Try this, Donna. First, Go to Accounts in System Preferences and look at your start up items, I'll bet Safari is there. Delete it and you'll be good to go - no more Safari opening when you boot. Next, open Safari preferences (General) and set Safari to open with a new window. See what happens. when you open Safari now.

Howdy.
Jeff, I suggest you have your MacBook Pro in to some kind of dealer,
Apple Store Genius Bar, or somebody who can test/check both the video
card and the screen.
You wouldn't want to go ahead an replace the screen only to discover
that the real culprit is the video card.
I think you have a MacBook Pro 15 inch Early 2008 model.
The factory video card is: NVIDIA GeForce 8600M GT
Know that Apple provided an extended free warranty on this video card
due to problems with it.
Read this:
<http://support.apple.com/kb/TS2377 >
The problem here is that the extended free warranty expired on December
7, 2012.
Sometimes Apple will just go ahead and fix the problem on an issue like
this even those an extended free warranty period has expired. No
guarantees they will but it's sure worth a try. Plus you could get
diagnosis on whether the issue is the screen or the video card.
Good luck and Merry.

See what you can find on eBay or comparable sites for similar
machines in good working order. Then sell this one, fully disclosing
its problem (Otherwise would be dishonest, of course). You just might
find out that the net cost to you would not be all that terrible.

I was browsing this morning and wanted to keep a a few pages open for later reading. I also made notes in a sticky about some thoughts I had about the topics.
It would have been nice if I could have made an annotation on the web page itself, like putting a sticky note on a report or other paper.
Has anyone seen a program or extension the allows one to do this to a web page or better to any open window?
TIA,
Bill

The Opera browser allows you to append notes relating to a Web site in the browser's sidebar:
Opera (free)
http://www.opera.
In fact, Opera has a bunch of really cool features, and it's fast. I don't know why it isn't much more popular.

Randy, that sounded interesting, so I tried it in Opera. It appeared, though, that the notes are just notes. They are not attached to the web page from which you made them. Is there a way to associate a note to one page, so that if you go to another tab, the note disappears until you go back to the page where you made the note?

No, but you can quickly copy a link into the notes section to associate your notes with a Web site. You can also set up notes as tabs.

That is exactly it. Long before I had even heard of TinkerTool I ran
across a set of terminal commands that allowed you to have both
arrows at both ends.

Can anyone point me to a an application that will allow me to change the year in the EXIF data on several hundred NEF files? Sometime around mid-year I somehow managed to change my camera's setting to 2011.
I have an application, Photo Time Edit, that allows such changes but only on JPGs and TIFFs.
Thanks,

Hi Mike,
It's a breeze in Lightroom if you have that: Metadata > Edit Capture Time
You're then faced with a bunch of options, but not too tough to figure out. Obviously not worth buying Lightroom just for this feature, but LR is a very common tool amongst photographers so hopefully you've already got it?
BTW, I use this *all* the time. When daylight savings time hits, I usually get the time changed on one body but not the others. It's also super handy for syncing shots from multiple cameras and/or photographers. I have one shooter who keeps giving me photos she shot next year ;-)
