App Tamer 2.0.3 refines its power saving capabilities - Published on 06/13/14

Some Mac applications, especially web browsers, continue running tasks or animations even when they're supposed to be idle in the background. This can consume valuable processing power and reduce battery life. App Tamer's unique AutoStop capability automatically slows down or pauses these applications when you switch away from them, and then restarts them when you click back to them. This frees your CPU and reduces power consumption.

App Tamer 2.0.3 offers these improvements:
* When a process is limited to a certain amount of CPU usage, that limit is now displayed next to the process' name in App Tamer's window.
* An issue that could cause App Tamer to incorrectly limit the CPU usage of an application in certain situations has been fixed.
* Fixed a problem where App Tamer could cause applications to hang when restarting or shutting down your Mac.
* Fixed a rare bug that could cause App Tamer to crash when some OS X services return an error.

Players must explore the level in search of the boss that protects the area and then defeat him in battle. There is also a special Arena to further challenge a player's tactical and strategy skills.

At the start of the game, players must select who will join them in battle. There is a choice of heroes, all with different skills and abilities that can be upgraded or enhanced. There are three kinds of hero classes: defender, aggressor, and engineer. The player chooses one of each class to create a mighty trio of heroes.

Defenderia features a variety of monsters that have to be defeated. Each monster stands on a different colored platform, which indicates whether the hero will receive health (green platform), energy (blue platform), or experience (yellow platform) after the battle. If the platform also displays diamonds, the monster is an elite monster and more difficult to defeat. A grey platform indicates that the monster is normal and does not provide any additional benefits once defeated.

All monster units have either a melee attack type or range attack type. The player must use strategy to determine which monster units to attack and in what order so their heroes remain alive. Players can use combo attacks to defeat more than one monster and earn rage points. If the hero is alive and not in chains, the player can also shuffle the mighty trio and change the targeted monster's platform color.

Additionally, each hero has a special skill which demands a certain amount of energy to expend in battle. If the hero has very little energy, the player can opt to engage with a simple attack. The simple attack is weaker but does not require energy to execute. Between fights, opening empty cells can restore a hero's health. After each battle, all heroes will gain experience and earn wealth. Defenderia provides a shop where the player can purchase various weapons, upgrades, and consumables for in-battle use. In the forge, a hero's equipment can also be improved.

To complete a level in Defenderia, the boss must be defeated. But first, he must be tracked down within the map. Players explore each cell of the map to hunt down the boss. When selected, some cells will reward bonuses while others will offer choices, such as an opportunity to do battle or upgrade weapons. Once all cells are cleared, the player can receive a reward, such as additional coins. Each level is also awarded up to 3 stars. To acquire 3 stars, all 3 heroes must still be alive.

Sinusoid releases Sonocord 1.2 - an audio sonogram app for birders - Published on 06/13/14

Sonocord is a tool for birders and birdwatchers that can record short audio tracks, edit them, and display the sonogram of the audio. Large numbers of calls and songs can be stored on an iOS device and viewed as a sonogram immediately or reviewed at a later time. Sonograms are used for identifying birds by their calls and song. Version 1.2 includes many user interface improvements and minor bug fixes.

Recently, experts such as Tom Stephenson have published detailed information on interpretation of bird songs and calls using audio sonograms as a graphical representation of the calls.

Sonocord was written with such analysis in mind. Users can use sonocord in the field to record and then view an audio sonogram of a bird seconds after the recording has been made. Large numbers of calls and songs can be stored on an iOS device and viewed as a sonogram immediately or reviewed at a later time.

Sonocord Features:
* Produce an audio sonogram of tracks up to 10 seconds in length
* Zoom and pan the sonogram to inspect detail
* Play the track within the sonogram view (NEW)
* Adjust the vertical span for low frequency calls (NEW)
* Edit a track unlimited number of times (NEW)
* Filters adjust background noise to improve contrast of sonogram
* Record new tracks up to 10 seconds long, including a 2 second pre-record arm feature
* Import short audio tracks to be displayed as a sonogram
* Storage of multiple tracks for sonogram display, playing and editing
* Simple edit of both recorded and imported audio tracks by trimming tracks
* Play both recorded and imported audio tracks
* A geographic location is recorded where available on a device, and a map view will display the location of the recording within the app
* The sonograms produced are of high resolution
* Audio frequency range of 0-20kHz
* Sonograms can be archived as images including all data available for the recording

Sonogram:
When the sonogram view is selected a sonogram is displayed of the last selected track, or the most recent if no selection has been made. The time in seconds is shown on the X axis, and the frequency is shown on the Y axis. The full duration of the track initially spans the width of the device screen. The track may be zoomed using fingers, and then panned over the exanded view of the sonogram.

The track can be played while in the sonogram view to see the patterns corresponding to each part of the call or song.

Filters can be applied to the sonogram image to control desired contrast settings.

The vertical scale can be set to 10kHz instead of the normal 20kHz for calls with low frequencies.

The sonogram produced can be saved to the Photos app. The captured image includes details such as track name, duration, and geographic location of the recording.

Recording:
A pre-record feature ensures that important sounds are not missed. Firstly the Arm button is pressed to start the pre-record. When a sound of interest is heard, the user has 2 seconds to press the Record button to start the recording. The Stop button is pressed at the desired time, or the recording is stopped automatically at the 10 seconds time.

The recording screen features a level meter for simple monitoring of recording levels.

Tracks are timestamped, and the geographic location of the recording is noted where this is available on the device. If the device location services provided a location when the recording was made (or when imported), selecting this view will display a map with a pin dropped on the recorded location. The map can be displayed in Map, Satellite or Hybrid modes.

There is also an Import button which allows existing audio tracks to be imported using iTunes File Sharing.

Review:
All tracks, whether recorded or imported are stored on the device and can be selected in this view as a waveform. Once selected the track can be immediately played in full, or a selection can be made and played in part, or trimmed to the desired selected length.

Other Uses:
With a full audio frequency response range, and a 10 second sonogram time, sonocord is also useful for many other areas of investigation such as noise analysis, music analysis, and analysis of calls of animals other than birds.

In Crazy Opposites, players are asked for the opposite of various events and things. What is the opposite of scrambled eggs? What is the opposite of a monkey? What is the opposite of a priest? They then have the challenge of working out what the most common answers might be.

There are no right or wrong answers in Crazy Opposites. Players must match the most common answers to jump to the next stepping stone - to achieve their ultimate mission of crossing to the opposite river bank. Players try not to run out of lives before getting across!

Version 1.7 offers 10 free clues with the first download. After that, clues are available for selected questions as an iAP. Sample Question: What is the opposite of toast? Sample Clue: Undo.

As well as being a brain teaser from the left drawer, Crazy Opposites is one of the most sociable apps ever. There are as many varied answers to - what is the opposite of a priest? - as there are colors in a rainbow. And a discussion over the merits of each answer may lead to much 'friendly fire' debate. The trick with CO is that players are being asked a logical question without a definitive logical answer. Arguments over which answers are more logical may abound. Players become creative in their efforts to be logical.

Haypi announces the start of World Cup Frenzy Activity - Published on 06/13/14

Shanghai, China - Haypi's World Cup Frenzy has started. The 2014 Brazilian World Cup has rolled out the red carpet, and the Haypi fans are invited to participate in an exciting activity. The rules of this Activity are really simple. Players just have to post an entry below the activity threads on Haypi Forums. The entry should include the player's favorite football team, player and a short comment about them. If that reply happens to be the first posted right at or after the Haypi's Lucky Moments, then that player can win a prize! Haypi's Lucky Moments is a pre-set timeline for this activity. Players who have posted at the time point which is the closest to the pre-set timeline can win a prize accordingly.

IoT Design Shop deploys Bluetooth Low Energy Indoor Location System - Published on 06/13/14

IoT Design Shop, a division of Finger Food Studios, is pleased to report successful deployment of their Bluetooth Low Energy Indoor Location System at the Vancouver Mini Maker Faire this past weekend. The system, which consists of Bluetooth Low Energy Beacons with iBeacon Technology, a mobile app & cloud services, enabled event attendees to locate places of interest, exhibitors and other event attendees. The system is commercially available and IoT Design Shop provides an SDK for 3rd party use.

Vancouver, Canada - IoT Design Shop, a division of Finger Food Studios, is pleased to report the successful deployment of their state-of-the-art Bluetooth Low Energy Indoor Location System at the Vancouver Mini Maker Faire this past weekend. The system, which consists of Bluetooth Low Energy Beacons with iBeacon Technology, a mobile app and cloud services, enabled event attendees to locate places of interest, exhibitors and other event attendees in real time. While event navigation and information was the focus of this deployment, there are number of applications for the technology in the retail, healthcare, security, entertainment, hospitality and transportation industries which include:

* Analyzing the traffic patterns of shoppers
* Tracking patient locations
* Wayfinding at large campuses, airports and malls
* Creating location-based games such as indoor scavenger hunts

The system operates by using mobile phones running an enabled app to measure the signal strength of beacons deployed around a venue. Proprietary algorithms are applied to take this information and range the phone's location within the enabled space. Information such as beacon IDs and location, venue maps and information about places of interest are managed in the system's cloud-based back end. A full SDK is available to enable 3rd parties to easily integrate the system with their own apps.

Trent Shumay, CTO of IoT Design Shop, described this deployment of their indoor location system as "by far the largest and most challenging to date, both in the physical size of the event space and the number of people who downloaded our ConnectionMaker app." He also noted that "accurate indoor location is a difficult problem to solve. We were able to locate users with similar accuracy to what is possible outdoors with GPS and are very happy with how our system performed."

IoT Design Shop's Bluetooth Low Energy Indoor Location System is available for deployment and the SDK is also on limited release to development partners at this time.
