Howdy.

Check also the Energy Saver panel in System Preferences.

There is a check box there named "Wake for Ethernet network access."
Checking this on means that if your Mac receives a message via Ethernet
wired cable from the internet (like mail, or a download, etc.) it will
wake up for that.
