Rich, are you saying that a BT headset can work with the phone for calls but NOT work for playing music? This is what is happening. I'm not aware of a toggle or selection with Apple's Music app that selects the output, the way the Phone app does.

I just thought, "if it works for the phone, it should work for music"...

Bluetooth headsets must say A2DT in the specs for it to work with music.
Most will not play music or other audio. They work for the phone calls only.

BT has 2 different set of specifications. Old one is for phone voice only.
The new one called A2DP is for music.
Not all BT headsets support A2DP.

There is a toggle. And it looks like a rectangle with a triangle inside. To the right of Forward button.

Should say A2DP. Sorry for the typo.

Thanks, all.

I did see that toggle, Archie, but as I have learned not all BT headsets that connect for phoning also support music. So, the Plantronics I was trying didn't show up in the Airplay select list.

I also have a Plantronics 855 which does indeed work with music (A2DP compliant) and with that paired, it appears in the Music Airplay select option.

All is working! Happy wife, happy life! Many thanks to the great support you all offered!

HAD to include that GREAT tag line...!

I used the Motorola SR9 HD headset. it is an around the head thing, but mainly I use it at home or long stays at places. On a bicycle, I think blocking off both ears would be deleterious to my safety :-)

Tried the plantronics, it has a KICK-Butt mic and BT for phone use, but the music sounded a bit tinny. Could not argue much though as I got the 855's on Amazon for like $34.99

i have the Motorola S10, and yes, I'd like to know how they fare.
The only draw back I see with the S10, the weight of the plastic at the back pulls down and ends up resting almost on my neck, and gives a twisting feeling in my ears. Like my ears are supporting the S10.

Also, the Jabra look goo also for relaxing in a recliner, or bed. My since its hard, is not so comfortable behind my neck when a pillow is behind.

Music Cataloging

Hi is anyone using an app to catalogue all your music and if so which one?

I'm thinking of someone who has an extensive music collection that would not
fit on their IOS device but allows them to carry their music database in an
app on their IOS Device.

I would simply export the song list from iTunes. You can then read it with
various apps.

In iTunes, there's a way to make a PDF of your iTunes music library and then you can read it in any number of apps on your iPad or iPhone. I like iBook for reading PDF's because I can highlight and make notes in them.

iPhone 4 problem

Posted by: "Laura Velez" lgvelez@yahoo.com   lgvelez

Thu Jan 12, 2012 5:41 am (PST)

Yesterday afternoon my iPhone 4 lost contact with its cell tower (searching) I was trying to make a call and could not get a dial tone. This happened once before and after several hours it fixed itself.

Now, this morning I have the red circle badge on my Phone app icon, and I cannot get a dial tone. I went to Apple Support and followed their instructions, most of which I had done, but I did pop my sim card out and reinserted it. That got rid of the searching message, but I still cannot get a dial tone and my phone is trying to make a phone call but is hung up. Makes me think that the cell tower problem still exists.

Anybody got any suggestions, please?

Google Wallet

I'm using Starbucks' app on my iPhone 4s, and like it's convenience and ease of use. No more Starbucks cards bulking up my wallet. The techie in me also likes the idea of using the special reader (RFQ? - my memory is getting bad at my age).

In my local Peet's, there's a little sign at the register saying they take "Google Wallet" but it does not appear to be an app available for the iPhone. When I searched (using Google, natch) for it, apparently it's only available for an android phone. Does anyone on this list have any information about why or when such an app might be available for the iPhone?

How about a similar app for any debit or credit card? I'd be very concerned about security if I lost my iPhone, but that can be handled I presume with a shut off or scrambler app to allow me to shut off the iPhone or disable it from afar.

Maybe there's a way to get rid of my ugly leather wallet entirely? Sigh, but what about those courtrooms that demand 2 cards?

I think your refering to NFC. Near Field Communications is a protocol thats
very slowly taking on in the US.
Google Wallet is a big supporter of NFC and its poping up in newer android
devices. I dont believe iPhones have the necessary hardware in them.

Also on a side note, they are working on a working version for older phones
that will be built into and get power from Micro SD cards.
So if you have a phone with a Micro SD card slot, in the future you will be
able to buy a memory card with the NFC equipment built in.

Pretty much NCF is the hardware and google wallet is the software. Your
device will be prompted for a validation of the amount and you put in a pin
code on your device to authorize the transaction.

They had some links on YouTube showing a test of it a while back where
Google Wallet people paid for items at a supermarket or something.

Interesting (to me) discovery.

I use SIRI a lot because I'm a long haul truck driver and SIRI allows me to do everything hands free.

Just recently I noticed that SIRI will display "13°" when converting text to speech in a txt or email. BUT I can't do that when typing since the iPhone keyboard has no degrees symbol. At least I can't find one.

Hold down the zero (0) button and a degree symbol (°) appears.
