"I knew Turbo Cross Racing was a winner as soon as we started testing it over the holiday," says CJ de Heer, the game's lead developer. "Seeing family members of all ages fighting over devices so they could play the game again was a clear sign that we did something right."
Turbo Cross Racing is a completely reimagined, 3D take on racing games like Surf City's own Pod Racer. It sports impressive graphics and speed, seven different racing pods to choose from, fun alien soundtracks, and immersive designs that bring gamers into five alien worlds at full throttle.
"Almost anyone can play and have a great time. The 3D speed effects are out of this world," jokes De Heer.
The game requires no instructions to play. Competitors race at high speeds and tilt their device to turn, or tilt-more-turn-more for sharp turns. Tapping the screen launches the racer into turbo boost for unbelievable velocity.
But the simplicity of the controls belies how challenging the game really is. Even the slightest bump into any mountainside, competitor, or sudden obstacle sends players back to the starting line.
"It's simple to learn, and challenging to beat. That's what makes it so addictive."
As players collect coins through the alien landscapes, they can trade them in for upgraded racing pods, additional armor, and essential packs of turbo boost. Players also compete to rank on Game Center and Google Play Games leaderboards to show off a well-earned high score.
