowledge is a great help.

Thank you

Not sure I understand your option #2 there.

Big advantage of a dock that is also an alarm clock is that it will
charge the phone, so you have it at 100% in the morning. Something
like an iHome also lets you control it with an app.

Here's what I use. I found it cheaper on eBay. Charges and you can sleep/wake to music and use the ihome sleep app.
