Long Weekend today introduces Chinese Flash 1.0 for iOS, their new tool for studying Chinese vocabulary. Chinese Flash combines the concept of a spaced-repetition flash card system along with native pronunciation of each pinyin tone. Tokyo, Japan - Chinese Flash, a new tool for studying Chinese vocabulary, launched January 9th on the Apple App Store. The tool combines the concept of a spaced-repetition (SRS) flash card system along with native pronunciation of each pinyin tone.

Preloaded with over 150 study sets, the app lets users focus on relevant vocabulary, such as word lists for the HSK and TOFCL (Taiwan-based) tests. Users can also create their own study sets out of the 100,000+ word built-in Chinese-English dictionary, which is convenient for quickly adding new words learned "in the wild" to a study list.

Chinese Flash also offers each tone pronounced by a native speaker from the popular Chinese learning site Lingomi.

"Lingomi's philosophy is a balanced approach to Chinese learning; vocabulary, characters, and tones - we couldn't agree more, and are proud to offer their great audio content as part of our product on the iOS platform," said Mark Makdad, a director at Long Weekend, makers of Chinese Flash.

The new version has been updated to support iOS 5.

The iCarbs app provides information about foods and how they are rated for carbohydrate content. This is given as a means to assist in deciding which foods to eat. In addition to being useful for diabetics, who need to make sure they don't exceed their recommended daily amount of Carbohydrates (carbs), iCarbs will also help bodybuilders get the high intake of carbs they want. The following colors help readily identify which is which:

* Black = Rated extremely high in Carbs (45.01 - 166.46 g)
* Dark Red = Rated very high in Carbs (30.01 - 45.00 g)
* Red = Rated high in Carbs (15.01 - 30.00 g)
* Orange = Rated moderately high in Carbs (12.01 - 15.00 g)
* Yellow = Rated moderate in Carbs (9.01 - 12.00 g)
* Light Green = Rated moderately low in Carbs (6.01 - 9.00 g)
* Green = Rated low in Carbs (3.01 - 6.00 g)

The All Foods table includes a search capability to quickly find food servings you are interested in.

Selecting an item in any of the tables will display pertinent information about the selected food serving:

Information is derived from the USDA National Nutrient Database for Standard Reference: Carbohydrate Content of Selected Foods per Common Measure. There are currently over 1,100 different food servings included, searchable using approximately 2,500 names (some foods are known by different names or how they are prepared, e.g., "Egg, Scrambled" and "Scrambled Egg"). Although originally designed for persons participating in 12-Step programs, it has since been discovered a Moral Inventory can help anyone analyze their life to learn more about themselves than ever imagined possible ... and at only a small fraction the cost of a single visit to a therapist. Create your own personal Life Inventory using an iPad, iPhone or iPod touch. "Life Inventory iPad" is for the iPad, and "Life Inventory" is for the iPhone or iPod touch.

Background:
The Life Inventory apps were created because of the complexity and length of time needed to complete a proper Moral Inventory. When persons working their way through a 12-step program start creating their own moral inventory and discover that some ways of doing a Moral Inventory might require a thousand spreadsheets, the task seems daunting and many never get around to finishing it, thus depriving themselves of the rewards a completed Moral Inventory can provide. This app is an attempt at finding a way to make the task less time consuming, while at the same time helping the user create a valuable asset in their recovery process.

Storage of the Life Inventory data is done using an underlying database which can be backed up and restored as necessary.

Disclaimer - This app is neither officially produced nor approved by Alcoholics Anonymous or any other Addiction Recovery program. From what is known there have been many Moral Inventory spreadsheets circulating unofficially among AA members for at least 50 years in various versions and this app is based on one the developer found to be useful and more comprehensive than most.

Acknowledgement:
Many thanks to "George" and his "Dungeon Prison Complete" spreadsheet which has been used as the outline for this app. This spreadsheet was developed based on years of his own personal research of the AA Big Book, along with help from many others who had already gone through the process of completing their own Moral Inventories. This was done in order to more fully understand the concepts necessary for completing his own Moral Inventory. George's extensive research resulted in the creation of the "Dungeon Prison Complete" spreadsheet, a detailed set of instructions on how to create a Moral Inventory, including several new concepts not directly covered in the AA Big Book: Sources of Anxiety/Excitement as a 4th Category; and a set of Sex Relations exercises. Both of these new elements were discovered to be critical in eventually understanding why we do what we do, the end result of completing your own Moral Inventory.

Anyone, Not Just 12-Steppers, Can Benefit from Completing a Life Inventory:

The process of completing a Life Inventory doesn't directly address addictions specifically, but rather helps the user examine in detail events that have transpired in their life. The Life Inventory apps gently assists the user in probing into not only what happened, but also why it happened. The questions asked help the user delve into areas often never considered before like:

* What did I want?
* Why did I want it?
* What am I not admitting?
* What lie did I tell myself? (always present)
* What did I leave out or not say?
* What lie did I tell others?
* Have I ever done the same thing?
* Was it any of my business?
* Were my expectations reasonable?
* What was the real truth?

* Did I fail to see the facts of the situation?
* What actions did I take to get what I wanted?

Sometimes the questions are difficult to answer, but once done, they help provide significant insight into why certain choices were made and, more importantly, determining there are often alternative choices available which will make life so much better in the future.

With this milestone release iNMR becomes a 64-bit application. All the Carbon code has been ported to Cocoa and the interface has been redrawn, with new cursors, new icons and new dialogs.

Current customers will feel comfortable with the changes, because there is nothing new to learn, while many details of the user interface have been simplified. The interaction with the program is more intuitive, immediate and natural. The list of changes is quite long and takes a whole page on the official web site.

Nucleomatica has been trying, for years, to offer the same identical product to the widest range of users. After the introduction of Lion, however, this proposal had become too difficult to fulfill and the time had come to move on and leave somebody behind. Version 5 requires Snow Leopard and a 64-bit Intel CPU. Version 4 and the "iNMR reader", both compiled as universal binary, are still available for older machines, those running Tiger or Leopard. Documents and scripts can be exchanged back and forth between the old and the new versions, meaning that there is no problem if different computers in the same lab have different versions of iNMR installed.

Since its first appearance in 2005, iNMR has been popular among the scientific community for its unique way of working with NMR data, expressed in the motto: "the ultimate NMR experience". Version 5 brings this experience to a new level of pleasure, according to what beta-testers have said. iNMR is also the only NMR software running on a Mac, if cross-platform applications are excluded from the count.

That player attempts to draw a picture that will allow any other player to correctly guess the puzzle. Players can see each other's guesses and chat with each other all through the game. Players' scores are based on how quickly they guess/draw correctly. Fully drawing capabilities are built in to the app, and a practice mode allows players an opportunity to hone their skills.

Charades is a multi-player game and challenges the players' knowledge, speed, richness of associations, and manual skills. Invite 1, 2, or 3 friends and acquaintances from all over the world to play via Game Center. Each player takes turns to draw a randomly selected phrase on the screen, while the remaining players hurry to be the first person to guess that phrase. The players are able to see one another�s guesses. The sooner the correct phrase is guessed, the more points go to the accounts of the successful guesser and the player drawing.

The application is fully translated into English, Spanish, French, German, and Polish. Each language version contains a few thousand ideally selected phrases: single words, phrases, sayings, and proverbs. The game remains interesting through regular updating and improving of the phrase database. Each user can also submit his or her own proposals and suggestions! The language of the phrase dictionary can be changed at any moment so that players can try their strength in other languages. The language interface is automatically set based on the device's user settings.

The game ends after 500 points have been reached � at that moment in the archive, players will find a few tens of pictures, drawn during the course of the game. The pictures can be marked as favorites, sent by e-mail to acquaintances, or published on Facebook.

After a short while we arrive at the conclusion that the greatest source of satisfaction in the game is not winning it. Scoring points becomes merely additional motivation once the players realize that the greatest fun is in the guessing. The win is announced discreetly as a piece of systemic information as the points are zeroed out. It is deciphering your competitors� pictures and drawing your own images that is the chief source of pleasure, laughs, and amusement which make every player feel like a winner.

There is also a special, optional Training mode. Whenever a user wishes to polish their skills, they can do so without the pressure of timing and points, by simply selecting that option from the menu and practicing drawing of suggested phrases for as long as they like. Players can erase and redraw the pictures until they are fully satisfied with the results. Those pictures will also be saved in the archive, so users can return to them and share them at any time.

Tiles are numbered from 1 to 9 and each is one of six colors. At the start of play, a key number is chosen randomly, which can be 3, 4, or 5. Players have 8 tiles each, and they try to achieve the maximum score each turn, placing tiles that must be played in a crossword style vertical and horizontal arrangement, so that the newly created row or column is a multiple of the key number. For example, if the key number were 5, the tiles played could add up to 5, 10, 15, 20, etc. Making the game particularly challenging, is the rule that two tiles of the same color cannot be used in a single vertical or horizontal line.

Pronounced soo-moh-koo', the term refers to pattern created by the tiles on the board. As in Scrabble-like games, winning requires careful thought and a bit of luck. Frequently, playing just one or two tiles that adds on to a previous row or column may be a player's best play. As a Bonus, each time a player creates or completes a line of all six different colors, they play again. Players resupply to the full complement of 8 tiles after each turn. Joe and his friends must cooperate to solve the ever-more-difficult puzzles on their way to the exit, and escape.

Colorado Springs, Colorado - Metal Sole Studio, the newest independent game studio on the block, today is thrilled to announce the release and immediate availability of "Joe Monkey Escapes" for the iPad. A Platform-Puzzler, Joe Monkey Escapes uses a platform-based world to tell the story of Joe Monkey and his friends held captive by the evil Dr. Serious Lee. Dr. Lee has recently invented a new planet-melting device and needs Joe's help to get the device working. (Okay, he actually bought it online).

Players use Joe and his friends to solve over 50 levels of puzzles. Nothing is out-of-bounds: monkeys stand on one another, fly around the level, fall and jump to their deaths, use parachutes, spring-shoes, Magna-Helmets, elevators, and most impressive of all: JoeBot Pants. Joe and his friends must cooperate to solve the ever-more-difficult puzzles on their way to the exit, and escape.

Breaking from the standard platform mold, Joe Monkey Escapes is also a full "talkie" - voice acted throughout. Follow the characters as they claw over one another to get out of the lab and, perhaps, save the planet.
