Winter Park, Florida - CreeperWare today is pleased to launch Vortex - The Escape 2.1 for iOS, a genre-defying blend of action platformer and puzzle game, allowing for both fast paced action gameplay and/or methodical puzzle play. Players control ENDR, a quirky robot, as he weaves his way through the robot testing facility with the aid of his Vortex gun. An outdated robot, he tries to prove his worth by reaching the end of all 32 levels. During his trials he must defy gravity, travel impossible distances in the blink of an eye, and weave through environmental hazards and more to make it to the exit door of each level.

Level 1 includes the backstory to Vortex - The Escape. The setting is a large computer manufacture, repair, and scrap facility. It is rendered in dystopian shades of grey, black, and white. There are color accents of deep green, yellow, and red, but 98% of each scene is B&W. ENDR, the small robot, is being held aloft by a large robotic arm, and the evaluation computer speaks aloud,"Subject E.N.D.R. You have been scheduled for incineration. Prepare to meet your programmer."

ENDR replies, "Why? I may be a few years past my last service date, but I can test just as well as any other bot!"

"Hardly. We have toasters in the lab more sophisticated than you."

"Just give me one more chance to prove I can at least test better than those toasters!" pleads ENDR.

"Very well," answers the evaluation computer. "But if you fail, instead of being incinerated, you will be repurposed into the janitorial department. Which, I can tell you with absolute certainty, will be unpleasant. In either case, prepare for reconstruction and deployment to the testing grounds."

In his first test, ENDR enters a room with a very high ceiling, fluorescent lights, a large platform that reaches half way to the ceiling, and an exit door leading offscreen from the end of the platform. The player's goal is to follow the striped yellow/black arrows, going up, onto the platform, and right, through the exit. And in a typical platform game, this would be fairly straightforward.

But Vortex - The Escape is as much a puzzle game as a platformer, so there are complications. First, players can use touch controls to move the robot left and right, or to have him jump about one foot off the floor. A third control raises and lowers ENDR's right hand, in which he holds a Vortex gun. Players can aim the gun by controlling the angle of the robot's raised arm over 360 degrees, and they can fire by touching the screen.

Firing the gun creates a blue-target Vortex on the surface of whatever the gun hits. The animated blue-target Vortex is a gateway through space, itself. Firing the gun a second time creates an orange-target Vortex. When ENDR goes through the blue Vortex, he exits from the orange vortex, and vice versa, after which gravity and the everyday laws of space-time are again restored. With his limited physical abilities, the robot must use his puzzle-solving capabilities to make the best use of his one advantage: the Vortex gun.

There are a total of 32 challenging puzzles, some quite difficult. ENDR must negotiate one or more platforms per puzzle, through ducts, obstacles, and factory mazes. And he must also confront his nemesis, the intelligent toaster, finding a creative means of destroying these kitchenware obstacles wherever they block his successful completion of a level.

The app can also be used as an interactive teaching tool, allowing musicians to learn new chords by discovering what happens when they alter a basic chord they already know.

Using Chord Dictionary is extremely simple and the app's window is small and not expandable. The center of the window contains five frets vertically and six strings horizontally in the standard representation. On the far left are the fret numbers aligned in a column next to the diagram. On the far right is a slide control for moving up and down the fretboard. With the slide control fully down, frets 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are displayed. The slide control can be raised to move up the neck one fret at a time until frets 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22 are displayed. The components of the chord (root, third, fifth, seventh, etc.) are aligned horizontally at the bottom below each string. Lastly, the complete name of the chord is displayed in bold at the top of the window.

With Chord Dictionary set to display frets 1 - 5, the user simply clicks on a string to produce a large black dot or fingering (e.g., first string / third fret, fifth string / second fret, sixth string / third fret for G Major). Each click changes the name of the chord and the components of the new chord (it is also possible to eliminate a string from the fingering). Since many chords can be played using a variety of fingerings (inversions and voicings), musicians can quickly determine if they are playing such a variant. In fact, Chord Dictionary will name every conceivable chord on the guitar neck, including those that are physically impossible to play. That means that it knows music harmony and can figure out chord names just from notes and intervals. This capability is invaluable for students of music theory, jazz guitarists, composers, transcriptionists, and midi-programmers.

Learning about chords from books is somewhat difficult, but Chord Dictionary offers an alternative. For example, from the G Major chord it is possible to create more than 30 G chords, such as G maj7, maj9, maj11, maj13, maj9#11, maj13#11, 6, add9, 6add9, maj7b5, maj7#5, m7, m9, m11, m13, m6, madd9, m6add9, mmaj7, mmaj9, m7b5, m7#5, 7, 9, 11, 13 7sus4, 7b5, 7#5, 7b9, 7#9, 7, aug, dim, dim7, sus4, sus2, etc. From the basic three-finger G Major chord, the musician can learn interactively the result of adding fourth string / fret one (Gaug5), fret two (G6), fret three (G7), fret 4 (Gmaj7), fret 5 (Gmaj), etc.

80s bedroom coder Martin Wheeler had his first game published at the age of fourteen, by Richard Branson's fledgling Virgin Games label. 'Sorcery' was a best-seller and one of many hits for Martin, who says the company's success didn't bring him any financial rewards. "I was just out of school and making games was my dream job. I never contested the fact that my royalty statements always amounted to nil" recalls Martin. As a member of Virgin's much lauded Gang Of Five the 'rockstar' programmer earned a salary of just 4,000 per year and lived at home with his parents.

On meeting Virgin's millionaire founder, Richard Branson, Martin was affectionately dubbed a 'little whizz kid'. But by 1988 the young man behind the success of Virgin Games had left the company, disillusioned. Losing touch with his former colleagues Martin ended up working as a hospital cleaner until a chance phone call and the arrival of Nintendo's Game Boy rebooted his games career.

Twenty years later, Martin says it feels just like the old days of bedroom coding all over again - with his own indie startup project, Recluse Industries launching a game he developed on his iPhone.

Featuring a booty-shaking robot and dancing girls intent on chasing anything in metal trousers, 'Go Robo!' is a fun casual game with neon-bright colors and an electro-pop soundtrack by Vector-Lovers (Martin's music producer alias, under which he is signed to record label Soma Records). Play-tested by his own children, the game is inspired by the arcade classics of the 8-bit era, with simple game play and that 'one more go' quality.

A father of two, Martin hopes the game will help his daughter and others like her, who have autism. Recluse Industries is donating a quarter of all sales income to support the National Autistic Society and has set an initial target of raising 5,000 for the charity. Martin's daughter attends a local school in York with special facilities for children with developmental and sensory issues. "Life can be very difficult for families affected by autism." He says. "We couldn't have coped without extra support and assistance, and I'd like to raise awareness and funds for the cause."

Martin developed 'Go Robo!' over a period of four months and admits it's an all-or-nothing venture. "I've created a lot of successful games, including an award-winning title for Nintendo - but I have yet to find an investor with the vision to back me. I've put everything I have into this. It's something I really believe in and love doing."
