I was looking at my activity monitor listings and system software overview and noticed secure virtual memory is on. I never noticed it before. Is it supposed to be on or even necessary to be on and if not, how do I turn it back to regular memory?

I've also noticed that my iPhoto version 9.3.2 is on in 32 bit, while everything else on the machine with one or two exceptions is in 64 bit mode. Is this version in need of a purchase to get it up to 64 bit?

Rick

I think where I am running into trouble is my TM Backups that I have on an external 2TB Drive, but Spotlight will not allow me to exclude that drive, saying that Spotlight needed to scan TM backups. So, that leaves me having to unmount the external drive each time I want to check the MAS for updates. No big deal I suppose, but hopefully Apple will someday fix the problem as you mentioned in an earlier post.

I too have a 2TB external drive with TM backups and a Carbon Copy
Clone. Thanks to this thread I tried un-mounting the drive, which
worked for a while, until the next TM backup when the "update
available" tag appeared on the App Store icon.
So I went to System Preferences/Spotlight/Privacy and excluded the
external drive from the Spotlight scan.
Now the App Store icon shows no updates required.

regards,
Ian

Yesterday I did exclude all my backup drives, including the TM drive,
and have restarted the computer (iMac running 10.6.8) at least twice,
and the app store icon still shows that I do have to make that one
update, but when I click on the update icon on top it says that it
has already been updated and it is grayed out. I guess I'll live with
it until there is another update to Weatherman Lite.

The external drive is a brand new 750GB G DRive Mini, with two FW 800
ports, one USB 2.0 port and an optional 12V input for an external
power supply (if needed).

Every other FW drive connecting through my MBP's FW 800 has been
totally fine. This is the only drive to have experienced any issues.

Based on comments here and on other lists, I've dedicated this drive
exclusively to TimeMachine duty.

All the cables I tested worked fine with other drives. This drive,
being new, has only FW 800 and USB 2.0, so FW400 was never an option.

Amazing, however, how reliably TimeMachine has worked since the
switch over to USB.
