At 72 yrs of age, I find the trackpad the most intuitive interface. Maybe when I get an iPhone with Siri I may find that more so.

>Sighhh.
That is incorrect. It should be one or the other,
either control-X or ^x, with maybe control
abbreviated as something such as ctrl. To use
both is like what you often incorrectly see in
stores where they offer items for 25 cents as
.25¢. It is either $.25 or 25¢. I've never,
though, had the guts to demand four for a penny
as advertised.
>My Mac keyboard doesn't have a Carat on the same key as says Command.
>If it's all that important, leave it on, eh?
That would be incorrect. A 200mg weight on the
command key would be too heavy. What you mean is
caret, not carat. Furthermore, it would be wrong
in another way. The caret is for the control key,
not the command key. However, I have never seen a
keyboard that does have that symbol on the
control key. The caret prefix is used in
shorthand when writing it out. This very long
predates Apple computers or, actually, ANY
personal computers. Control characters were used
in the old teletype machines to (are you sitting
down?) CONTROL things. ^M is a carriage return,
^H a back space, etc.
The Mac has four different modifier keys. Each
has a symbol when you are writing about it. The
propeller means the command key, an up-arrow the
shift key, the caret the control key and the
symbol you give later the option key.
>I mean, my Command key still has the 'propeller", but the Option key has
>shed the oddball symbol < > that used to be on that key.
>
>No consistency...
Furthermore, the newest Apple keyboards have shed
the open apple on the command key, a holdover
from the Apple ][, which had that key and the
option key was a closed Apple. There was quite a
ruckus back when the IIgs was released and its
keyboard had "option" rather than the closed
Apple. In other words, renaming keys is nothing
new.

Years ago, when I came to depend upon a Gateway notebook, I did use it and didn't think twice of it. Now, with all of the extra gestures available, I have a hard time with it. Initially, my Magic Trackpad had a gesture that operated nicely, tap twice on the top portion of the pad and the window below was 'glued' to the mouse cursor until one tapped again. I have never been able to figure out how to configure that again. Dragging is a nuisance to me now.

I guess, like other means, I could pick it up again. As I mentioned in my prior post, when I lost the most helpful gesture, not knowing how to get it back, my trackpad and I parted company.

Howdy.
The caret symbol is not on the control key. It's on the number 6 key.
The caret is a symbol that represents the Control key.
Using both the ^ and the word "Control" is probably just an old habit
and also probably done by someone wanting to make this clearer.
Shouldn't be a problem.

Howdy.
You are referring to a symbol used in writing characters in some
languages.
This is not the same as the caret symbol for computer use. The two
characters are even somewhat differently shaped.
The circumflex should be available if you press Shift Option i.
If you will open your Keyboard Viewer, you will see the caret symbol on
the Control key.

Yeah, the "Cpntrol" is. Also, I meant "caret" not "carat". Sighhh.

Shift-Option-i gives me this symbol: Ì
Which is not at all like the ^ above the 6.
Also, my Keyboard Viewer will not open for some reason. Sighhh.

Amazingly enough, the only place I can get 3rd party carts for my HP is on eBay, from an oriental distributor. They work well, however, the printer complains of counterfeit cartridges and warns of a voided warrantee after using them.

as a result of Randy's recommendations, your recommendation, and what i read on the site for Canon i9900 printer inks,
i have ordered a multiset for what i would have paid for 4-5 Canon cartridges.
Thanks, everyone!

Yes, I was helping a friend this weekend with her new iMac and suddenly we could not see the contents several key folders, such as the Documents folder. To me, this is obviously a Lion problem. This is her first experience with Lion, and it wasn't very nice.

On a personal note, I downloaded iDatabase twice last month.
Each time it did weird things to my iMac. Permanent spinningbeachball, blocked finder, etc. Each time the only thing I could do was a forced power off. In the end I deleted it and forgot about databases....
I am sure other people have downloaded this successfully. I just make this comment for other people to be aware that there "may" be problems with downloading this program.

Open Office/NeoOffice/LibreOffice includes a database app. I haven't used
it myself but I assume it does what most people need from a simple db app.

Certainly this is how Mail.app 4.5 behaves.
> Perhaps someone can offer a solution?

You can add a link to text by a 'ctrl-click' on the text and selecting 'Link... -> Add Link'. Clicking that brings up a dialog into which you can type the URL. Provided Mail is set to 'Mail->Preferences->Composing- >Rich Text' the link will be added to the selected text. The selected text appears to the recipient in the usual HTML form (i.e. usually underlined in blue) and is clickable in the usual HTML way.
It is also possible to add links in this way to 'signatures' (Mail->Preferences->Signatures) , and a single 'signature' can consist of a whole list of (clickable) URLs. Adding such a 'signature' to an email should do pretty much what you wanted to do with the PDF URL list.
The drawbacks to this scheme are firstly that it only works if Mail is set to compose in RTF, and secondly that the text only version of the email does not include the link. Hence any recipients who can only read pure text emails will miss out.
