blue white pink iPhone 5c side by side

When Apple announced that the pricing for the plastic iPhone 5c would only come in $100 less than its flagship 5s, the entire tech world let out a harmonious gasp. The handset, which we had all known about for months prior, was supposed to retail in the $300 range.

A lot of folks predicted that the higher pricing would lead to the device’s downfall. And it may have. Apple didn’t announce any sales numbers after the 5c’s opening weekend, and today, a new report is out claiming that the company is cutting production in half…(...)

FitBit Force (image 002)

Fitbit’s health and fitness trackers are well regarded by fans of wearables. The San Francisco startup has managed to win over the active types with its Flex wristband, Zip and Fitbit One activity trackers and today they’re adding another gadget to its lineup: the Force fitness tracker.

Slap it on your wrist and the Force will dutifully record the steps taken, distance traveled, stairs climbed, calories burned and active minutes. This iMessage prank got me going for a while

Posted: 10 Oct 2013 11:09 AM PDT

Prank iMessage

Earlier this week, Jeff played a really good prank on me. As I received a message from him, I opened up the Messages application and couldn’t see anything but a typing indicator. So I waited patiently for Jeff to finish typing, figuring that Messages were having yet some other issues, which could have explained why I received an alert, yet didn’t see any message.

Long story short, Jeff got me pretty good, and here is how you can get your friends too…(...)

Posted: 10 Oct 2013 10:21 AM PDT

How to block callers 1Do you remember that time you went out with your friends and you gave that guy/girl your phone number, but when you woke up the next day you realized that you weren't as into that person as you were when you were looking at them through your beer goggles?

I'll bet you wish you could block that person from calling or texting you. Especially if that person is kind of nuts and won't leave you alone. Apple has finally given us a way to stop unwanted calls by making it possible to block callers in iOS 7 and we are going to show you how to enable it…(...)

‘SideSettings’ lets you open settings from any app

Posted: 10 Oct 2013 08:36 AM PDT

SideSettings

SideSettings is a recently released tweak that lets you open up the settings for any app as a sidebar. Instead of having to exit the app, go to the Settings app, and access the app's preferences, SideSettings immediately takes you to the settings of whatever app you have open using a simple swipe gesture.

Of course, all apps don't have preferences to configure. In cases such as these, SideSettings will open up the stock Settings app instead.

I really enjoy SideSettings based on its originality alone. It's a must see tweak that you have to witness on video to appreciate its ingenuity. Have a look at our full video walkthrough inside.(...)

I’m a regular Flipboard users – have been since its inception in December 2010 – and am glad to see this unique social news reader service thriving. By any measure, that’s a significant milestone.

Any service that can claim nearly a hundred million users is clearly doing something right and deserves our attention. Turns out Flipboard is doing a lot of things right and I’ve included the most interesting factoids after the break…(...)

T-Mobile launches 2G data roaming in 100+ countries at no extra charge

Posted: 10 Oct 2013 05:01 AM PDT

T-Mobile (global data romain teaser 001)

Adamant to change the way the world uses their phones, Deutsche Telekom-owned U.S. wireless carrier, T-Mobile USA, on Thursday announced that it will make available cellular data service in over a hundred countries around the world, at no extra charge. It’s no secret the industry’s been charging huge fees for data roaming. “What’s most surprising is that no one’s called them out,” T-Mobile’s boss remarked unapologetically.

Indeed, the telco’s deal represents a significant departure from the exorbitant roaming fees wireless carriers typically impose and is a positive step toward providing global data coverage on fair and reasonable terms. The only drawback: only T-Mobile’s slow 2G data service is included in the promotion…(...)

Posted: 10 Oct 2013 05:00 AM PDT

How to edit mailboxes 3Apple offered up a few new Mail app features in iOS 6, but it surely wasn't much. One addition was the VIP inbox, another was the ability to attach pictures and videos to messages from within the app. That was about the extent of the new features in iOS 6.
