> While I pointed out that it is a technical violation of the license, that is merely in the interest of full knowledge. I am of the opinion that given the history of the OS and the current market stance of Apple, installing 10.5 on a G5 is neither an ethical breach or a violation of the "spirit" of the license. But that is only one man's opinion.

However, even the earliest Macbooks and Macbook Pros can run 10.6. He could purchase a 10.6 upgrade for the MB. The EULA for 10.5, I am pretty sure, allows it to be installed on a single machine. If it worked, he could have 10.5 on the G5 and 10.6 on the MB.
And 10.6 is more available, and much less expensive.

As you say, I suspect the MacBook's install DVD might be Intel-only, so I
doubt the G5 would be able to boot from an OS installed from it.
AND, of course, if this is tried and fails, the G5 needs to be restored
(cloned) from the clone.

I would look for a second hand 10.5 or Mac Box Set that is no longer in
use. There must be people here who have that. (I have a 10.5 Box Set but
10.5 is still in use here on an iBook.)

I'm guessing that mvx is a standard Unix mailbox file which you then should be able to import back into Mail.
I use MailSteward (available from the developer or MAS) to achieve the same results.
Always found him very receptive to new ideas.

A couple of months ago I turned off the screensaver to 'never' on the
scale in the System Preferences. Now it keeps reverting to 'never'
everytime I set it to another time and close the preferences. So it does
not come on. Does anyone have any idea of what to do? I also had a
problem with a stuck desktop picture for a while but trashed the
preferences for the desktop and it fixed it.... but no such luck with
the screensaver.
I know screensavers are no longer important but this one Marine Aquarium
shows a fishtank and is great to look at with fish moving around. I
have an iMac with Snow Leopard.
Thanks for any suggestions.

Well I ordered a Magic Mouse from Amazon.fr - it was €10 cheaper than
apple.fr. It was about the same price as amazon.fr from amazon.co.uk
but I would have had to pay postage. As it happened the on-line parcel
tracking told me that it came post-free from Peterborough in the UK.
Oh the absurdities of European trade!
It arrived in a shiny crystal box worthy of a piece of jewellery -
complete with batteries - and pairing with the computer and setting up
was the usual Apple no-fuss process.
I like the elegant design and low profile. In operation I can't fault
it - the right click is much more positive than the Mighty Mouse and
the absence of a cat-fur-trapping scroll ball on the top is wonderful!
I think the Mighty Mouse is a rare example of Apple bad design - it
avoids the easily contaminated lower rolling ball by going optical,
only to reintroduce another easily-contaminated scroll ball on the
top.
The touch-sensitive top overlaps the function of my TrackPad but I
find myself swapping from one to the other depending on the
application - Magic Mouse for documents and Trackpad for graphics.
I haven't yet decided whether to go for a general-purpose AA battery
charger and rechargeable batteries or the Mobee (or similar) charger
with special rechargeables. I'd like to see what battery life I get.
The TrackPad is left on all the time and that lasts quite a long time.
Once again, thank you good people for your advice.
regards,
Ian

I hoped to make it a bit less "cookie cutter" than a Flickr web album. I've done that before with iWeb. I've not given up on iWeb yet. I'm trying to do this having returned from 2 weeks away from work to find stacks of stuff on my virtual and electronic desktops that make me wonder if vacations are worth it (for a nanosecond), so progress is slow :-)

Fire fox puts up a yellow requester saying I need to update some of the plug ins Iam using. I try to up date ,but all the plugin's are for a newer version Of what I have and will not run on my g5 or the version of firefox I have.
The requester KEEP's comming up all the time, gets in the way and moves things positions on the screen as it shows up.
1. Is there a better program or as good as firefox for my Mac?
2. How do I get rid of the requester asking to update?
