It serves as a reminder sometimes. I used to do it on invoices. I prefer filing things from my inbox rather than searching in the sent folder.

This way, when it comes back, you know it has
made it through the internet. It's a test of your
SMTP server.

If it is something I want to keep on my hard drive and I'm using Yahoo or Gmail or the like I use BCC to send a copy to my other email address.

Re: More Seagate FreeAgent Woes

Interesting…Two years ago, I got a pair of "Free Agents" for myself and workmate.
Both of them caused my iMac to lock up, requiring a mpu reset. She didn't believe me and had the same results on her MacBook Pro. Seagate said that had never happened before and blamed Apple. Apple wanted the "Free Agents" to test, but Good old CostCo had already accepted them back, no questions asked.
We moved on to WD "My Books" that lasted a year before losing every file I ever had. WD graciously exchanged for a refurb that lasted another 10 months. This time they offered another at "Good Customer discount" which would have cost more to more than I could buy one from the local discount store.
I've been rotating three Hitachis in a New Technology VoyagerQ since then. If I lose one, I've got backups. Time Machine occasionally has trouble finding the latest swap, but eventually is happily backing up again.

Since you're rotating backup drives, have you considered using Carbon
Copy Cloner or SuperDuper! instead of TimeMachine? In my experience,
either of those would be much faster, and bootable, to boot.

Both Seagate and WD *external* hard drives have been less than ideal
choices for several years now. I'd avoid either. External Hitachi
drives are even worse.

However, I've found Other World Computing drives, which use internal
Hitachi and Seagate mechanisms, to be excellent. I worry about how
long this will last, as I'm told by a friend who has a data recovery
service that both Seagate and Hitachi have recently diminished in
quality in their internal mechanisms.

For now I'm recommending these external hard drives:

Glyph
http://www.glyphtech.com/
http://www.glyphtech.com/products/

Amazon offers them at a good discount:

If you are looking for a 1TB drive, this one is a good value:
http://is.gd/JUsrWJ

Includes 2 year data recovery warranty!

How do I stop iPhoto sharing photos between users

Posted by: "davidpriceuk" dprice@fireflyuk.net   davidpriceuk

For some reason, my iPhoto library is identical to the one in my son's account. So if I import a photo, it also appears on his iPhoto, and vice versa. I don't know how this happened exactly, but a couple of months ago I noticed my iPhoto library had disappeared from the Pictures folder and in replacing it, I seem to have caused this issue. Do you have any suggestions for stopping it happening?
