In a G5 Mac?

If not, then it's irrelevant.

Firstly, the hardware must support 3TB. Does a G5 support 3TB? The Apple note would suggest that only 500GB has been tested. At that time, there probably would not have been many larger drives available.

Secondly, will the operating system support 3TB. We all know that Leopard and above will because these drives are supported on the Intel machines.

Neither EveryMac or Apple seem to suggest a maximum other than the fact that the interface is SATA1 (1.5GB).

From the OWC site, I can't find anything about 3TB upgrades, but I was wondering if they might require a newer controller card.

Just what I'm finding….

What do you mean???

The drive size limit on a system is only a limit on the capacity the system can logically address, or "see." If you have a compatible connection type (SATA3 for instance), the drive should "work" fine. If you put a 1TB drive into a system that has a 500GB limit, the system will only see and format the first 500GB of capacity. The first 500GB will work. The system will simply ignore the rest.

However, there can certainly be incompatibility between any given drive and system, and this can be system/drive specific right down to the model level. While unusual, the odds of this rise as the difference in model age between the two increases. This can often be bypassed by using the more universal USB connection.

In my experience, it's more likely the drive is simply defective, but that's hard to determine definitively.

All Apple machines can see drives larger than the original spec. Generally much larger. And this limit can be updated by Apple over time via Software Update if they choose so the original spec is meaningless.

For internal use as a Tiger boot drive, the drive should be repartitioned (not "erased") and formatted as Mac OS using Apple Partition table (under the "Options" button).

Cheers,
tod

I am having some problems installing Tiger on it. I am sure I forgot some important details but at 5:30 am I can't think of anything else that would be important

Yes, I am very Leary of this message. It seems real as it opens in a browser window instead of mail. Offers links to upgrade my browser and a link to ignore the upgrade.

When I click on the ignore link it takes me intonYahoo mail.

Also, the Yahoo Mail interface has changed again.

I agree -- phishing.
The current version of Safari on the current version of the OS is 6.0.2

I just downloaded the new iTunes. The old one used to have a "refresh" button in the lower right hand corner, allowing me to manually refresh podcasts. This would force iTunes to download new podcasts right away. I haven't found such a button in the new iTunes. Is there one? If so, where is it? And thank you.
