Actually, I pointed it out, not the OP, but thats not really important.

I can only agree there. I never use third party hacks for this sort of
thing, as ultimately they tend to just cause problems.

I've used TinkerTools for years, and have never had any problem.

It is my impression that TT never hacks the system; rather it only allows you to activate options, switches, that Apple placed in the system.

Well...I'm not sure. I know, for example, that my OSX has only two options for scroll arrows: at the top of bottom of the scrollbar, or together. TinkerTool allows me to choose from four: at both ends, together at top, together at bottom, or together at both ends. I don't know, but I'm guessing that TinkerTool might be editing the sys prefs the same as if I did it manually in the Terminal mode. It's just much easier using TinkerTool because I don't have to know how to use Terminal.

I'll answer in order---and thank you Jim Saklad for the Mac values below....doesn'
1) The 'genius' at the Mac store I took it to told me it wouldn't be worth more than $150-$200 and that HE wouldn't bother fixing it if it were him. I want to fix it but can't afford it...I'm just looking for less expensive options.
2) The $350 was to send it off to wherever and have it replaced. I'm guessing the cost of the LCD wasn't in there but if he was that far off on the value of the mac...who knows.
3) This is my model:
MacBookPro4,
4) At the genius bar, we hooked it up to an external monitor and it worked fine. They hooked up an external drive with a 'test' from nVidia which tested for defects in the graphics card but no dice. In the end...yeah, I could hook it up to an external monitor, but that defeats the purpose of a laptop. I have an 27" iMac also--the MacBook Pro was my road machine for freelance client reviews.
I know $350 isn't a lot--even if that's really the price--but for me it is. Most of my $$ went into the iMac. The extra $350 isn't there to spend right now.
Thanks.

I have an iMac, with OS 10.7.5, and use SeaMonkey 2.14.1 for my web
based email client.
As I type messages and make typing errors, before I can catch them
and correct myself, a female voice interrupts and with few exceptions,
every utterance of hers sounds like "period."
Most annoying, and the only way I've found to stop it is to turn my
sound off. That's no solution, as I need sound for some things.
Who knows where I can go and stop this intrusion?
Thanks, keith whaley

Hi. I am running 27" iMac X.6.8. When restarting the iMac, Safari
automatically opens on its own, and to a specific website:
http://debbiedesigns.typepad.com/
I've emptied Safari's cache, to no avail.
I even reset Safari with all the items clicked.
I've repaired permissions several times thru OnyX, and deleted Browser
Cache, Download Cache, Browser History, Recent Searches, Web Page Previews
and Cookies TWICE.
Is there some place I can go to clean up the start up items? The only thing
I want going upon startup is the OS/Finder.
When HOME is selected, this is not the URL/page which pops up.
Thank you for any light you can shed on this mystery.
