Enhance Safari’s tab button with this jailbreak tweak

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 06:09 PM PDT

Clota Featured

Sometimes it’s hard to get a firm grasp on the naming conventions used for releases on the Cydia store, and this jailbreak tweak — entitled Clota – is the latest such one. I’m definitely not sure what’s behind the name, but the tweak works well enough.

Clota allows users to add two new tap based gestures to the new tab button found in the Safari browser. A double tap on the new tab button will close all open tabs sans the current tab. A triple tap, on the other hand, will close all tabs. Check inside for our video walkthrough showcasing how it works.(...)

How to speed up animations in iOS 7 and make your device feel blazing fast

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 03:13 PM PDT

iOS 7 (Settings, Reduce Motion 003)

Apparently, iOS parallax effect and animations can literally make people sick. If that doesn’t happen to you, don’t discount this as just a phony report. This is real for some people, although I have yet to meet any of them. Apple listened to the complaints from users who were experiencing various degrees of motion sickness while using iOS 7 and drastically increased the motion reduction feature that was already present before iOS 7.0.3.

As it turns out, not only this feature will reduce the motion of the user interface, but it will also make your iOS device feel like it’s blazing fast…(...)

Indigo Lake review: this game may scare you to death

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 03:10 PM PDT

Indigo Lake 1When I was in my early 20s, I played Resident Evil for the first time. That game scared the bajeezes out of me. I had to play it with the lights on and the volume down. That was the first time a video game put the fright in me.

Indigo Lake had the same effect on me when I recently played it for the first time. The eerie soundtrack and first-person point of view adds a creepy element that sends shivers down your spine as you look for clues to solving the mystery of the unexplained deaths surrounding the lake…(...)

Is iCloud Keychain available in my country?

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 12:37 PM PDT

iCloud Keychain (image 001)

With Tuesday’s free release of OS X Mavericks, Apple users can now opt to have their Safari web passwords securely synchronized across their iOS devices and Macs through the power of iCloud. The useful feature dubbed iCloud Keychain made a brief appearance in iOS 7 betas before being pulled from iOS 7 Gold Master, only to re-surface in iOS 7.0.3. What you probably don’t know is that iCloud Keychain isn’t necessarily supported everywhere so Apple’s published a handy list detailing iCloud Keychain availability by country…(...)

Apple’s Russia push slowed by pricey iPhones

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 08:04 AM PDT

Apple iPhone 5s 5c launch video (image 001)

Although Apple today launched the iPhone in an additional 35 global markets (with more to come next Friday), including Russia, its flagship iPhone 5s remains too expensive for all but the most wealthiest. The iPhone 5c, costing just $99 in subsidized markets such as the U.S., can cost nearly $800 in Russia, unsubsidized.

Apple’s goal of competing globally is being hampered by pricing centered on carrier subsidies. In countries such as Russia, India and elsewhere where subsidies are not allowed, the cost of an iPhone can equal a month’s salary – or more. As a result, Samsung’s cheaper Android phones control most smartphone sales…(...)

Online Apple Store now offering $20 OS X Lion and Mountain Lion redemption codes

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 07:38 AM PDT

OS X Mountain Lion

Following the free OS X Mavericks release, Apple has removed the $19.99 Mountain Lion purchase from the Mac App Store. This has brought headache to owners of older Macs who were looking to upgrade their operating system to OS X Lion or Mountain Lion.

Apple typically keeps only the most current version of OS X on the Mac App Store. As a result, folks who want to purchase a copy of Lion, for example, are required to give Apple a phone call to get either a DVD or a content code via email which lets them download the installer through the Mac App Store.

The company has now made the process easier by selling the redemption codes through its online store…(...)

Totems review: conquer your enemy and steal his land

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 05:00 AM PDT

Totem 3Land grab style board games are very exciting in real life. Stealing from your friends can be pretty fun. However, transitioning that type of excitement and emotion to digital form does not always produce the same results.

Totems: Game of Conquest is a land grab board game designed specifically for iOS. It has all of the rules and outcomes of a physical board game, but you don't have to be in the same room to play the game. Thanks to online multiplayer mode, you can even steal from your friend, but you won't risk having a glass of water thrown at you…(...)

Booqpad combines an iPad mini case and notepad into one

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 04:00 AM PDT

Booqpad mini splash

I like being professional. Sure, being a blogger doesn’t mean my job screams business suit, white dress shirt, and dark blue tie. After all, I’m not rolling down the hallways of an IBM clone factory like my father did before me. But, I love him anyway. Being professional does not require the suit, but it can easily be defined by accessories. No, not a pocket square. I mean your gadget accessories.

For my iPhone 5s, when I am trying to look the part, I opt for the Kouros leather sleeve, because it is simple, streamlined, black, and refined. When it comes to my iPad mini, I also prefer those same characteristics. But, often, the mini is more of my work horse, which should get even better with an A7 processor. I may grab my phone in a meeting to check the calendar or a quick notification about the Virginia Tech Hokies, but iPad is the true go-to for more complex tasks. Keeping things at my fingers, the Booqpad mini by Booq even has a spot for handwritten notes…(...)

New Remote icon in iTunes may hint at impending iOS 7 update

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 01:56 AM PDT

new remote app

Although Apple posted a number of iOS 7-flavored app updates this week, there’s still one that I’m anxiously awaiting: the Remote app. I use it every day to control my Apple TV, and it’s very much in need of a UI overhaul.

Fortunately, it looks like I won’t have to wait much longer. A redesigned icon for the Remote app has been discovered in iTunes, suggesting that Apple may be putting the finishing touches on an iOS 7 update for the utility…(...)

Research shows second generation iPad still selling extremely well

Posted: 25 Oct 2013 01:09 AM PDT

iPad lineup

During our iPad event roundtable on this week’s Let’s Talk Jailbreak, we noted how surprised we were to see that Apple is going to continue selling the iPad 2. Why does the company insist on keeping the two year-old tablet around?

The answer, according to marketing research firm Consumer Intelligence Research Partners, is because the device is still selling extremely well. Their data shows that the second-gen iPad made up 22% of Apple’s tablet sales this quarter…(...)
