Of the 6.3 million smartphones Verizon sold last quarter, 3.2 million of them were iPhones. This means it sold more Apple-branded handsets than it did all other smartphones combined. So the carrier must really be pushing these things, right?

Well as it turns out, that doesn’t seem to be the case. CNET’s Chris Matyszczyk recently went to his local Verizon store to investigate a rumor that Big Red reps were actually purposely diverting iPhone sales. And judging by the account, they are…(...)

Two weeks ago, the Dev Team released RedSn0w 0.9.10b8 with the ability to backup your iPhone’s activation tickets. The tickets were a crucial part of the popular SAM unlock method.

FTC to fine Google millions of dollars over Safari breach

Posted: 05 May 2012 01:27 PM PDT

Last month, the Federal Trade Commission was said to be investigating claims that Google was illegally bypassing privacy settings in Safari. The Mountain View company was caught using a loophole in the browser to allow it to track users’ online activities without their consent.

If confirmed, the FTC was expected to slap Google with a hefty fine. And it certainly looks like that will hold true, as Bloomberg is out with a new report claiming that the Trade Commission is about to slap the company with reparations worth millions of dollars…(...)

Sprint boss gets a $3.25 million pay cut because of high iPhone subsidy

Posted: 05 May 2012 11:44 AM PDT

According to both The Wall Street Journal and Reuters, Sprint CEO Dan Hesse has agreed to a salary reduction that will see his paycheck reduce by a whopping $3.25 million in this year.

Shareholders weren’t too happy that a formula Sprint uses to calculate its CEO's compensation fails to take into account high iPhone subsidy.

Posted: 05 May 2012 11:00 AM PDT

Spotlight search is very useful when you actually need to use it, but how many times do you find yourself needing to do so?

If you’re anything like me, you can probably count on one hand how many times you’ve used Spotlight over the past few months.

Perhaps this recently released jailbreak tweak will coerce you into using Spotlight a bit more often? It’s called SpotDict, and it allows you to look up words in iOS’ built in dictionary directly from the Spotlight search page…(...)

The best skins for your iPhone, iPad, and other devices

Posted: 05 May 2012 09:20 AM PDT

I rarely get excited about accessories because I like to keep my devices simple. I’ve always thought that Apple has done a great job at designing beautiful products, so why would I want to stick my iPhone in a case or apply a skin to it, right?

There is a company out there that has slowly been changing what I think of skins though: iCarbons. I had never heard of them, but because they are also JailbreakCon sponsors, we started talking, and they offered to send me a few of their skins to check out. I’ve been in love ever since…(...)

iPad text editing concept comes to life thanks to this jailbreak tweak

Posted: 04 May 2012 08:36 PM PDT

When Cody posted about Daniel Hooper's iPad keyboard demo, we had no idea that it would be as popular as it has turned out to be. Thousands of retweets later, the public has spoken out against how terrible the iPad’s editing situation is. I think John Gruber summed it up best when he noted that the iPad was a great for typing, but poor for editing.

The iPad keyboard demo video was created with the hopes that Apple would respond and implement something similar in the upcoming version of iOS. There’s even instructions included on the video for submitting a bug report to Apple.

Well, Apple may not listen, but someone else did. Indeed, the jailbreak community has responded in a big way. Introducing SwipeSelection — a usable realization of the original iPad concept video…(...)
