The fact is somebody can go through your email, read all your text messages, and look at your personal photos without your permission or knowledge. App & Joy of Tel Aviv - Israel announced in May 2012 a new app - "Who Touched my Phone" that helps you to determine whether somebody snooped through your phone whenever it was left unattended. The user arms the application and locks the screen.

Tel Aviv, Israel - Unlike other applications that try to prevent intruders from accessing the phone's content, "Who Touched my Phone" doesn't block any content but captures the snooping event without the intruder's knowledge; Moreover, Tal Shumski the CTO of App & Joy says "we believe that you cannot protect all of your phone's information completely, all of the time; Therefore, we find it more important to secretly capture and inform you whenever there was an attempt to snoop through your phone".

How does it work you wonder? The user arms the application and locks the screen. When the phone is unlocked, the intruder will see an innocent screen presenting YouTube's best videos, and in the meantime they are captured without their knowledge with multiple pictures, the time of action, and location. Afterwards, when the user opens the application, and disarms the phone using a unique gesture, a screen with all captured intruders will be presented. For each intruder the user will see when and where it occurred, and the pictures of the intruder. Taping on one of the intruders pictures will present a screen with the intruder's photo gallery (up to 5 pictures) and information about the event.

Zanther, Inc., creators of the immensely popular iPad application, Tapose, announced the second of four winners of a contest that aims to find the most creative usage of the app's primary feature, Journals. Tapose received several other creative submissions for how users are using the Journal feature. Some other entries included a presentation on differences between the movie Hugo and the book that inspired it, a medical student's elaborate notes, and a tutorial for another iPad app.

Seattle, Washington - The second week's winner of the $100 iTunes gift card is Samantha Tucker, who has been using Tapose to manage the fundraising efforts for her goal to study in Germany next year. Sam has been using the sticky notes feature to log donations and keep records of payments, drawing graphs and charts with the sketching function, and uploading pictures and videos of other important information for her trip. "Sam did and excellent job of formatting her Tapose Journal for increased trip organization. It's just a matter of time before all the money is raised for school tuition & fees in the near future," said Tapose co-founder Ricky Drake.

Tapose received several other creative submissions for how users are using the Journal feature. Some other entries included a presentation on differences between the movie Hugo and the book that inspired it, a medical student's elaborate notes, and a tutorial for another iPad app.

Tapose continues to encourage users to showcase their creativity, as well as share different ways to utilize Tapose's unique features. The second winner will be selected on Friday, May 25th and the contest is open until Friday, May 25th.

Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School selected GroupLogic's ExtremeZ-IP to solve a problem that was derailing the high importance of technology for students and teachers. The school is the oldest continuously-operating, non-sectarian school in the United States. To better meet the enterprise-level requirements for efficiently maintaining the school's network, Columbia Prep's technology department replaced its Apple Xserve system with Windows-based servers in July 2011. Prior to making the server change and introducing ExtremeZ-IP, students and staff using the school's 450 Mac desktops and laptops had faced ongoing server crashes; after the change, server crashes dramatically reduced, and performance issues were resolved.

"Previously, we were limited to 50 to 75 concurrent users per server and performance would slow as more users connected to the system," says Adam Gerson, co-director of technology for Columbia Grammar and Preparatory School. "ExtremeZ-IP can handle significantly more users connected to the network at once, with faster connections for each user. It's not only reliable; it works better for both our Mac and Windows users than our previous system."

Integrating a Windows-based server into a largely-Mac-based user environment can pose a number of challenges, including problems accessing, sharing, storing, editing and printing files. By allowing Mac users to connect to the network through Apple File Protocol (AFP), which is preferred for a smoother Mac user experience, ExtremeZ-IP effectively circumvents typical Mac-to-Windows problems, and maintains the same seamless, efficient user experience both Mac and Windows users have come to expect.

SR-Naming helps to rebuild speech-language-cognitive skills. It was designed to aid adult clients (16 years and older) and may be used with or without the supervision of a Speech-Language Pathologist (SLP) to build and reinforce receptive and expressive language skills.

An easy-to use-touch screen guides users through real-life photographs involving common objects accompanied by voice and visual prompts.

There are three distinct levels; beginner, intermediate and advanced for both expressive and receptive tasks. Levels are distinguished by degree of difficulty (e.g. cues provided for expressive language task - multiple-choice, phonemic cue, open ended response; or number of items presented in field of view (2, 3 or 4) for receptive language task.

The application comes loaded with approximately 55 photo stimuli and additional stimuli plan to be added over time at no additional cost to the user.
The app is created by Speech Remedy (SR) founders Joanna Boyer and Terri Tarnoff Snyder, both certified practicing speech-language pathologists and developers of the company's widely used comprehensive, adult-focused cognitive therapy products.

"The SR-Naming app grew from the success of the printed card version and the demand for technology-based interactive learning tools," says, Joanna Boyer. "A recent SR field study suggested that 70% of respondents are currently using advanced technology solutions for delivering speech-language therapy and 60% plan to use advanced technology within the next year. The app is modeled from Speech Remedy's Confrontational Naming Photo Card Deck, which is one of eight photo decks currently available from the company. These photo card decks promote skills related to sustained attention, visual scanning, word retrieval, vocabulary and word relationships, articulation, sequential thought, topic maintenance, problem identification, critical thinking and safety awareness.

The smartly designed app consists of six folders: Inventory (all the owner's items), Properties (items organized by location), Policies (track and manage insurance policies), Reports (generate and print reports and item lists), Camera (take a photo of an inventory item), and Settings (choose currencies, backgrounds, passcodes, etc.) Of course, the heart of the app is the Inventory function, which is easy to compile, browse, and search.

Users begin by taking a photo of each item to be inventoried. Each can include a title, date of purchase, category, value, serial number, etc. Items are saved straight into the Inventory, stored securely in an industrial-strength database. Once completed, the Inventory is beautifully presented on the iPad, and users can choose to view it by photos organized into stacks, or in list mode showing a thumbnail, item details, and the total value of the items. The Inventory can be sorted by Item, Property (location), or user-defined Group (owned by which member of the family, etc.).

This breakthrough app - the first extensively enhanced ebook app of its genre - is based on the true story of Edson C. Hendricks, the genius who invented the design for the Internet. The story was written by Leanne Jones, a former primary school teacher who is now a private detective. The app was developed by Agio Studios of Victoria, BC, Canada. For the true geek, this app contains a treasure trove of historical materials, including "Evolution of a Virtual Machine Subsystem", the 1979 IBM Systems Journal article by Hendricks and Tim Hartmann chronicling the technical development of VNET in the early 1970s into a world-wide network almost a decade before the Internet was launched. There are dozens of Hendricks' anecdotes about creating VNET and meetings with Vint Cerf and other scientists, plus trip reports, internal memos and documents detailing IBM's bungled opportunity to control worldwide computer communications. There is even a 160k log of pre-Internet emails between scientists debating computer standards.

Joining IBM's Cambridge Scientific Center shortly after graduating from MIT, Edson Hendricks developed RSCS (later known as VNET), fundamental software that powered the world's largest network (or network of networks) prior to the Internet and which directly influenced both Internet development and user acceptance of networking between independently managed organizations. Within IBM, the resulting network later became known as VNET and grew to 4000 nodes. In the academic community, VNET formed the base for BITNET which extended to 500 organizations and 3,000 nodes. VNET was also the networking design underpinning EARN in Europe, NETNORTH in Canada, and USENET/UUNET at numerous universities.

Edson Hendricks now lives in San Diego, California. Since his retirement from computer programming, he has contributed to revised scientific understanding of puzzles such as the origins of Earth's water and where do tektites come from (his papers on these topics are included in Cool to be Clever). He is available for interviews.
