Verizon iPhone 4s are dual, gsm + cdma. It is possible for week areas
Verizon has tied up with some gsm operator.

Again, my iPhone is from AT&T and I have no experience with the Verizon iPhone.
SIM cards are for GSM use and so you would see E, 3G or 4G. If you were on the Verizon network you would be on the CDMA network and see either 3G or ˚ (a degree symbol), for EV-DO or 1xRTT, respectively.
Why do you have a SIM card in a Verizon iPhone? Who is your cellular provider and who's net work is the SIM card for?

AUSSIE NEEDS TO USE IPHONE IN THE USA

Hello,
Need some advice please.
I am an Australian and soon will be travelling overseas to the USA. I plan on my taking my iPhone 4S with me as I would like to check in on Facebook and stuff like that. I wont be using it for calls as I will rely on Facetime, Skype and emails.
So my question is how do I go about getting set up to use my iPhone in the States? Where would I get the SIM card etc?

If your phone is unlocked then just pick ATT/T Mobile sim and your would be
fine. You can check for the packages on the net. If the phone is locked
then talk to your operator to unlock it.

I assume your 4S is GSM only. If you are willing, you can just use WiFi.
But if you want cellular data, then I would check with your carrier and see if they have a partnership with one here. Last I heard, AT&T will not allow iPhones on their pay-as-you-go network, which is very limited outside of large cities and highway paths. T-mobile would be another I would check with. US Cellular seems to have a large area of coverage, but I don't know how easy they are to find physically to pick up a SIM card.
Unfortunately, we are pretty backwards here in the US with SIM cards and cell phones. You can find SIM cards in many convenience stores, but the clerks don't know squat about them, so do your research before you get here. And I have not seen any plans for data only.
As we say in Oregon, "Keep Oregon Green, come and spend money!" It used to also include, "and then leave", but I'll drop that part.

I don't know why Sprint isn't advertising they have the iPhone with a true unlimited service. I'm still looking into it and thinking about switching to Sprint with the next iPhone. Is Sprint not that good a service for the iPhone? No one seems to talk about it.

It depends on your area. I have had Sprint with an EVO and iPhone and
had no problems. Their coverage is very spotty in some areas.

I had dropped Verizon Wireless a while ago, in favor of CIngular. Now
Cingular is AT&T and they may be next to go. I use home-wireless for data,
mostly. If AT&T decides to drop rollover minutes then I am definitely
hopping carriers.

I haven't heard anything bad about Sprint in my area. It's not one of those companies really talked about. It's always AT&T and VZ.

Re: IPhone and ITunes

An update for all of you very helpful friends. I found an article, sorry I don't have the link but will get it and post later... that said iTunes and the other Apple products must be deleted in a specific order. Then restart the computer and look at the hard drive under programs to make sure that all Apple products did unintall. I did find one product that did not uninstall. I deleted that product and then installed itunes and everything worked perfectly! No more cd/optical issues and the iPhone was easily recognized!
Thanks to all who responded to my desperate plea. I've worked on this issue almost everynight for the past 2 weeks!!!

Trouble downloading podcasts directly to my iPhone 4
Posted by: "sniffermanmi" sniffermanmi@yahoo.com sniffermanmi

Never a problem before the last week or so.
Past practice: open a podcast I want to update in MUSIC. Click GET MORE EPISODES and jump to iTunes. Click on FREE to download to my phone. Simple.
Lately, though, in iTunes, FREE is either shaded grey, or even when it looks normal, no amount of pressing FREE does anything. (Also, sometimes when I open iTunes directly, it quits before doing anything).
Suggestions?
