I have a MacBook Pro late 2012 with a core i5 processor and 8 GB RAM.

I have a 1 TB USB 3.0 portable drive that I use exclusively for my time machine backups.

The drive is full so that it continually rewrites over the oldest backup which is now from December 2012.

Since January 13th, the drive continually produces the same error:

"Time Machine couldn't complete the backup to "My Backup".

The backup disk ran out of space unexpectedly. Time Machine will trya to make space available by removing expired backups during the next scheduled backup."

That is what it usually does but lately it does not seem to be able to complete this process.

Any suggestions as to what might be going on?

Share w us what is the size of the Hard Drive you are backing up, or the size of the partition you are backing up.

How large is your hard drive?
How much data is on it?

I restarted my TM in October, 2012.
I have 200GB of data on it.
My TM backups total 527GB.

My first guess is that in order to fill up a terabyte drive in this time you have some VERY large files being changed episodically, such as a virtual hard drive for a Windows emulator.

As for the fail message, I wonder if somehow the permissions on the backups have gotten altered, or the files locked. Beyond that, I have no idea.

Not sure. You could use rules, but if you click on the down-arrow at the left of the Inbox, don't you see all your separate accounts?

> Also, I am on a few digests. When I replied to posts by my PC or iPads, no problem. But I don't seem to be able to reply from the Mac because it goes from a me.com, which the digests don't recognize. How can I correct that?

In the "From" field in the reply message, there should be a double-arrow icon. Clicking on that lets you choose what account to reply from.

You should probably also go to Mail menu / Preferences/ Composing (tab) and under "Addressing," choose "Send new messages from "Account of selected mailbox," assuming that you will be replying from the mailbox belonging to that account. In digests and lists, you have to reply from the account you used when you signed up for the list.

Carol,

Sounds like you have not set up the accounts for each different email address you have. Mail/ Prefs/ Accounts (tab). When you set up an account for each different email account, you should have a different mailbox under Mailboxes/ Inbox.

If you need further filtering, then you can set up Rules to Move the email to another mailbox that you can create under On My Mac.

It's easy.

I assume that you're using Apple Mail. Rather than my trying to explain it here, it would be much more practical and efficient for you to read the instructions in Help.

Launch Mail and, in the top menu, go to Help > Mail Help. Type in "mailboxes" in the search field, and you'll find all the instructions for adding new mailboxes you need. After you've added all your new mailboxes, go back to Help and search for "rules". This will tell you how to set up rules for sorting your incoming messages.

If you have any questions, just ask.

Welcome to Macintosh.

Yes…I meant to mention accounts in my previous post, but somehow it slipped right out of my mind.

Before you do the mailbox things I mentioned before, go to Mail Help and do a search for "add accounts in mail".

You say "despite", but I expected that to work, for the same reason as I
expected my suggestion to work.

I Have had my Mac pro for 2 years now, starting with Snow Leopard, and I
have always been able to open multiple image.

Dan, thanks for telling me that it was something Apple did, and not me. i
was kinda hoping that was the case. This way is more attractive, but the
other was faster and simpler.

I can do that in 10.6, and do recall it in early systems too. Select a lot of images and then either double click on one of them or type command-O.
