Report says Apple’s smaller tablet will indeed be called iPad mini Posted: 25 Aug 2012 01:04 PM PDT With Apple’s media event (or two media events) getting closer, the rumor mill has gone into full swing. Earlier today, reports surfaced regarding the new iPod touch, and nano. And now this. Citing an Asian source, Japanese blog Macotakara says it has learned that Apple will be in fact calling its smaller tablet the “iPad mini” — a name used often by the media to describe the device…(...) New cases point to a redesigned iPod touch, more iPod nano rumors Posted: 25 Aug 2012 12:33 PM PDT Though we’ve seen a handful of leaked front panels that reportedly belong to the next-gen iPod touch, information regarding the mp3 player has been extremely scarce as of late. But that changed today, as photos of what are believed to be cases for the new iPod touch surfaced on the web. The cases suggest, among other things, the device has been redesigned…(...) Confirmed? iPad mini event to be held in October Posted: 25 Aug 2012 09:52 AM PDT Up until a couple days ago, it was the general assumption that the iPad mini would be unveiled at the same time as the new iPhone, likely on September 12. To be honest, I never thought that would be the case (see conclusion of my Nexus 7 review), but I never really cared to explain why. On Thursday, John Gruber took it to his blog to explain why it didn’t make sense for Apple to hold one event to unveil both the iPhone 5 and the iPad mini. And he makes lots of sense. Why would Apple unveil two major products at the same time and risk diluting the publicity around both of them. As Gruber himself puts it, “Why share the spotlight? Why have another Apple product battling with the iPhone for the top spots in news coverage?” Turns out he was right, as a semi official confirmation coming minutes later from legendary Jim Dalrymple brought credibility to the claim. Today, AllThingsD confirmed the story with their own sources and though there has been no official word from Apple on the matter, it does seem like the iPad mini will be unveiled in October…(...) TVLocker Pro puts your iPhone to sleep tube TV-style Posted: 25 Aug 2012 09:00 AM PDT Some folks like to jailbreak their devices to add more functionality, and some folks do it just to change the look and feel of them. And if you happen to fall in the second category, you might be interested in this. TVLocker is a new jailbreak tweak that adds a bit of old-school flavor to the way you lock your iPhone or iPad. So instead of your device just fading to a black screen, you get a tube TV-style animation…(...) "TVLocker Pro puts your iPhone to sleep tube TV-style" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
The iKid: a shock absorbing foam case for your iPad Posted: 25 Aug 2012 07:00 AM PDT One of the great things about the iPad is the fact that it’s so easy to use, a toddler could use it. In fact, they do use it. Recent studies show that roughly 40% of children ages 2-4 have used an iPad or similar device. But unless you want to put the fate of your $500 tablet in the hands of a two-year old, you better put a case on it. Unfortunately, there’s not a whole lot of choices out there that are kid-friendly. Enter the iKid…(...) "The iKid: a shock absorbing foam case for your iPad" is an article by iDownloadBlog.com. |
IconToggles adds useful shortcuts to your Home screen Posted: 25 Aug 2012 05:00 AM PDT As long as Apple keeps the system toggles buried in the Settings app in iOS, jailbreak developers will keep coming up with new shortcuts for users to access them. The latest tweak to fall into this category is IconToggles. Similar to Usefullcons, the utility adds icons to your Spring board that act as shortcuts for Settings toggles…(...) Apple vs. Samsung injunction hearing set for September 20th Posted: 24 Aug 2012 10:19 PM PDT Just as we expected, shortly after the jury handed down its verdict today, Judge Lucy Koh set a date for a preliminary injunction hearing. Apple has already won — some one billion dollars in damages — but now it’s looking for sales bans. The hearing is set for September 20th. And considering that the jury found several of Samsung’s handsets, and two of its tablets, to be infringing on Apple’s patents, it’s very possible that we could see some products banned from the US… (...) Tim Cook responds to Samsung ruling in internal email Posted: 24 Aug 2012 09:07 PM PDT Late this afternoon, the jury handed down a verdict in the US-based Apple vs Samsung trial. Samsung was found guilty of willfully infringing on several of Apple’s patents, and will be forced to pay major damages. Both companies have since released statements on the ruling. Apple, of course, is thrilled with the outcome, while Samsung says that it’s a loss for the American consumer. And now, here’s Tim Cook’s response…(...)
