Posted: 17 May 2012 04:28 PM PDT

The 4-inch iPhone. According to just about every major news publication — The Wall Street Journal, Reuters, etc. — it’s coming. But where does that leave the 600,000+ apps designed for a 3.5″ screen and their developers?

Well the most popular theory for how Apple will go about making a 4-inch iPhone is to give it a resolution of 640×1158, and an aspect ratio of 9:5. So Overdrive Design decided to show us what that would do to current apps…(...)

New Infinity Blade Dungeons gameplay footage is totally eye-candy

Posted: 17 May 2012 03:15 PM PDT

If you own an iPad 3, Infinity Blade Dungeons is that killer game you've been dying to show off to your Android-toting friends. Unlike elegiac masterpieces Infinity Blade I & II that have been created by Chair Entertainment, Epic entrusted the creation of Infinity Blade Dungeons to a small team comprised of vets who worked on Gears of Wars.

It’s one of a select few games Apple demoed during March's iPad 3 introduction to show off the graphics prowess of its new tablet and the improved A5X chip that rocks quad-core graphics engine.

If this new gameplay footage is anything to go by, this dungeon crawler is going to raise the ladder of console-grade gaming on portable devices…(...)

These two tweaks make it easier to delete contacts and history items

Posted: 17 May 2012 02:57 PM PDT

For some strange reason Apple has made deleting contacts an overly difficult task; they’ve likewise made deleting individual Safari history items impossible.

Perhaps these hurdles and restrictions exists by design, but that doesn’t change the fact that they’re both incredibly annoying.

If you happen to be jailbroken, two tweaks — OneByOne Safari and OneByOne Contacts — seek to address this lingering issue within iOS. Full video walkthrough inside…(...)

Verizon clarifies plans to discontinue grandfathered unlimited data plans

Posted: 17 May 2012 02:19 PM PDT

Verizon’s CFO Fran Shammo caused quite a commotion yesterday when he said the carrier was going to be discontinuing grandfathered unlimited data plans this summer. “Everyone will be on data share.”

Folks are upset over the comments because up until this point, Verizon has allowed unlimited data users to keep the plan even though it no longer offers it. So the operator issued a clarification today…(...)

New Party Doodles app shows the potential of Apple TV gaming

Posted: 17 May 2012 01:41 PM PDT

I’ve said before that I felt like AirPlay Mirroring was one of the most underrated features of iOS 5. The ability to wirelessly stream content from the device to a TV seemed like an open invitation for iOS developers to create console-esque games.

We’ve seen a couple of big name titles take advantage of this, but perhaps none of them showcases the feature’s potential better than Cerebral Gardens’ recently-released Party Doodles…(...)

ABC rips off Apple’s famed ’1984’ advert to hype up dumb singing contest

Posted: 17 May 2012 12:13 PM PDT

The American Broadcasting Company (ABC) has ripped off Apple's famous advert dubbed 1984 in a cheapskate attempt to promote its upcoming new singing show called Duets (I know, don't start).

Alluding to George Orwell’s 1984 novel, ABC’s cheesy commercial blatantly copies Apple's down to a lookalike of an unnamed heroine in white tank top that represented the coming of the Macintosh.

Instead of throwing a large brass-headed hammer to smash a televised Big Brother, in ABC's version an Olympic track and field athlete hurls a stage microphone at the big screen. Upon impact, the curtain falls down to reveal the familiar-looking set as the audience rises to a standing ovation…(...)

Best Buy offering the iPhone 4 for $50

Posted: 17 May 2012 10:47 AM PDT

It’s pretty obvious that we love our iPhones here at iDB. But we understand the handset can be a bit pricey. So we do our best to try and pass along any deals we find regarding the device.

The latest sale we’ve come across belongs to Best Buy. The international retail chain is currently offering the iPhone 4, on AT&T, Verizon and Sprint, for just $49.99 with a contract…(...)

Take that, Greenpeace! Apple’s iCloud solar farm is a go-go

Posted: 17 May 2012 10:31 AM PDT

Apple doesn’t run the cleanest of clouds, we all know this. Fortunately, the company’s strides to reduce reliance on “19th-century coal energy", as Greenpeace put it, have received a boost from The North Carolina Utilities Commission which has now approved plans for a massive solar farm to power Apple’s $1 billion data center in Maiden, North Carolina.

It’s gonna provide 20 megawatts of power to power iCloud servers that host the iTunes infrastructure, your music, photos, contacts and iOS device backups, to name a few…(...)
