For months, analysts and pundits have speculated that Apple will be unveiling two new iPhone models this year. One would be the usual model refresh, and the other would be a low-end smartphone to help make inroads with the prepaid market.

When you are talking about slim, modern day tablets, the iPad was the first to market. Before Apple’s slate, the “tablet” category was filled with clunky devices that ran desktop software and carried price tags over $1,000.

Obviously, being first has paid off for the company in dividends. I don’t think anyone would argue that the iPad has dominated the tablet market over the last two years, and it doesn’t seem to be slowing down anytime soon…(...)

This morning, Apple finally announced the event where the company will unveil the new iPhone 5. The event will be held in Cupertino, on Apple’s campus, on October 4th at 10am. And according to the invite, the company will only announce one iPhone.

What we’re not sure yet is the launch date of the next iPhone. There have been countless rumors within the last few weeks, but nothing really credible. But this morning, The Next Web got word from a reliable source on the official launch date of the iPhone 5…(...)

Skype has updated its iPhone and iPad apps in the App Store with several new changes and features. Bluetooth headset support has finally been added to Skype for iOS. A “bugfix for security vulnerability” has also been added, making us think that the privacy vulnerability from earlier has been patched.

Anti-shake technology has also been introduced to help stabilize users’ video streams during a call. Skype has also added in-app advertisements for those who haven’t purchased Skype credit…(...)

Did Apple Just Sneakily Confirm That We’ll Only See One New iPhone?

Today Apple sent out invites for its October 4th media event where the curtain will be lifted on all things iPhone.

Interestingly, the image that Apple used on the invites may provide a clue as to what we can see come October 4th at 10:00am PST.

The image contains the Apple 1 Infinite Loop campus in the Maps app (where the event will be held), the correct date (Calendar app), the correct time (Clock app), and one more little interesting tidbit…(...)
