Teacher's New App To help All students to exam and revision success - Published on 12/02/12
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
With a multitude of examinations undertaken by today's students preparing and keeping track of your examination schedule can be a real headache. Exam Pal 1.1 enables you to find scheduled dates and information for any exam currently awarded by all the major Awarding Examination Bodies in the UK, US and International regions. Track your exams, log your results, schedule your homework, enter your timetable and access key revision tips. A must for all students studying for exams at all levels.
London, United Kingdom - Andrew Buck, a visionary graphic design teacher at Hastingsbury College of Business and Enterprise in Bedford, has collaborated with smartphone app experts, who are also parents, at 4fx Design & Multimedia in Milton Keynes to create Exam PAL. On receiving clearance from Apple's App Store, the app was launched on 11 November to help pupils in the UK, USA and international schools with exams.
"Secondary schools give pupils a paper copy of their exam timetables just weeks prior to their examinations which are scheduled throughout the year. It contains vital information such as the exam paper details, entry levels, date, time, duration, venue, candidate and seat numbers. Needless to say, the schedules often become damaged or lost."
"Even though examination boards tend to arrange the exam timetables several months in advance, most candidates tend to use their personal timetables issued by the school before they start revision. Valuable time for revision planning is lost with students often using incorrect revision methods or simply wanting to know how and when to start revising."
"I had an idea to solve this problem, which I shared with Julie King and Chris Coomber from 4fx. I applied my fifteen years of working as a school teacher and examinations officer to create Exam PAL for Android and iPhones - most teenagers carry them. It provides personalised exam schedules months in advance, time management tools, revision techniques and advice to help them organise themselves and reduce anxiety," explained Andrew.
Exam PAL provides the type of workflow tools that many adults use in the workplace. Lessons, homework and exams, including mocks, are colour-coded within the timetable. There is also a daily countdown function and alert feature so examination dates can't creep up on candidates.
"At 1.99 we think this will be a big hit with parents who can keep an eye on things by linking their online diaries into their children's Exam PAL app," said Chris at 4fx, who led the development team.
Pupils can plan their revision into their personal timetables and use Andrew's revision tips and advice to help cope with the pressure. Exam PAL also provides guidance on examination grammar and vocabulary, with access to past papers to help optimise the students' results.
"The support provided doesn't stop the day you complete your last exam. It stores the user's exam results ready to print out when applying for jobs, university and college placements. I personally think this is a simple but effective milestone because, let's be honest, how many people lose their school exam results paperwork?" concluded Julie King, director at 4fx.
Exam PAL is a feature-rich, innovative application that is committed to raising the awareness of examination preparation and success.
About Exam PAL:
Exam Pal aids students studying at GCSE, GCE (AS), VCE (A2), GNVQ, ELC, AEA, FSMQ, STEP, SATS and ACT levels. It is automatically updated as soon as exam information is released from mainstream examination boards (AQA, Edexcel, OCR, CCEA, WJEC, College Board and ACT). The app is available to download from the App Store at 1.99 and users receive upgrades as they are released at no extra charge. To be used by students studying for examinations in the UK, US and worldwide regions.
Are you a student studying for forth coming examinations? Are you a student struggling to cope with the demands of revision and multiple exams? Are you a student desperate for revision help but don't know where to start? Are you a parent who wishes to help their child to academic success?

Flying Pig releases Localizator 1.0 for Macintosh - Published on 12/03/12
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Flying Pig introduces Localizator 1.0, an Xcode project's localizations tool, specifically designed for developers who are working on massively localized projects with external support for translation. Localizator browses a selected root directory looking for strings files, copies them, organizes them by language and creates a separate Localizator project, which can be saved aside and exchanged between engineers and translators outside of the actual Xcode project, making it safe to edit.
Cupertino, California - Flying Pig is proud to announce the release of Localizator 1.0, an Xcode project's localizations tool, specifically designed for developers who are working on massively localized projects with a need of external support for translation.
Localizator browses a selected root directory, typically an Xcode project folder, looking for strings files, copy them, organize them by language and create a separate Localizator project which can be saved aside and exchanged between engineers and translators outside of the actual Xcode project, making it safe to edit.
Upon completion of the localization work, the user can push the changes into the Xcode project file tree. Localizator will replace only edited files automatically removing for developers the hassle of finding and replacing each file one by one.
Localizator is an easy to use, simple software which becomes particularly useful with complex projects such as those which include plugins or sub-projects.
As Apple expressed at mutliple occasions, localizing software opens up new market opportunities.
Combined with Base Internationalization feature from latest Xcode versions, Localizator can easily integrate the developers workflow and become a powerful tool which will definitely help developers master the challenge of the diversity the Apple App Stores' market is offering.
System Requirements:
* Requires Mac OS X 10.8 Mountain Lion or later
* 10.8 MB
Pricing and Availability:
Localizator 1.0 is $9.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the Mac App Store in the Developer Tools category.

Life Inventory - iOS App that Can Change Quality of Life - New Ver. 2.5 - Published on 12/03/12
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Indie developer James Hollender's Life Inventory apps can help change the quality of life. The iPad and iPhone version are Lifestyle apps that guide users in creating their own Life Inventory, which can provide greater self-understanding of personality, strengths and weaknesses leading to a better quality of life. These apps allow the user to learn more about themselves than ever thought possible and at only a small fraction the cost of a single visit to a therapist.
Revere, Massachusetts - Indie developer James Hollender's Life Inventory apps can help change the quality of life. For the iPhone version, now 2.5, the developer quickly responded to a user complaint, that the app didn't indicate where to start in a very prominent way. Now the app has, under the Information tab, a big "Quick Information" button at the top, which provides an easy-to-follow list of "How to Proceed with creating your own Life Inventory." Understanding the four steps now makes it crystal clear how the process works:
1. Start with the leftmost tab and work your way to the right.
2. Within each tab do each activity from top to bottom.
3. Complete each activity before proceeding to the next.
4. Don't rush. The more time you invest, the better understanding you'll get of yourself.
The process of completing a Life Inventory does not directly address anyone's specific problems or addictions, but rather helps the user examine in detail events that have transpired in their life. The Life Inventory app gently assists the user in probing into not only what happened, but also why it happened. The questions asked help the user delve into areas often never considered before, like:
* What did I want?
* Why did I want it?
* What am I not admitting?
* What lie did I tell myself?
* What did I leave out or not say?
* What lie did I tell others?
* Have I ever done the same thing?
* Was it any of my business?
* Were my expectations reasonable?
* What was the real truth?
* What was I not seeing?
* Did I fail to see the facts of the situation?
* What actions did I take to get what I wanted?
* What actions did I omit to get what I wanted?
Life Inventory for iPad guides the user through six different steps, each with its own activity grouping, for making a Life Inventory in writing:
* Build Lists
* Causes and Effects
* My Part
* Fears Analysis
* Fear Questions
* Sex Relations
Throughout the process, users are encouraged to write out their Inventory, be completely honest about themselves and take advantage of encouragement and support.
The Inventory begins by making one simple list, which defines four fixed Categories in which to file away what are broadly categorized as Incidents:
* People
* Institutions and Organizations
* Principles, Ideals and Beliefs
* Sources of Anxiety and Excitement
Each of the four Categories will contain hierarchical sub-categories. From there, users outline Entities and then individual Incidents.
Step-by-step, users complete the Causes and Effects of each Incident. Next, users determine the part they played in each Incident listed. It is not unusual to create hundreds of Incident forms, each devoted to a single incident. The app includes the ability to create and save all written lists and forms with password protection. Having completed all their Incident forms, users can refer to these forms to help list all their Fears. The app includes the following eight pre-defined fears, to which the user is free to add:
* Other people's opinions
* Not getting what I want
* Not having control of the situation
* Financial insecurity
* Abandonment
* Physical harm
* Failure
* Success
The fifth step is examining each Fear category and answering the following key questions:
* Why did I have this fear?
* When did I first notice this fear in my life?
* How did I hold on to this fear?
* What did this fear make me do?
* What chain of circumstances did this fear set in motion in my life?
* How did I react to this fear?
* What decision did this fear cause me to make?
* How did self-reliance fail me?
* What should I have done instead?
And the sixth and final step is examining Sex Relations, where users answer all the following questions regarding each of their sexual relationships:
* How was I selfish?
* Where was I dishonest?
* Where was I inconsiderate?
* Who was hurt in this situation?
* Did I arouse jealousy, suspicion, or bitterness?
* Where was I at fault?
* What should I have done instead?
* What will I do in the future?
* Did I pray or have spiritual conversations with him/her?
* Did I pray for him/her?
* Did I enjoy his/her company?
* Did we bring each other closer to God?
"The process of completing a Life Inventory doesn't directly address anyone's specific problems or addictions, but rather helps the user examine in detail events that have transpired in their life," stated indie developer James Hollender. "The Life Inventory for iPad app gently assists the user in probing into not only what happened, but also why it happened."
James Hollender is also the author of a suite of Nutrient apps based on the USDA National Nutrient Database:
* iCarbs (Carbohydrates)
* iCholesterol (Dietary Cholesterol)
* iFiber
* iKals (Calories)
* iProteins
* iSatFat (Saturated Fat)
* iSodium (Vitamins K1, K1D & K2)
* iSugars
* Vitamin K
Device Requirements:
* "Life Inventory" - iPhone and iPod touch
* "Life Inventory for iPad" - iPad only
* Requires iOS 4.3 or later
Pricing and Availability:
Life Inventory and Life Inventory for iPad 2.6 are $9.99 (USD) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Lifestyle category. A Lite version of the app is $1.99, a supplement that provides a mock Moral Inventory from which the user can learn by example and experimentation. A similar version is also available for the iPhone and iPod touch. Review copies are available on request.

Chord Dictionary 1.2 for OS X - Reverse Chord Lookup from the Fretboard - Published on 12/03/12
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
ipSoft today announces Chord Dictionary 1.2 for OS X, an update to its app that provides reverse chord lookup from a guitar fretboard. Unlike most chord dictionaries, which provide the correct fingering for a chord, the app allows users to create their own chord and then look up its name. Ideal for musicians of any level of expertise, Chord Dictionary can figure out chord names just from notes and intervals, covers all 22 frets, and now features audio playback of the note or chord selected.
Reykjavik, Iceland - ipSoft today is pleased to announce Chord Dictionary 1.2 for OS X, its innovative music app that provides instant reverse chord lookup from a guitar fretboard. Unlike most chord dictionaries, which allow the user to select a chord and then view the correct fingering on the fretboard, the app allows users to create their own chord and then lookup its name. An ideal reference tool for musicians of any level of expertise, Chord Dictionary can figure out chord names just from notes and intervals, and it will identify every conceivable chord on all 22 frets of the guitar and every possible note over the guitar's almost 4-octave range. The app can also be used as an interactive teaching tool, allowing musicians to learn new chords by discovering what happens when they alter a basic chord they already know. The update includes audio playback of the note or chord selected, a redesigned interface, and export to a .png image file.
Feature Highlights:
* Reverse chord lookup from a guitar fretboard
* Covers all 22 frets, plus chords that are physically impossible to play
* Provides the exact name of the chord produced by any fingering
* Sound added to play notes and chords selected on the guitar neck
* Completely redesigned interface
* Moves up the fretboard using the scroll wheel, while maintaining the fingering
* Chord can now be exported to a .png image file
* An ideal reference for musicians of every level of experience and education
Using Chord Dictionary is extremely simple, and the redesigned app window is small, but expandable. The center of the window contains five frets vertically and six strings horizontally in the standard representation. On the far left are the fret numbers aligned in a column next to the diagram. The far right slide control for moving up and down the fretboard has been removed, replaced with the more accurate and convenient scroll wheel. With the slide control fully down, frets 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 are displayed. The slide control can be raised to move up the neck one fret at a time until frets 18, 19, 20, 21, and 22 are displayed. The components of the chord (root, third, fifth, seventh, etc.) are aligned horizontally at the bottom below each string. New in this update are three buttons at the bottom, Clear, Play, and Save. Lastly, the complete name of the chord is displayed in bold at the top of the window.
With Chord Dictionary set to display frets 1 - 5, the user simply clicks on a string to produce a large black dot or fingering (e.g., 1st string, 3rd fret; 5th string, 2nd fret; 6th string, 3rd fret for G Major). Each click changes the name of the chord and the components of the new chord (it is also possible to eliminate a string from the fingering). Since many chords can be played using a variety of fingerings (inversions and voicings), musicians can quickly determine if they are playing such a variant. In fact, Chord Dictionary will name every conceivable chord on the guitar neck, including those that are physically impossible to play. That means that it knows music harmony and can figure out chord names just from notes and intervals. This capability is invaluable for students of music theory, jazz guitarists, composers, transcriptionists, and midi-programmers.
The 1.2 update of the app adds several features of particular interest to students of music theory and others. Now, the app can actually play the chord in addition to identifying it. Having created a fingering, the Play button allows the user to hear single notes or complete chords. To include the sound of an open string in a chord, the musician can click above the string, creating a large white dot (no fingering). Playback reproduces the sound of every string with a white or black dot, strummed downward. The professionally recorded library of individual notes, played on a classical guitar, supplies all the notes to create the selected chord. The update also allows users to save fingering charts, which can be exported as a .png image files.
Learning about chords from books is somewhat difficult, but Chord Dictionary offers an alternative. For example, from the G Major chord it is possible to create a large number of other G chords, such as G maj7, maj9, maj11, maj13, maj9#11, maj13#11, 6, add9, 6add9, maj7b5, maj7#5, m7, m9, m11, m13, m6, madd9, m6add9, mmaj7, mmaj9, m7b5, m7#5, 7, 9, 11, 13 7sus4, 7b5, 7#5, 7b9, 7#9, 7, aug, dim, dim7, sus4, sus2, etc. From the basic, three-finger, G Major chord (1st string/3rd fret, 5th/2nd, 6th/3rd), the musician can learn interactively the result of adding the 4th string: 1st fret (Gaug5); 2nd fret (G6); 3rd fret (G7); 4th fret (Gmaj7); 5th fret (Gmaj), etc.
"How many times have you played a chord but weren't quite sure exactly what chord it was?" asked Sigthor Hrafnsson of ipSoft. "Now with Chord Dictionary, the reverse lookup, you can be certain of the name of every chord."

Teacher's Pet, a Teacher's Best Friend in the Digital Classroom - Published on 12/03/12
IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Texas based House of File today introduces Teacher's Pet 1.0, its new educational app developed for iPad and iPad mini. A wildly practical teaching solution for modern elementary and secondary teachers, as well as college professors, this application offers teachers a centralized academic hub where they can plan, prepare, and present their lessons from one app on their iPad. Present any of your material through your overhead with a VGA connector, or wirelessly through an Apple TV and more.
Dickinson, Texas - House of File, a mobile developer focused on a wide variety of applications, is excited today to announce the launch of Teacher's Pet on the App Store. Created specifically for iPad and iPad Mini and is the only App that Teachers need to make their iPad the Ultimate Teaching Assistant.
First, you can create your lesson plans by date, grade, or subject, and save it to your calendar, or email the lesson plan to your colleagues or supervisor. Then, to prepare your lesson, this app will allow you to prepare notes, use an interactive whiteboard that you can preload with a picture or graphic, import PDFs or PPT presentations, upload videos, pictures, or record lectures and create flash cards, and then save your lessons to your calendar by date and subject.
You can create lessons for as many subjects as you need each day. Finally, after your lessons are saved to your calendar, you can easily retrieve them for presentation. The app lets you present any of your material through your overhead with a VGA connector, or wirelessly through an Apple TV. Your lessons can be emailed or shared over Bluetooth, or you can use the print function to prepare handouts for students.
A well rounded app, Teacher's Pet features password protection options, as well as full iCloud backup support to ensure that your lessons and other data will never be lost. Setting up the app is as simple as inputting your name, school year, and classes that you teach. You're free to set up appointments, reminders and other alerts within the calendar as well.
Device Requirements:
* Compatible with iPad
* Requires iOS 4.3 or later
* 18.1 MB
Pricing and Availability:
Teacher's Pet 1.0 is $4.99 USD (or equivalent amount in other currencies) and available worldwide exclusively through the App Store in the Education category.
