Click on the box on your left that says Music, then click Apps & you will see the option to update. You can reinstall any apps from Purchased on the iTunes Store Home Page or sync your iPod.

Chris you're correct, I mis-read the issue. But as the OP later pointed out, it can easily be accomplished without the arrows.
In the last 10 years, I have only used the arrows when a touch pad was not available, especially since Gestures became a mainstay. I have never owned a pointing device that had a scroll wheel.
In fact, I have not used the arrows for so long, that I didn't even notice they are missing.
I found the stock arrows, one at the each end of the scroll bar, a waste of time, slowing work down. A long time ago, I did use a tweak to place the arrows both at the bottom of the scroll bar, but since better methods have since been built into the OS, I don't use it anymore.
I find that by avoiding tweaks, hacks and extra third party software to adjust the OS, I have fewer problems. K.I.S.S.

No. As I have said a few times now, that just controls when the schroll bars themselves are shown, not the schroll bar ARROWS, which is what the OP was asking about. As far as I know, there is (non third party) option to turn these back on in Lion onwards.

I have to thank this discussion for making me finally feel like I'm keeping pace with technology. I've had a Macbook Air for 18 months and am running Mountain Lion. I haven't used or needed scroll bars since I got it because everything is done on the trackpad with 2 or 3 fingers. I notice that scroll bars do appear momentarily when I use the 2 finger scrolling, but I don't use them and they are small and go away as soon as I stop scrolling. I love not having to use scroll bars. They have become vestigial. I feel so smart, for a change!

Scrollbars in general and arrows in particular are pretty obsolete if you're sed to living with a trackpad.

I brought it to the Genius Bar just before Thanksgiving. They told me it was the display and unfortunately doesn't fall under the nVidia recall. Total cost for them to send it in to replace the display: $350. Can't do that.
Thanks for the eBay suggestion. Sometimes I forget about eBay. Never go there anymore for some reason. I'll also check out the ifixyoui.com site.
Thanks again.

But after that, start with eBay. There is a thriving trade in both broken machines and individual parts. In your case, you probably want a failed machine with a good screen. Your likely to pay more for someone to have pulled and properly identified the part.
Then you might shop for an Internet fixed price repair vendor like "ifixyoui.com." This is a thriving business now and it works quite well. Research the specific vendors reputation, but my two experiences with these have worked out quite well.

Other than this problem, it's working great.
Does anyone know of a place/person I could get a replacement display from that won't cost me over $200?? The actual value of the laptop isn't over $150 so obviously, it isn't worth it to spend the $$$$$ to send it out to be replaced. I figure if I can get a replacement display for a decent cost, I'll do it myself.
Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance.

Just curious, how did you arrive at a value of $150+ for a 2008 MBP?

I was wondering that too.
I have a feeling it's worth a lot more than you think.
And $350 for a replacement LCD is way cheap!

Try connecting an external monitor. If the problem appears on there, then the problem exists in the video circuitry/graphics card and not the LCD screen.

iTunes sync's to EVENTS in iPhoto, or to any picture folder on your HD, but you are correct it will not sync individual photos. Do I think it is odd? I'd rather sync my chosen folders of photos rather than hundreds/thousands of individual clicks, but I don't know why it isn't programmed that way. jr

Restoring from a backup copy of the iPhoto application in Time Machine didn't solve the problem so I had to reinstall iPhoto from the original installer. It runs now but none of my photos are visible.
It seems that the iPhoto library is not a separate visible file (a la iTunes). Where is it located and/or how do I recover the iPhoto library from TM backup?
Thanks,
Dave

Did TM backup the file User/Pictures/iPhoto Library? That is where all the images in your iPhoto Library are stored as a database file (one file).

I have a friend -- let's call him Bobby -- whose address is fairly plain, and at a popular mail provider, gmail. Let's say it's KnobbyBobby@gmail.com . That's not it, but it's similar.
Whenever I send an email with his address anywhere in a message (To, CC, Bcc, etc.), I get this message as soon as I click the Send button:
smtpauth.sbcglobal.net doesn't recognize knobbybobby@gmail.com as a valid email address."
If I forge ahead and force Mail to send it, Mail times out waiting for the smtp server to accept it.
What is it that makes this address so objectionable? (There are 2 or 3 other friends' addresses that generate this same message, all at different mail domains.
Otherwise, Mail fetches & sends messages without issue.
My broadband service is through ATT.
Puzzled,
Dave
