Add functionality to the AssistiveTouch feature with MyAssistive

Posted: 31 Mar 2013 02:33 PM PDT

myassistive 1

Buried deep in the iOS Settings app, at the bottom of the Accessibility window, is a feature called AssistiveTouch. Apple built this tool to make its mobile devices more accessible to users with impaired physical or motor skills.

Enabling the feature adds a tiny icon to your device’s screen that typically, when tapped, opens a menu with shortcuts for a variety of system functions. But with the new MyAssistive jailbreak tweak, you can change that…(...)

Tiny Troopers 2: Special Ops marches onto the App Store

Tiny Troopers 2 3

Tiny Troopers made its mark on the App Store in June of 2012. The battle-heavy app mixed team-up gameplay with shoot-em-up action. The minuscule military men are back for more and Tiny Troopers 2: Special Ops is an excellent follow-up to its predecessor.

When I first started playing Tiny Troopers, the one thing that stood out to me the most was the use of military-related catch phrases. Every time a little soldier takes down an enemy, you'll hear him squeak out a line like, "Hurrah!" or, "Open fire!" It was the thing that drew me in. Those little tough guys are so dang cute.

Tiny Troopers 2 incorporates all of the cuteness of the original while maintaining the manliness you've come to expect of war games. You're not going to be sniping fools a la "Call of Duty," but you can still get your shooter game action fix…(...)

Customize your Lock screen with widgets and more with LockHTML 2

lockhtml 1

Folks who are fans of the LockHTML jailbreak tweak will be happy to hear that version 2 is now available. The tweak, which is developed by Busche, hit Cydia last week with new code, new features and a number of improvements.

For those unfamiliar with LockHTML, it is (was?) a jailbreak utility that allows you to customize the appearance of your Lock screen with a clock-hider and themeable HTML widgets. And version 2.0 adds a host of new options… (...)

I think that whereas BBC radio is available world-wide on the web, BBC TV
is not, so I bet you wouldn't be able to watch TV from where you are.

Audio-hijack has been mentioned, but I will also add that many BBC radio
programmes are available as podcasts shortly after broadcast, so they are
already "recorded"; in an MP3 file. Has your friend checked?

I checked out Audio HiJack Pro site. Will AHP record a pre-determined URL stream at a pre-determined time, even if I am away from my iMac and my browser isn't running, similar to a dvr?

That would be nice if so.

You can set up a schedule to record a URL at a certain time once or repeat at intervals, set tags, automatically convert to a different format and much more. Not sure you can do this with Piezo but you certainly can with AHP which is probably why it is not available on the Mac App Store.

BTW their Airfoil and Fission apps are also well worth a look.

Thanks for your info, John. What would Airfoil and Fission contribute to the audio experience? I saw a package deal w Fission.

Fusion is a fairly straightforward sound editor. I use it to convert vinyl records into MP3s. Can also make ringtones and other stuff. Airfoil is a bit like Airtunes. I have 4 Airport Expresses in different rooms and can send _any_ audio to whatever rooms I wish. With Airtunes you are limited to specific apps.

You tell AHP what app (can be a browser or iTunes) you want to stream
from, and it invokes it if it isn't already running. I usually use
iTunes.

Howdy.

It seems to me that something got lost about how an iPad/iPhone/iPod is
intended to work with iTunes the program on your Macintosh. Your
iDevices/iOS devices should work like a horse and carriage. You need
both.

Hal, start with this Apple KB article on what audio and video file
formats work with which iPod models.

(Archived) - iPod 101: Which Files Work With iPod and iTunes

Last Modified: Feb 18, 2012
Article: TA38530

<http://support.apple.com/kb/ta38530>

Find your model iPod and read about it specifically.

Here's another list of audio and video file formats compatible with
iPod.

Note 1: the Microsoft WMA file format should be compatible already
with iPod and should not need to be converted to MP3 file format.
After all, millions of Microsoft Windows users have iPods.

Note 2: Microsoft file formats may not always be compatible with
different devices. For example, the Microsoft video format WMV has
been changed more than once by Microsoft - on my Sony PS3 and TV some
Microsoft WMV video files will play and some pop up an error message
saying the file format is not supportable.

>>>>>>> I think the issue is that you need to start with "sync" of files from
iTunes to iPod as a device in iTunes and not from iTunes to your iPod as a
device in Finder.

In iTunes, create a playlist, or 2 or 3 playlists, give them names for
type of music for the playlist, for example, you could name one
playlist Bach Organ Music. Then in iTunes click Music at top of the
source (library) column. Find your songs (whether WMA or MP3 or MPEG
Audio, and drag the song(s) from the overall music list to the playlist
you created.

Then connect your iPod by cable to your Mac, iTunes should launch
automatically, if it doesn't launch it yourself manually, and then
click your iPod under the Devices section in the left hand sources
column.

While your iPod is connected and visible as a Device in iTunes you need
to make some choices about how things happen when you connect and/or
sync iPod and iTunes.

In the Summary tab section, see the Options section and pick the
choices you want.

Then for music pick the Music tab and click Sync Music. I can't sync
my entire music library of more than 25,000 songs so I have Selected
playlists, artists, albums, and genres turned on.

In the Music tab, look at the Playlists section. Put a check in the
playlists you want to sync.

Note the Sync button at bottom right. When done with your choices and
setup click the Sync button.

These playlists from iTunes will, after the sync is done, appear in
your Music app on your iPod.

You can set up many playlists but using the Music tab in iTunes you can
pick, for example, 5 playlists and sync those, but next time your could
pick 6 different playlists to sync.

I listen to a lot of audio books on my iPhone.

I have recently been having issues with iTunes 11, so check the basics on these two files.

Can they be played in iTunes, if not then it can not find them or they are corrupt. If it can not play them it can not sync them to your iPod.

Are their Get Info correct in iTunes. Get Info > Options > Media Kind > should be Audiobook or Spoken Word to find it under Books on the iPod. Otherwise it will hide them in your millions of tunes of Music, and since it was converted it may not have an Artist and that makes it harder to find.

Howdy.

Yes, there is a relationship. The Get Info routine tends to function
better as an occasional use thing or perhaps a bit better for one and
twos and not as much for a bunch of files.

However, from time-to-time, just clean out the entire set of
relationships and start fresh. It really isn't difficult or that time
consuming particularly when there are many files involved or when some
files may have come from other people over the months or years.
