I don't think there's ever been a DVD+RW DL (or a DVD-RW DL). DL has only
been available for +R and -R AFAIK.

Hi, Dan. The DVD is marked DVD+R(DL in smaller caps)
So I guess it's DVD+R DL as you suggested I get.

SimplyBurn, recognized the data files and burned them immediately.
Mountain Lion Disk Utility did not allow me access to the same data files.
The files were grayed out in it's dialogue.

Wish I understood why. Thanks. jr

As a general rule, I skip AppleCare for desktops, but get it for laptops and other mobile devices.

MacBook Pro w/ Mac OS 10.8.2, iPhone 4S 64 GB and iPad 4 32 GB w/ iOS 6.0.1

(I am planning to get the faster processor, a fusion drive, as well as Pages, Numbers and Keynote, which all adds up, and AppleCare is an extra cost I'm not sure about.)

I agree with Paul to an extent. Back in the days when flat panels were new and CRT were still prevalent, I included everything with a flat panel. I still think I would want to get AppleCare for a 27" iMac. Also remember that any Apple hardware accessories purchased at the same time are covered, like keyboard, trackpad, Airport Base Station. Not to mention the extended phone support.

On my early 2008 MBP, the mother board had to be replaced for a small board on it, and just before the AppleCare expired, the keyboard began to stick. It was nice to have the AppleCare to take care of that.

Your going to spend about $2000, for me, I would spend the 13% for the added insurance. Remember, you can buy it anytime before the 1 year warranty runs out if it is a budgetary concern. Just remember to buy it before it runs out.

I totally agree. I once added up what I had spent on AppleCare and the benefit over several Macs it had given me, and the result was that it had MORE than paid for itself. Maybe not with this machine, but maybe the next. I have a policy to always buy AppleCare, because when you need it, it's priceless.

For simplicity sake I used '.' which basically means start counting from
here so like Otto is saying you need to specify where you want to start for
simply go there with cd. You can specify it or just go to it. Otto's tip on
dragging the folder into teminal to get the path is also a good one.

To move between volumes try typing

cd /Vol and then hit the [Tab] key and it will finish typing it out to
-
cd /Volumes/ now type part of the Volume (drive) you want .. in my cace I
type Ma getting and hit tab .. and get
cd /Volumes/Macintosh\ HD (the \ means the space is part of the name)

Once you get to the directory you want you could simply count from there.
Most Linux commands work this way for both commands and paths.

It might be worth expanding on the convention Dane mentions here.
. means the current directory
.. means the parent of the current directory
~ means your Home directory
/ means the root of the whole volume

So you can use cd to navigate the directory structure and "." will then
refer to whichever directory (folder) you are in. I'm in the habit of using
the ls command after using cd to check that I'm where I think I am,
especially before trying a command I'm not sure about.

Otto, is the vertical line character a pipe symbol, or a lower case "L"?

Actually, you can also download iOS apps in iTunes and then sync them to
the iDevice, but I always do it on the iPhone itself.

I use my MBP with an external keyboard (it came with my G3 in 1999) but at night I wish it were illuminated like the MBP's own keyboard. Can anyone recommend a good lighted external keyboard with a number pad? USB connection would be fine. A web search found several keyboards but I can't tell how dependable and easy-to-use they are.

HI CAROL!

I have a Logitech Illuminated Keyboard 920-000914 you can google that name and number, and bring up all who sell it.

This thing is super-thin, but its the full 106 keys. Good to type on, good illumination.

Oh, it doesn't mention mac compatible, but it is. Mac OS configures the keyboard.

Hope this helps--God Bless!
