Virginia based Hunter Research and Technology today introduces Pro Altimeter 1.0, a new barometric altimeter app for the iPhone 6/6+ and iPad Air 2. Pro Altimeter has a simple interface based on the design of pocket altimeters and wrist altimeters used by explorers and outdoor adventurers. The app offers multiple calibration modes including the import of METAR data from airports within 100 miles (160km) of the user's location anywhere in the world.
Williamsburg, Virginia - Pro Altimeter is the newest app from Hunter Research and Technology, developer of the popular outdoors apps Theodolite, Pro Compass, and Nav Camera. Pro Altimeter uses the high-fidelity barometric pressure sensor in new iOS devices (iPhone 6/6+ and iPad Air 2) to measure and compute altitude.
Pro Altimeter has a simple interface based on the design of pocket altimeters and wrist altimeters used by explorers and outdoor adventurers. Barometric altitude and GPS altitude are displayed in large easy to read numbers, showing units of both feet and meters, and giving realtime accuracy estimates from the hardware. At bottom are calibration and display mode buttons. The display offers a highly-readable daytime mode with black digits on an LCD-green background, and a reversed night mode that is easy on the eyes in dark conditions.
Proper calibration is necessary to measure altitude from barometric pressure (this is why a pilot "dials in" the cockpit altimeter before taking off). Pro Altimeter offers four different methods for calibration, including GPS altitude, manual altitude entry, manual pressure entry, and METAR reports from local airports. With the tap of a button, Pro Altimeter will locate the five closest airports within 100 miles (160km) of the user's location anywhere in the world, and pull in METAR data for calibration.
Once calibrated, Pro Altimeter keeps track of the time since its last calibration. Because weather and local barometric pressure change over time, the app will warn users when 12 hours have elapsed since the last calibration by flashing the "CALIBRATE" button.

Pro Altimeter is available in the Navigation section of the iTunes App Store for $0.99 USD (or equivalent in other countries). The SuperKeys Assistive Keyboard has been created to support users who have difficulty targeting small keys; the unique design of SuperKeys gives users just seven large keys to target instead of more than 30 small ones. There are significant benefits for people with low vision too; all the keys are in the standard qwerty layout, and use a large, accessible font.
Keys are grouped into clusters containing up to seven characters. The user taps a cluster to enlarge it, and then chooses a letter from the cluster. Intelligent word prediction and the ability to create customised keyboard shortcuts speed up the writing process.
