Thanks to all who replied. I had sent successful iMessages to both recipients many times before I tried to group message them. The problem turned out to be within my iPhone.

I deleted the problem message, quit the app. No luck. Then I shut off the phone and turned it back on. Same problem. I rebooted. The problem reappeared then corrected itself a few minutes later.

I'm not sure what fixed it but I'm glad it's gone.

I would __guess__ that the problem is the lowest common denominator. Meaning iMessage.app only sends one text, and whoever has the worst connection decides how the message is sent to all in the group.

So if one of the group either does not have iMessage or is not able to at that moment receive an iMessage text, the app makes the decision to send it as a SMS and not as an iMessage text. Think about it, the other option could have been, since all the recipients can't receive an iM text, don't send it to anyone.

It is only a stupid application, possibly the developers did not think of the need for a feature to send it out to different members of a group in both formats, or did not rank it high enough to bother. The message going out right now, might have ranked higher on the list of priorities.

Is anyone familiar with the LG LBT700 Bluetooth headset?

The LG LBT700 Bluetooth headset is the stereo headset that hangs around your neck. When I hit the button to make a phone call (usually accidentally) it activates the voice control (Siri is turned off) and will try to place a call to an arbitrary person in my phone book. How can I stop this from happening.

It's a pretty annoying feature for me. I tried using it since I don't keep the sound on all the time. After the first couple of phone calls I turned it off. I am now back to listening for the vibration noise when it's sitting on a hard surface.

Ok, I'd like to know how well Sprint works in California. I expect it not to work very well in mountainous areas as AT&T and VZ have sporadic service in mountainous areas here. I travel all over California.

I too have thought about Sprint, but you are right, I hear no one talking about it. One friend did tell me that she thought their overall service plans were more expensive than Verizon or AT&T.

I'm kind of stuck however... I have four family members on my plans and their contract dates all end at different times. So when the new iphone 5 comes out, in order for me to trade mine in for no cost (assuming Radio Shack and maybe Best Buy still will do that) then I am stuck to sign up with AT&T another two years.

If Verizon stops grandfathering unlimited data, then I'm in trouble at AT&T.

I'm sorry, but I still get a bit angry over this... they sold us a bill of goods with the new iphone, then they retracted it. The unlimited plans
still cost a lot of money/month and the limited plans are making prisoners of those who have them to checking on it all the time or if you forget and go over it is another $25 or so down the drain. New apps seem to come down already set up to push or send notifications... that takes up data also. I have friends with iphones (since they have become so popular) that when I explain how to use their iphone to save data, they have no idea what I am talking about and it goes right over their head and they don't seem all that interested in the details (until I suppose they start getting notices about getting close to going over their data plan).

end of rant. LOL

The thing about Sprint is they are great in some areas but spotty in
others. Check their coverage maps for YOUR area and see if any
friends or coworkers have them.

I have Sprint and been nothing but happy but my friend in a different
part of the country complains about them all the time.

Sprint has true unlimited everything for $99/month and they don't bitch and whine if you approach 2GB of data. :-)

Being stuck in a plan with others is why my hubby and I went with separate contracts. He's for sure going to Sprint. I'm still thinking about it.

$99 is more than I pay right now with AT&T but I don't talk that much on the phone. Checking Sprint plans, I can get the $79.99 plan that has 450 anytime minutes. That's enough talk time for me. I don't see where Sprint talks of roll over minutes.

True unlimited with Sprint means no limits, correct? I can use 5GB of data in a month and they wouldn't complain? I don't want to have to monitor my iPhone data usage anymore.

Yes. It's truly unlimited just like their commercials say. AT&T and Verizon are helping Sprint big time by doing away with unlimited data plans!!!

I may go to Sprint one day as well.

The point being, I do not want to pay $99 for 1 cellphone. If Sprint doesn't raise their rates, hubby and I are thinking of the the $149.99 family plan. It's still less than AT&T.

Sprint is helping themselves to their customers minutes too. Instead of roll-over minutes (saw nothing about roll-over minutes) they're selling their customers unused, paid for minutes to Ting.

Alice,

you need to narrow it down a little bit more. California is the 3rd largest state after Alaska and Texas. Can you get it down to a county or two?

Think of cellular as pretty much line of sight. It is not satellite and even that needs a clear line of sight to some extent.

It will go through buildings to some extent, but not through hills or mountains. I have found that cellular has problems going through metal roofs, foil-backed insulation, and tall warehouse racking.

I have also found cellular has problems with mountains and valleys. I drove up the California and Oregon Coast on the trip and there were all kinds of shadows in reception.

I used to travel for work to literally wide spots in the road and some farmer's field. And some were flat enough that to see over the "mountain", all I did was step up on the bumper of the pickup. What I have found with AT&T, VZ and US Cellular is that if the population is below 25 per square mile, don't expect cell service. They just can not justify the expense to put up towers. With the smaller cellular providers, don't expect service outside of metro areas and highway paths. It all depends on their partnership agreements.

BTW, AT&T pay-as-you-go accounts do not get access to those partnership agreements, so don't expect service in southern Wyoming in the cities or along the highway, much of Colorado and many other places. They won't tell you that until after you have signed up and complained several times.

Ok, I'd like to know how well Sprint works in California. I expect it not to work very well in mountainous areas as AT&T and VZ have sporadic service in mountainous areas here. I travel all over California.

Alice,

I kinda remember that you live in a motor home and are retired. Or am I mistaken. If you two travel all over, maybe having two different services might be better. Hopefully one will always work.

How do they do that? Do they grab the little clocks from the trash like that old TV commercial?

They just know that on average their customers only use so much and they sell access to Ting. All of they do it. They have to, the FCC requires that they make it available to the smaller carriers.

Naw, I live in a single story house in the Sacramento area. We have friends all over CA, so we travel all over the state in our mini cooper.

Yes, the California coast has terrible cell service. I turn my phone completely off when on traveling alng the coast. AT&T works well in the Sacramento area where I'm at. I travel all over the state. I've got friends all over the state.

Default action after deleting an email

Regarding deleting an email from within the message, most email clients have a Setup option to either open the next message or return to the message list. Can I do this in an iPhone--return to the list upon deletion of a message?

The alternative is elaborate and annoying. I need to
Delete the unwanted message,
then from the next message which I do not necessarily want to read, and I don't want it falsely marked as having been read--
Mark,
Mark as Unread,
Back-Arrow to the list.

Dictation Autocorrect options

Posted by: "Jim (Chicago)" book_of_hezekiah_10_26@yahoo.com   book_of_hezekiah_10_26

When I use dictation software, I will get the blue dashes under questionable phrases. Sometimes clicking on these words will pop up potential alternate spellings. Other times they pop up "Select all" or other options, but not suggested spellings.  At other times the dashes are there, but clicking on the word yields no popup/response at all. Sometimes this happens when I have already edited one word and am going to the next one. That second word will be basically unclickable (no suggestions).

How do I keep all of those active until I've chosen the corrections?

Also, what is this feature called? I hesitate to lump it in as "Siri." Are there good tips on how to "train" it? Like, for some texts, the people may not have me as a contact so I like to say my name, and even though I am in my own Contact List, my name is always spelled wrong.
