Analysts Predict Apple Sold 35 Million iPhones Over the Holidays

After a disappointing [define disappointing] third quarter last year, Apple’s CEO Tim Cook made one of the boldest projections in the company’s history: Apple is going to sell 30 million iPhones and hit $37 billion in revenue in Q4 of 2011.

To put these numbers in perspective, Apple only sold 17 million iPhones in Q3 of last year, hitting just $28.3 billion in revenue. So you can see why some folks were taken a back by Cook’s predictions. But hey, anything can happen. Right?(...)

Third-Party Apps Running Fullscreen on the Apple TV

We’ve been keeping you up to date on the developments surrounding third-party iOS apps and the Apple TV. Steven Troughton-Smith has been working with other developers to bring all kinds of iOS apps to the jailbroken Apple TV with the hopes that Apple will open up access to the App Store for its set-top box.

The first app to be shown publicly for his project is Jackoplane’s Frequencies. As you can see, the app is running fullscreen on the Apple TV in the full 720p resolution.(...)

China Unicom Offering Free iPhone 4S Handsets With Contract

Carriers in China were only recently given the go-ahead to start selling the iPhone 4S, but they’ve already figured out how to use the handset to drive business. For example, China Unicom has quite the promotion involving the new device.

Bloomberg is reporting this morning that the world’s third largest cell phone provider is about to launch a campaign that will allow customers to pick up Apple’s latest smartphone for free, as long as they’re ok with a long-term contract…(...)

Rumor: iPad 3 to Arrive in March with iPad 4 Joining in October

There’s no outrunning the rumor-mill, especially when the world is expecting a new iPhone or iPad just around the corner. While we’re barely coming down after the whole iPhone 5 craziness that surrounded the iPhone 4S release, it’s fair to say that we are now well and truly in iPad-silly season.

That said, we never expected to hear something like this report. According to the infamous Digitimes, Apple could be set to bring an iPad 3 to market as soon as March, only to follow that up with the release of the iPad 4 seven months later in October.

Citing component suppliers, Digitimes believes that the two-pronged attack is designed to stave off the impending influx of both new Android tablets and the release of Windows 8 machines later in the year.(...)

With an iPad 3 announcement expected sometime within the next two months, we’ve seen an increase in gossip surrounding the tablet. Will it feature better cameras, a retina display, a faster processor, or all three?

Well it seems that evidence of the latter has just been uncovered in the latest version of iOS. The folks over at 9to5Mac are reporting that they’ve uncovered A6 quad-core processor references in the beta release of iOS 5.1…(...)
