iOS 5.1.1 includes fix for dangerous Safari URL spoofing vulnerability Posted: 07 May 2012 06:43 PM PDT Earlier today, Apple released a new version of its mobile software: iOS 5.1.1. The update includes a number of bug fixes, and also apparently contains a patch for the dangerous URL spoofing vulnerability in mobile Safari. We told you about the exploit, discovered by the folks at Major Security, back in March of this year. It allows web pages to spoof URLs in Safari’s address bar, leading users to believe they’re on a different website…(...) A look at TwitkaFly’s new Facebook plugin Posted: 07 May 2012 04:42 PM PDT Earlier today I had the opportunity to spend some time with the new Facebook plugin for TwitkaFly — the popular jailbreak tweak available on Cydia. TwitkaFly is a tweak that allows you to send Twitter updates from anywhere by means of a user-configurable Activator action. It is also one of the most well supported tweaks that I know of, which speaks volumes for moeseth, its developer. This new plugin will allow you to update your Facebook status, send a tweet, or do both at the same time. If you’d like to see how it works in action, then by all means take a gander…(...) GhostSiri: a new concept tweak that allows you to use Siri without its interface Posted: 07 May 2012 02:22 PM PDT Now here’s something a little different: GhostSiri — a tweak that will allow you to invoke Siri without being subjected to the Siri UI. It’s currently a concept tweak in the very early stages of development, but I see the potential for something good here. Take a look at our video walkthrough inside…(...) Apple says it’s investigating multi-user support for the iPad Posted: 07 May 2012 02:05 PM PDT Ever since Apple unveiled the original iPad, consumers have been clamoring for multiple user support. Such a feature would allow users to setup individual profiles with custom wallpapers, preferences, and other settings. The jailbreak community has tried to fill this void with tweaks like iUsers. But without iTunes support, among other issues, they’ve failed to make much of an impact. Luckily, it appears that Apple is working on the issue…(...) Piracy is a huge problem in the jailbreak community and here is the evidence to prove it Posted: 07 May 2012 01:50 PM PDT I’m not trying to pile on after my post about i0n1c, but my friend and iOS developer Filippo Bigarella just posted some stunning evidence as to how bad piracy is within the community. Bigarella is the mind behind such tweaks as Springtomize 2 and CleverPin, and he’s clearly one of the most talented and dedicated developers in the community. Hence, it’s sad to learn that his hard work is taken for granted by so many people. His latest tweak, Springtomize 2, has an audacious 92% piracy rate! And you wonder why people like i0n1c point to the piracy problem within the community?(...) Love him or hate him, i0n1c has skills Posted: 07 May 2012 01:03 PM PDT Love him or hate him, i0n1c has skills. Want proof? A little over a half an hour ago he showcased his new iPad (iPad 3) running Cydia on iOS 5.1.1. Said firmware was just released. I understand that this is a result of being able to jailbreak 5.1, but the fact still stands that he has the talent that the jailbreak community could benefit from. As you’re probably well aware of, i0n1c has an interesting relationship with the jailbreak community. On one hand, he’s a clearly talented hacker that can solve some of the most perplexing issues regarding iOS jailbreaking. On the other hand, he continues to spite the community with rants about piracy, money, and an overall disdain towards jailbreaking in general…(...) Refurbished iPads now available for as low as $279 on Apple.com Posted: 07 May 2012 12:32 PM PDT While purchasing a new iPad (third-generation) will still cost you a minimum $499, Apple is doing everything it can to make its tablets more affordable. Earlier this year it announced that it would be lowering the price of the iPad 2 to $399, and now it’s slashing the prices of its factory refurbished models…(...) Warning! Jailbreakers should avoid updating to iOS 5.1.1 Posted: 07 May 2012 11:58 AM PDT A few moments ago, Apple started pushing out iOS 5.1.1 to compatible devices. The update doesn’t appear to bring any new features, but it does include a handful of bug fixes and other improvements. While we’ve already confirmed that A4 devices running the new firmware can be jailbroken, that doesn’t mean you should update. In fact, those of you with with an A5(X) device should steer clear of it…(...) "Warning! Jailbreakers should avoid updating to iOS 5.1.1" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |

RIM: “you don’t just think different, you do different” Posted: 07 May 2012 10:30 AM PDT Risking to be called out as a fanboy, I just can’t help noticing the new lows Research In Motion sank to. The staged ‘Wake Up’ protest? Well, that silly campaign has now culminated with more of the same, as if this whole anti-Apple nonsense was going to do the company’s declining BlackBerry biz any good. Canada-based RIM, which recently unveiled its new BlackBerry 10 OS, set up a new website that invites business people to “wake up and be bold”. But the embattled BlackBerry maker, once a mighty smartphone brand, couldn’t refrain from taking potshots at Apple, saying in the crawl on the website that “you don’t just think different, you do different”. It’s no surprise that indirect Apple bashing is now official strategy at RIM. What surprises me is that nobody on the executive team realized it wouldn’t work. RIM’s clueless, man. They’re done for, but just don’t know it yet…(...) "RIM: “you don’t just think different, you do different”" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
