My husband has his eye on a refurb iMac. We might go that route in the the future. We have a refurb Macbook and it's great. You can still get Apple Care for it.

What does "new iMacs" mean to him? How old does he want to go? What are the features he doesn't like in the "new ones," or the ones missing in the new ones that he wants to keep?

My Mac OSX is backed up by Time Machine to USB 3 Hard Disk.
What is best most foolproof way to back up my Win7 BootCamp?
(preferably FREE or cheap!)
ANY IDEAS?

Looks very good for $19.99 have you had to restore ever? Do we know it
works well for restores?
Thank you so much for your help. Does anyone else have any favorites?
I have to soon get a larger drive for my MacBook Pro Retina, when I do I
will want my TImeMachine backups and WinClone backups to be used to
transfer everything to the new drive so hopefully it will not just be files
but all the other bits and pieces to be a full system backup.

You still need to use Bootcamp assistant to partition the drive on the
new installation - it doesn't work if you just leave the space. I've
used the restore twice now, and it worked both times.

Thank you so much Tim!
You are a comrade, scholar and Gentleman.
I love my MacBook Pro Retina and Mac OSX I use it all the time as a Mac,
and only use Win7 for work stuff (programming, MS-Office, some very
specialized software) I much prefer Mac OSX for all my computing. It is
great hardware and software a very pleasant computing experience.

Greetings,
I have a PowerMac G5 running OS 10.4.11 & CD's have stopped playing.
What's going on is the little tray comes out & goes back in in all right, but it doesn't close.
However, you can nudge it & it'll close. But the CD just sits in there & does nothing.
Yet, even though the same thing happens I can play a DVD.
So any ideas or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Zentura

Carol,
How do you think that your PC knew those people or groups?
When you say Yahoo and Gmail, was that *webmail*, using a web browser such
as Internet Explorer, or an email *client* such as Outlook or Outlook
Express?

I think 'ls -R' will include a subfolder as a file so if you have 10
folders with 100 files each it will count 1010 (1000 files + 10 folders)
instead of just the 1000 files.

I've been playing with this using a simple folder structure, Home > Sites
in fact, which contains only the default files and subfolder and is
therefore easy to check manually.
The command counts not only subfolders but also the blank lines used to
separate subfolders in the listing. At the same time it does *not* count
hidden files such as .DS_Store and .localized. If you correct for the
latter by using -RA, however, you are still stuck with the first problem.

This may or may not be a Mac problem but it certainly is on my Mac Pro. Running 10.6.8, 10GB RAM, Dual Quad-Core Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz.
I live in Thailand and I should preface this post 1st by saying the internet is not free, and how "free" your's is depends on where you live. China is an extreme example and Thailand blocks sites it deems improper or counter to politics it does not like. There are ways around this such as an anonymizing browser like Tor which broadcasts a different IP address than the one you have. Also using a VPN can circumvent these things but costs money and I've not tried that.
That said, I'm trying to figure out why certain sites will not open properly that have nothing to do with politics or "immoral" sites. Groupon is the one presently that I'm having issues with and have been able to document and provide examples of to post here.
Using Safari to open my Yahoo mail, I will get groupon.th emails that look like this.
http://tinyurl.com/berkfh3
The images are HTML and not attachments, so something is blocking the images from the source in the email to begin with.
If I go to one of the links, the page will EVENTUALLY open like this. mygroupon.co.th responds very slowly in Safari and Firefox.
http://tinyurl.com/ahasfk7
If I go to their homepage, it looks like this.
http://tinyurl.com/bhgnbdg
Checking the Activity Window, I get this message for one of the pages.
http://tinyurl.com/b45r6ou
I use Open DNS with their adresses of 208.67.222.222 and 208.67.220.220. I removed them, turned off OpenDNS Updater.app and reverted back to the default with no joy. I turned off ALL my Safari browser extensions which includes AdBlock with no change. Firefox opens all the pages in the same manner.
The thing that mystifies me is Tor browser, which anonymizes my IP, opens the pages quickly (which is unusal for Tor) and with all the graphics displayed. FYI Tor is a version of Firefox.
I have written to support at groupon.th and am waiting for a response, but I'm wondering if any web expert here might have another suggestion to try in my setup? Since Tor browser can open the site with no issues at all, can we assume this is an IP issue?
Thanks!

Checking the Activity Window, I get this message for one of the pages.
http://tinyurl.
Thanks!

My wife uses a PC with Windows 7, and Firefox for her browser. She has a lot of Favorite Bookmarks saved in Firefox. She recently bought an iPhone5 running iOS6.
She does NOT have a Mac or an iCloud account.
Is there a way to transfer her Firefox favorite websites to her iPhone so Safari can use them?
If so, is there a way to keep them synchronized?
If not, any recommended suggestions appreciated.
Thanks,
Lou

Here's an article that might help: http://www.macivers
I think what I would try would be to export the favorites on the PC, then import them into Safari on the PC. Then set iTunes to sync the Safari bookmarks. That would probably serve to at least get the bookmarks onto the iPhone.
After that, I suppose she would just have to repeat the process now and then. I don't know a way to keep them synched without such a process. Maybe someone else does?

"Xmarks for Safari" the paid version will keep iOS and OS X bookmarks in synch. Don't know if there's a Windows version. http://www.xmarks.com >
