When members submit their drawings they could win amazing prizes including a Copic Ciao Marker 72A set.
This year we are allowing members to join the Christmas Contest in a variety of ways. There are 3 ways to enter the contest with every drawing created. If members register their drawings in all 3 ways the chances of winning the Copic Ciao 72A marker kit increase by 3x!

Common Core Curriculum for The Prisoner of Carrot Castle App Announced - Published on 11/25/13

Helping teachers find creative material to teach Common Core State Standards (CCSS) in their classrooms, Purple Carrot Books has launched a set of CCSS aligned reading strategies for grades K-3 for The Prisoner of Carrot Castle picture book app. The Prisoner of Carrot Castle has enjoyed over 40,000 downloads from the Apple App Store and offers discounts to schools. Cameron Park, California - Curriculum for The Prisoner of Carrot Castle was written by certified teacher Cyndie Sebourn of Apps With Curriculum. Ms Sebourn saw what was coming and started an educational technology service to develop Common Core-aligned course work for book app developers. Sebourn, a retired Arkansas educator, founded Apps With Curriculum to make educational apps better suited for classroom use. Her own book app with accompanying CCSS aligned curriculum, Smarty Britches Nouns, teaches kids about nouns through a Southern-themed story with engaging interactions that reinforce the learning.
The Prisoner of Carrot Castle has enjoyed over 40,000 downloads from the Apple App Store and offers discounts to schools. After downloading the app, teachers can connect their iPad to a classroom SMART Board(R) and read the book with all the interaction while kids watch and enjoy. Teachers can use the reading strategies offered in the CCSS aligned curriculum as a course of study that is cross curricular in subject areas and involves technology with education, an important aspect of CCSS.
With the roll out of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) there are lots of questions and issues. Most educators support the standards, but are concerned about the lack of training and proper implementation. Publishers and others are asking how they can help teachers and administrators implement the standards.

Portland, Oregon - Pretendasaurus, a Portland-based children's app studio, today launches Dr. PetPlay and Dr. PetPlay Free exclusively for the iPad. The first in a series of Pretend Play Apps, Dr. PetPlay is COPPA compliant, iOS 6 and 7 ready and available on the App Store.
Dr. PetPlay is not a game. It has no rules or levels and the flow is open-ended. The amount of players is only limited by the roles kid's dream up, which makes it easy for families and lots of friends to play or for a child's imagination and all of their animals. Using children's own stuffed animals, toys, or even drawings with the app means there are no toys with sensors or codes needed. Cooperative role playing can cultivate empathy as children take turns being a doctor or animal caregiver.

AppDaddy Technologies Releases Tactical NAV HD For iPad - Published on 11/25/13

Tactical NAV HD, a battle-tested app originally created for military personnel, is now available for the iPad. Tactical NAV HD assists military service members and first responders in mapping, plotting, photographing waypoints, building and drawing overlays, and sharing information with other users on the battlefield and back at home. This app has even been used to call for artillery and mortar strikes against insurgent forces during combat.
Fort Bragg, North Carolina - Tactical NAV HD, a battle-tested app originally created for military personnel, is now available for the iPad. The app assists military service members and first responders in mapping, plotting, photographing waypoints, building and drawing overlays, and sharing information with other users on the battlefield and back at home. The app has even been used to call for artillery and mortar fire against insurgent forces during combat.
"We are extremely proud to announce Tactical NAV HD for the iPad," said Jonathan J. Springer, app creator and active-duty U.S. Army soldier.
Springer, who is currently stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., originally created the app during a combat deployment with the 101st Airborne Division while they were deployed to the Pech Valley in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. It gained worldwide attention after a free-lance journalist witnessed him using Tactical NAV to call for artillery fire during an enemy attack on base. The app was successfully used to neutralize the insurgent threat.
"What we've done with Tactical NAV HD is create something that has never been done before on the iPad. Once you use it, you'll see what we're doing here. There's no other application on the App Store that does what TACNAV HD does," said Springer.
Some of the features that Tactical NAV HD offers include live map annotations, drawing and distance tools, actual U.S. military graphics and symbols for plotting units and formations, photo and video saving tools, MMS and Facebook sharing features, and an extensive list of other features.
Alan Corbett, lead engineer for Tactical NAV HD, really enjoyed working on this project. "Once again, we push Apple's hardware to it's limits. We have over 500 hours and 50,000 lines of code in Tactical NAV HD, compiled for both 32 and 64-bit iPads alike. Wait until you see the drawing and distance functions. We think you're going to love what we've created for you ... and we're just getting started," said Corbett in an interview.
Springer reiterated Corbett's comments and promised users would experience a military grade application never before seen on the iPad. "After spending more than 24 months in Iraq and 12 months in Afghanistan, I was fortunate enough to be able to use some of the best equipment available to conduct combat operations in support of my country. Fort Bragg, North Carolina - Tactical NAV HD, a battle-tested app originally created for military personnel, is now available for the iPad. The app assists military service members and first responders in mapping, plotting, photographing waypoints, building and drawing overlays, and sharing information with other users on the battlefield and back at home. The app has even been used to call for artillery and mortar fire against insurgent forces during combat.
"We are extremely proud to announce Tactical NAV HD for the iPad," said Jonathan J. Springer, app creator and active-duty U.S. Army soldier.
Springer, who is currently stationed at Fort Bragg, N.C., originally created the app during a combat deployment with the 101st Airborne Division while they were deployed to the Pech Valley in Kunar Province, Afghanistan. It gained worldwide attention after a free-lance journalist witnessed him using Tactical NAV to call for artillery fire during an enemy attack on base. The app was successfully used to neutralize the insurgent threat.
"What we've done with Tactical NAV HD is create something that has never been done before on the iPad. Once you use it, you'll see what we're doing here. There's no other application on the App Store that does what TACNAV HD does," said Springer.
Some of the features that Tactical NAV HD offers include live map annotations, drawing and distance tools, actual U.S. military graphics and symbols for plotting units and formations, photo and video saving tools, MMS and Facebook sharing features, and an extensive list of other features.
Alan Corbett, lead engineer for Tactical NAV HD, really enjoyed working on this project. "Once again, we push Apple's hardware to it's limits. We have over 500 hours and 50,000 lines of code in Tactical NAV HD, compiled for both 32 and 64-bit iPads alike. Wait until you see the drawing and distance functions. We think you're going to love what we've created for you ... and we're just getting started," said Corbett in an interview.

Brilliantly combining action, strategy and multiplayer combat, and optimized for the iPad's Retina display, MEG: RVO transforms gamers into contractors and puts them to work for a sinister corporate entity called "Slate Kinetic", which is training Remote Vehicle Operators (RVO) to explore new worlds.
Contractors must join campaigns and skilfully equip their combat vehicle - known as a "rig" - with weapons and armor, deploy various structures to assist in defense, make the best use of terrain allies, and battle against other players and A.I.-controlled enemies in order to gain control of strategic locations within the app's simulated environment.
With experience, talent and a little luck, contractors will earn Slate Kinetic's currency known as "SKN" (pronounced "skin"), which they can use to purchase new rigs, weapons, armor and defensive systems in the Slate Marketplace. Plus, contractors can leverage their combat experience to unlock more powerful equipment, and use their robotic MEG Unit to retrieve salvaged equipment from defeated foes.
And now in MEG: RVO's latest version, contractors can use the new Aiming Reticule (a HUD feature that provides a better idea of their current weapon's aiming trajectory and range), and access some extra firepower against nearby enemies by destroying one of the new Explosive Reactors at the correct moment. They can also access the Facility Map (a new indoor simulation zone), and keep an eye out for SKI Turrets (large sentry turrets that guard specific areas of the simulation zone).
Other major improvements and enhancements include:
* New client/server architecture

The Drum Mode makes it easy to lay down a drum loop, while the Chord Mode allows for precise note placements and lengths. A set of editing tools transform a simple patttern to a series of very advanced MIDI clips; Duplicate, reverse, shrink, expand, delete or mute any notes on the fly.
The app now offers a Browser which enables access to Lives Library, including all of Lives Devices, Instruments, Samples, Drums & Sounds. Load a device on a track or a sample on a drum pad using a simple drag & drop at any time.
To ease control of very big sets, touchAble 2 introduces an overview that allows quick access to any position in the set. Live 9 Users can now use the Clips Module Module to manage their Live Set - Create or delete Tracks, Scenes, Clips and even stop buttons - without ever touching your Computer. The transport bar provides a set of advanced Live session tools and controls.
Users can now play their favorite instrument banks, samples and VSTI with the Isomorphic Keyboard, the Piano Keyboard or the Drumpad, three different interfaces, that can all send MIDI Notes with positional velocity, as well as pitchweel and aftertouch messages to Live and other applications running on the computer. With In-Key engaged, only notes that are included in the specified key are assigned to the keyboards, allowing for fantastic chord progressions and beautiful melodies even in the hands of a novice. The Devices Module provides quick control in Live situations. The Combo mode gathers the devices that are going to be used frequently within a live session. Life Inventory guides the user through six different steps, each with its own activity grouping, for making a Life Inventory:

Throughout the process, users are encouraged to enter data into their Inventory, be completely honest about themselves and take advantage of encouragement and support from others.
The Inventory begins by making one simple list, which defines four fixed Categories in which to file away what are broadly categorized as Incidents:

* Institutions and Organizations
* Principles, Ideals and Beliefs
* Sources of Anxiety and Excitement
Each of the four Categories will contain hierarchical sub-categories. From there, users outline Entities and then individual Incidents related each Entity.
Step-by-step, users complete the Causes and Effects of each Incident. Next, users determine the part they played in each Incident listed. It is not unusual to create hundreds of Incident forms, each devoted to a single incident. The app includes the ability to create and save all written lists and forms with password protection. Having completed all their Incident forms, users can refer to these forms to help list all their Fears. The app includes the following eight pre-defined fears, to which the user is free to add more if desired:
* Other people's opinions
* Not getting what I want
* Not having control of the situation
* Financial insecurity
* Abandonment
* Physical harm
* Failure
* Success
The fifth step is examining each Fear category and answering the following key questions:
* Why did I have this fear?
* When did I first notice this fear in my life?
* How did I hold on to this fear?
* What did this fear make me do?
* What chain of circumstances did this fear set in motion in my life?
* How did I react to this fear?
* What decision did this fear cause me to make?
* How did self-reliance fail me?
* What should I have done instead?
And the sixth and final step is examining Sex Relations, where users answer all the following questions regarding each of their sexual relationships:
* How was I selfish?
* Where was I dishonest?
* Where was I inconsiderate?
* Who was hurt in this situation?
* Did I arouse jealousy, suspicion, or bitterness?
* Where was I at fault?
* What should I have done instead?
* What will I do in the future?
* Did I pray or have spiritual conversations with him/her?
* Did I pray for him/her?
* Did I enjoy his/her company?
* Did we bring each other closer to God?
