iTunes Match Rollout Continues to Germany, Mexico

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 04:00 PM PST

It appears that Apple is continuing its international rollout of iTunes Match today. Last night we told you that the music matching service’s US-only restriction had been lifted, as users in other countries started reporting access to the feature.

However, a lot of folks have been complaining of issues with signing up for the service, leading some to believe that the iTunes Match launch was premature. But problems or not, the rollout continues with other countries now noting availability…(...)

Rumor: Leaked iPad 3 Microphone Part Points to Possible Redesign

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 03:24 PM PST

If there is one thing with more leaks than a broken sink, it has to be the whole iDevice parts industry. No big iPhone or iPad release goes by without at least one of its various internal parts leaking out of one of Apple’s manufacturing partners.

The rumored iPad 3 – well, rumored but a 99.9% guarantee to be on the cards sooner rather than later – is no different, with photographs of one such part leaking out via Cydia Blog.

The part, reportedly an iPad 3 microphone flex cable, is currently available for purchase from TVC-Mall.com along with two other supposed iPad 3 parts which leaked earlier this year…(...)

The Tablet Apple Tried to Stop

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 02:25 PM PST

There’s still 10 days left until Christmas, but Samsung has already gotten its holiday wish. Earlier this month, an Australian judge overturned an injunction that has kept the company from selling its Galaxy Tab 10.1 in the country.

The ban has been in place since August of this year, and was a major win for Apple in its ongoing patent battle with the Korean manufacturer. The two companies have been in and out of courtrooms around the globe since April…(...)

New iOS 5.0.1 Release Features Makes iPhone 4 Siri Port Legally Feasible

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 01:21 PM PST

You may have noticed that Apple released an updated version of iOS 5.0.1 not too long ago, and with it comes some interesting news regarding its security.

It appears that the new iOS 5.0.1r2 features decrypted ramdisks, which means that it now possible to write a script to download the 5.0.1 and extract the necessary files needed for a Siri port.

Since the download is publicly available from Apple’s server, the idea of a Siri port just got a lot more legal…(...)

Apple Seeds Updates for the Apple TV and iPhone 4S

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 12:36 PM PST

Apple has been on a roll this week with software updates, seeding iOS 5.1 beta 2 to developers and iTunes 10.5.2 to the masses. Now the company has just released 2 more software updates for iOS devices.

The first is for the Apple TV 2, bringing the device to iOS 4.4.4. The update appears to just contain minor improvements, as no new features have been discovered yet. And the second is for the iPhone 4S…(...)

Whale Trail Updated With 32 New Levels, Game Center Features and More

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 12:00 PM PST

Whale Trail, one of the stand-put hits of the App Store right now, has just received its first update, bringing with it some new features as well as some new levels for players to negotiate.

Bringing the version number up to 1.1, Whale Trail’s developers have sought to improve upon the formula that has seen the game receive over 4,000 5-star ratings since its release.

Wisely the ustwo team haven’t meddled with the mechanics, but have chosen to add features to existing game modes, helping the $0.99 game live even longer…(...)

The State of the iOS 5 Untethered Jailbreak

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 11:50 AM PST

Since Apple seeded the first beta of iOS 5 back in June of this year, the jailbreak community has been waiting for an untethered exploit. We’ve been able to jailbreak the firmware since practically day one, but it’s always been a tethered solution.

But that could soon change thanks to iOS hacker pod2g. He’s been working hard on an untethered jailbreak for iOS 5.0.1 and keeping the community updated via Twitter and blog posts. Now it seems he’s just hit a major milestone in his progress…(...)

Vietnamese iPhone Fans set for 4S Release This Week

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 11:00 AM PST

Another country is going to be getting its teeth into the iPhone 4S soon, with the news that Vietnamese carriers will begin offering the newest Apple smartphone as soon as tomorrow, Friday 15th of December.

The move comes as Thanh Nien News confirmed the news that both VinaPhone and Viettel will be offering the iPhone 4S to its customers starting tomorrow, with both locked and unlocked flavors said to be available.

What is a little less clear is the pricing structure for the handsets, with the unsubsidized prices looking decidedly strange, to say the least…(...)

Flashy Status: Be Alerted When Your iPhone’s Flash is On

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 10:15 AM PST

The concept of Flashy Status is a good one: Make it more evident when your flash might fire when snapping a photo with your iPhone’s camera.

It accomplishes this by illuminating the ‘on’ button on the Camera app’s flash settings with green. You can either make it a solid green, or a more visible flashing green.

And while I suppose this is nice to have, there’s one key feature missing from this tweak that keeps it from being really useful in my opinion…(...)

Sega Classic Sonic CD Now in the App Store

Posted: 15 Dec 2011 09:40 AM PST

Before we get any further than the opening sentences of this collection of words we like to call “a blog post,” there is one thing that needs to be made abundantly clear: Sonic is without doubt one of the highlights of the 1990s. Furthermore, Sonic CD is probably the highlight of a series which has since lost its way in a sea of mediocre spin-offs and reboots.

That said, Sonic CD for iOS certainly appears to have what it takes to make us forget about the last 15 years or so of trash that has come out of Sega’s Sonic team, and return us to the speed-filled glee that is directing a blue spiky thing around 2D levels.

Sonic CD coming to iOS is something of a big deal, especially if you were a big fan of the original. We were, and giddy doesn’t really come close to how we felt when hitting that “Buy” button on the App Store. If first impressions are anything to go by, our hopes were not misplaced…(...)
