Right. Still wondering about my iMac and its construction. I had an onsite repair by Apple and watched the whole.procedure. My optical drive and glass were replaced. It was quite an ordeal just to get to the drive.
Having started in hardware many years ago, I wouldn't attempt this one. Computers have become like cars over the years, smaller and more compact. It took the tech 3 tries to get a small ribbon cable seated properly to get the blowers working again. Almost 3 reassemblies in total. Frustrating.
I can attest to the fact that the normally unseen casing was as appealing as the exterior casing. The aluminum was just as 'finished' inside and out. Steve Jobs' touch showed.
Well designed for such a problem free unit. Worth every penny.
Even many developers have stated they have no plans or desire to develop software for android. Big companies as well.
Being a registered Apple developer, thats great to hear (off.subject a bit, but an aside)
I was looking at it, but no more.

I suspect that it still applies to machines like my MacbookPro5,1 that were designed for an easily-swapped 2.5" rotating-disk hard drive.
But does it apply to a Retina Macbook Pro? or to a Macbook Air?

iFixit used to have comprehensive repair info in .iso format available for the downloading 'por nada'
I won't have my iMac back until the.3rd and I won't even attempt redownloading using this clunker.of a phone :) I missed the money back return by a day.
After I see what Apple has to offer on the 12th, this will more than likely hit.the junk.drawer for good.
Fortunately.there is no contract!

iFixit also has a comprehensive free iOS and android app. Quite good and appears to have much of their manuals included along with detailed pictures and schematics.
Check out the app store.

It doesn't matter. That's the law. They can't void your warranty for doing your own service or for using third party parts. However, if you damage something by doing your own service, they don't have to cover that. And if the third party part fails, they don't have to cover that either.
This was all settled many years ago in a lawsuit where a car owner went to a private garage to have his car fixed. General Motors then refused to honor the car's warranty entirely. The court said..."Ah..

For the people who have updated OS X 10.8.1 did it help with the battery not draining so fast. Let us know if the update fixed it?

I was a problem in Power Nap and on my Retina MacBook Pro yes I think it
helped a lot still watching it though.

I thought the Retina's flash memory was soldered-innot standard replaceable
SSD format (hard-drive shape).

Maybe, Tod, but I gave up getting Lion after going through 3 levels of support at Apple (nicely) and then spending time with several employees (including, ultimately, the manager) at the local Apple store. Ended up with "Sorry, but we can't do it."
Either they've changed that or else you spoke to someone willing to break their rule, but I didn't find that person.

I have a MacBook 3,1. What's the latest OSX version
that this machine will support?
The assorted esoteric names for hardware versions
leave me totally confused.
TIA!
