Facebook starts rolling out Photo Sync for everyone

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 02:32 PM PST

We told you a couple of weeks ago that Facebook had begun rolling out its new Photo Sync feature which, predictably, lets the Facebook app automatically upload your photos, ready for viewing on the Facebook website or inside any of the company’s apps. Turns out Facebook was rolling it out to a select few, testing the feature with plans to roll it out to everyone at a later date. That date is today.

Announcing the move on its blog, Facebook today said that its Photo Sync feature will be available to all, with all the magic already built right into the existing Facebook app for iOS. The social giant needs to activate your account on their end, and voila, you’ve got a new feature.

Pretty nifty indeed…(...)

Apple reportedly looking to move mobile chip business to Intel

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 12:22 PM PST

As crazy as things have been getting between Apple and Samsung in their ongoing patent war, you knew it was only a matter of time before the fight spilled outside of the court room. We continue to hear rumors and reports that Apple is looking to move away from the Korean company as a component manufacturer — it’s already doing this with displays, and could soon start doing it with processors…(...)

BTIG Research: iTunes 11 feature could hint at future streaming service

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 11:06 AM PST

As far back as I can remember, iTunes has always given users access to web radio stations. It comes pre-installed with hundreds of them, from practically every genre, from all around the world.

I’ve never really used the feature, and frankly I’m surprised that it hasn’t been eliminated yet. But according to BTIG Research, its presence in iTunes 11 could be the sign of something bigger…(...)

Apple actually tests LTE networks before giving 4G on its devices a go-ahead

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 09:35 AM PST

When it comes to the question of an LTE network being compatible with the iPhone, Apple isn’t ready to take a carrier’s word. Although they’ve put up with clean desktops and higher-than-traditional licensing fees, wireless providers are now publicly irked that the Silicon Valley smartphone maker reportedly runs it’s own tests before iPhones can operate on a 4G network.

A Swiss carrier has told a news site that Apple will issue a software update allowing iPhones to operate on an LTE network only after testing the carrier’s live system. Recently, Swisscom announced the opening of its 4G network for customers – except for iPhone owners…(...)

Atari releases official Pong game for iOS

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 09:00 AM PST

Atari’s Pong video game is arguably one of the most recognizable titles of all time. It first debuted as an arcade game back in 1972, and was later ported to home consoles. And since then, it’s been emulated and copied countless times.

Well yesterday, in light of the game’s 40-year anniversary, Atari released a new version of the timeless classic for iOS called Pong World. And with characters like Chompers and Sir Bouncelot, this isn’t your average 2D tennis match…(...)

Apple’s Technologies boss cashes in shares

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 08:56 AM PST

Bob Mansfield, Apple’s un-retired SVP of Technologies, is another high-ranked executive to cash in shares of AAPL stock after an “insanely insane” sell-off that saw a quarter of Apple’s market cap wiped off. Like other executives, Mansfield likely figured the move makes financial sense ahead of a rumored “fiscal cliff”.

According to a U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission filing, Mansfield, a long-time Apple veteran, unloaded 35,000 shares. At $582.21 a share, the transaction earned him $20,377,507.50. He still holds 29,548 shares and will get another 150,000 shares in June 2013 and March 2016 provided he stays with Apple.

Though Mansfield wanted to retire, Apple’s boss has managed to convince him to stick around for two more years. If Cook gave me a $2 million a month paycheck as a compensation for an advisement position, I’d also un-retire in a heartbeat….(...)

iTunes Gift Cards now available in custom $15-$500 denominations

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 08:26 AM PST

This is interesting. If a new report is anything to go by, Apple has added an interesting option for retailers carrying physical iTunes Gift Cards. As you know, iTunes Gift Cards are normally offered in $15, 25, $50 or $100 denominations. The new cards provide for custom denominations ranging from $15 to $500.

These give customers a much-needed flexibility to load their iTunes account with a custom credit of their choosing rather than having to choose between Apple’s four preloaded amounts. Apparently one supermarket chain and at least one retailer are rolling these out as we speak…(...)

Android apps revenue now growing quicker than iOS apps revenue

Posted: 30 Nov 2012 05:00 AM PST

Owners of iPhones and iPads have historically pointed to the App Store’s plethora of quality produce as the reason for the platform’s dominance. It’s always been the reason many have chosen iOS devices over those powered by Android, but things may be beginning to shift in a whole new direction.

While app developers have always suggested that getting Android users to buy apps is an exercise in futility, a new report claims that things are changing, with Android developers now finding a much improved landscape, as revenue from Android devices grows quicker than that of the App Store.

And not just by a little bit, either…(...)
