K-startup is a start-up accelerator in Korea that has partnered with Google as a non-profit organization that focuses on incubating app developers and start-ups.
The Let's Fold team was awarded the opportunity to travel to the U.S. for two weeks for a comprehensive training program organized by Qualcomm. Developers will have access to a valuable network of accomplished entrepreneurs and executives. This year's program will take place around Silicon Valley and also in New York. Winners were selected based on the application's global appeal, originality and functionality.
The game itself offers users the experience of the classic origami art, reimagined as colorful puzzles. Players are challenged to match the given shape within a specific amount of folds. Gamers have the ability to create custom puzzles for friends to solve, share tips for completing levels and compete for high scores.
"Creating simple, yet original games is becoming more difficult in a crowded marketplace full of talented developers," said Chung Sangwha the CEO. "This application is intuitive and visually appealing enough for beginners, yet challenging enough for advanced gamers. It strikes a balance that is characteristic of some of the most addicting games on the market."
New chapters with different pictures and themes are released periodically as updates, offering players a continuously expanding library of challenging puzzles. The Let's Fold team was awarded the opportunity to travel to the U.S. for two weeks for a comprehensive training program organized by Qualcomm. Developers will have access to a valuable network of accomplished entrepreneurs and executives. This year's program will take place around Silicon Valley and also in New York. Winners were selected based on the application's global appeal, originality and functionality.
The game itself offers users the experience of the classic origami art, reimagined as colorful puzzles. Players are challenged to match the given shape within a specific amount of folds. Gamers have the ability to create custom puzzles for friends to solve, share tips for completing levels and compete for high scores.
"Creating simple, yet original games is becoming more difficult in a crowded marketplace full of talented developers," said Chung Sangwha the CEO. "This application is intuitive and visually appealing enough for beginners, yet challenging enough for advanced gamers. It strikes a balance that is characteristic of some of the most addicting games on the market."
New chapters with different pictures and themes are released periodically as updates, offering players a continuously expanding library of challenging puzzles. Let's Fold is available for free on the App Store and Google Play, yet players have the option to receive hints to particularly challenging aspects of the game for small in-app purchases. The app will soon allow users to print characters and test their real world origami skills.
Let's Fold joins the ranks of previous winners and participants that have benefitted from the overseas program. According to the National Internet Development Agency of Korea, a total of 11 start-ups from the last two years were able to use the networks made available by the program to secure foreign investments that have contributed to the growth of start-ups and expansion.

Veggoagogo: New App Release Gives Confidence to the Vegetarian Traveller - Published on 11/17/14

The app addresses many of the needs that the travelling vegetarian faces on a daily basis, from locating a restaurant, choosing suitable items from the menu and more. The user simply chooses a question from Veggoagogo, then selects the appropriate language and taps the translate button.
Helsinki, Finland - Veggoagogo aims to provide the modern vegetarian traveller with an app that lends confidence to a situation that has filled vegetarians with dread for decades; ordering vegetarian food on the road. As well as defining what a vegetarian is, Veggoagogo addresses many of the needs that the travelling vegetarian faces on a daily basis, from locating a restaurant that serves vegetarian fare, to choosing suitable items from the menu, down to thanking the chef, waiter, concierge, market-stall holder or friendly local.
Veggoagogo is intuitive and easy to use. The user simply chooses a question from those offered, then selects from one of 50 languages available before tapping the translate button and being presented with their translation. The all important translation screen text has been optimised to be displayed at a distance. It can be flicked between night and day modes, making the text easy to read in all lighting conditions.
Veggoagogo enlisted the drawing talents of illustrator, Cat MacInnnes to create a range of animal icons, that add to the usability of the app, whilst maintaining its simplicity.
Users can tap the animal icons atop the translation screen and be presented with full screen versions which can be swiped and used as a visual backup to the translated message. Users are encouraged to spice up their Veggoagogo experience to match the flavour of their current destination with one of the many preset colour themes on offer.
Paul Dodson, founder of 2Camels Publishing had this to say, "Often when travelling it's hard to get across exactly what vegetarianism is. In many countries it's a loosely defined concept where vegetarian dishes may still include fish or seafood. With Veggoagogo we aimed to do two things: one, define what a vegetarian will and won't eat and two, offer a range of questions that travelling vegetarians face on a daily basis. In version 1.0 of Veggoagogo, we do this in 50 languages. Veggoagogo has been designed with simplicity and usability in mind. The interface is uncluttered and hopefully, aesthetically pleasing. All of our translations have been professionally completed by native language speakers".

Word game meets language learning in the new iOS app Mind the Gap - Published on 11/18/14

The German App label science-to-touch announced the release of Mind The Gap, a new word game and English language learning app. Mind The Gap focuses on a holistic approach to language. It challenges its users to reconstruct word fragments in authentic English texts. The iOS app crosses the borders of word game and language learning tool. Mind the Gap offers crossword puzzle like texts that, besides being a challenge on its own, help its user to gradually improve his or her language skills.
Munich, Germany - "Mind the Gap" is a new language learning app created by the German label science-to-touch. The app intentionally links two genres: word game and language learning app. On the one hand it is a puzzle type word game similar to popular word guessing games. The main difference: Missing words are to be guessed from their authentic context. The app offers hints, and can be played without time pressure or in an arcade mode.
On the other hand the app is designed to improve the users comprehension ability and the competence to construct popular and authentic english language patterns. The app is based on a collection of over 500 hand-selected texts coming from different areas such as science, sports, art, music, literature and many more. The texts cover trivia and interesting facts from many different areas of human culture, life and science. The main task is to fill in missing parts of words and to reconstruct the original text by this. The percentage of destroyed words varies from 30% in the entry levels to 90% in advanced levels. Mind the Gap hereby enforces an idiomatic language use as it tackles almost all potential trouble zones of language learning from grammar to vocabulary.
"The app is a father-daughter co-production that originated from the desire for training material for so called cloze-tests, which are frequently used to test and train the language abilities of students. During development of 'Mind the Gap' we made the experience that finding the right insertions for missing words sometimes requires Sherlock Holmes like reconstruction abilities and can become a really entertaining task" says Professor Richter-Gebert, one of the two developers of the iOS app. As the author of several award winning software projects designed for the general public he has become an expert in combining authentic content with a fun, relaxing or challenging user experience. In 2012 Professor Richter-Gebert launched the creative geometry drawing app "iOrnament", which is rated 5 stars on the App Store in 14 countries.

"Turning a serious test scenario into a fun game was the greatest challenge. We included fun elements as for example a Tetris like arcade mode in which you must reconstruct idioms, proverbs and common sayings under time pressure. You must try to survive as long as you can and crack new high scores. Working on up to seven sentences at the same time really challenges your multitasking skills" comments Angela Gebert, second year English student and co-producer of the app.
Mind the Gap combines a fresh and motivating learning environment with an effective, casual learning method for every day. Each of the topics is decorated with hand drawn sketches, that create an atmospheric entry to the specific topic. The Today extension shows all due actions with a quick glance at the notification center.
Sharing extension:
Starting from Apps like Safari, the sharing extension pre-fills the notes with the current url and puts the cursor in the action title so the user can focus on what todo with the url.
