Re: Hotspot

last month i posted about my experience using the pro-rated verizon mobile
hot spot feature ($20/2gb per month). back in september i wrote :
<<< i acitvated the hotspot (verizon) just before we left town on august
12th, a bit more than half-way thru our billing cycle (our cycle started on
the 7/23) and i turned the feature off on august 28, just after the start of
the next billing cycle. my current bill shows a charge of $7.10 for 11-days
of service (8/12-8/22) during that bill cycle plus another $20 charge for
the next month (8/23-9/22, payment in advance). when i get my bill for the
8/23-9/22 cycle i should see a refund of approximately $16.12 representing
6-days usage (8/23-8/28) at the same pro-rated charge for the previous cycle
($0.645 per day). that's assuming i didn't consume, on a pro-rated scale,
more than 17-days worth of data. if i did then there will be a charge for
the overage. >>>
just got my september bill and it does reflect a $16.77 credit for the
unused portion of the mobile hotspot during the billing cycle and no data
overage charges. so my cost for the 17-days that the hotspot was activated
came to $10.33 or about $0.607 per day. but looking more closely i see the
bill shows the $16.77 refund represents 26-days of the 30-day billing cycle
(8/23-9/22). that means the hotspot was active for 4-days in that cycle.
the august bill shows that the hotspot was active for 11-days in that cycle
for a total of 15-days, not the 17 i calculated. not sure how to account
for the difference unless VZW doesn't count the turn on and turn off days.
using a 15-day activation period my daily charge was $0.688 per day which is
a lot closer to the $0.666 that i get by dividing $20 by 30-days. in any
case it's close enough...a difference without a distinction.
i'm a happy guy!
