BBC iPlayer for iPhone Launches in the UK With 3G Support and Live TV

UK-based fans of the BBC can now get their fix of Dr. Who while out and about with the newly-updated BBC iPlayer app. The update adds support for the iPhone and iPod touch.

The new release offers some interesting features, including 3G streaming and live TV access to go with the expected on-demand video streaming.(...)

Steve Jobs Biography Ranked as Best-Seller Across Multiple Formats

Last week we reported that Walter Isaacson’s recently-released Steve Jobs biography had reached a major milestone on Amazon. In less than two months on the market, the book has become the online retailer’s best-selling title of 2011.

After making a few adjustments, Amazon re-released its list of top 10 books today. The company figured that, since Kindle e-books outsell hard covers, they should be included in the counting. Where does the Steve Jobs biography rank now?(...)

Apple Releases iTunes 10.5.2 With iTunes Match Fixes

Apple released iTunes 10.5.1 alongside its long-awaited iTunes Match service last month. And even though the company gave itself an extra two weeks to work on the product, a lot of users have complained that iTunes Match is still rather buggy.

Apple is obviously aware of the issue and has just released an update to the service by way of iTunes 10.5.2. The new software claims that it contains fixes for both iTunes Match and a known CD-related audio distortion problem.(...)

You have got to love Apple’s sense of humor. The folks in Cupertino have left a nice easter egg in the latest iOS 5.1 beta. 9to5Mac’s Mark Gurman went looking inside the 5.1 beta 2′s .plist files and came across something that made us chuckle.

Apple knows how the blogosphere works, and the rumor mill typically predicts future product names based off internal references in iOS beta SDKs. It looks like we all just hit the jackpot.(...)

A little over a week ago, court documents surfaced regarding the ongoing patent war between Apple and Samsung. The two companies have been locked in courtroom battles all over the world since Apple filed its trademark infringement suit earlier this year.

Apple’s argument has been that Samsung’s products look extremely similar to its own devices, particularly its tablets. This was especially evident in the leaked court documents that included tips from Apple on how Samsung should’ve made its Galaxy Tab.(...)

Apple Pulls Fake ID-Creation App Due to Complaints

Reports are coming in this morning that Apple has just removed Drivers License from the App Store. The software allowed iPhone and iPod touch users to easily create digital fake IDs by inserting photos into authentic-looking state drivers licenses.

Drivers License has been in the App Store for over two years. According to the Coalition for a Secure Driver’s License, Apple has decided to pull the software in response to a recent letter it has received from US Senator Bob Casey.(...)

Apple has released iOS 5.1 beta 2 to developers. The update comes exactly two weeks after the company seeded the original version of the iOS 5.1 beta.
