Can you download the shows as an MP3 after they air?
(no, I don't know the time lag between show-time & MP3 available)

Then just import the MP3 into iTunes & sync to device.

If you have a device that hasn't worked since you got it, complain to the
store/provider/your credit card company about defective merchandise & get it
replaced under warranty -- unless you've just waited too long to do that.
Write a letter to the CEO.

I'm surprised that a pay-subscription company manages to keep any customers
if their product doesn't work with software that's at least a *little* up to
date. They're proud of this, are they?

Sorry but I'm really upset that my new Samsung smart phone hasn't worked
since the day I got it.

Back to the iTunes and iPod….As I've explained a half-dozen times….I want to
get the downloads from the Coast to Coast AM radio station, as they
broadcast at night and I don't want to stay up all night, and their podcasts
are only compatible with Version 8. That's what they tell me, and when my
computer was rebuilt I tried installing the newer versions and they wouldn't
work, so had to go all the way back to Version 8. It surprises me that
Version 8 is still available. So that's why I've asked if the "books" on
iTunes has stopped working in the latest version, as it has in Version 8.
So would you please answer that question?

It's not just Apple :0) Stuff is changing so fast these days that you need
new hardware by any manufacturer every two or three years to keep up with
the changes.

Really?
My 10-yr old TV works just fine.
My 5 yr old iPod works just fine.
So do my (I forget -- 5-8 anyway) DVRs.

No, they can't do all the latest gee-whiz stuff but they haven't suddenly
developed dementia so they can't do what they've always done.

My car still gets me places & carries cargo, & it's past its tenth birthday
too. However, it does not have built-in GPS, TV, Bluetooth, all-mod-cons,
etc. none of which really interest me. (It does have air bags & heated
seats, which do.)

You only "need" to buy new stuff if the old stuff either quits working or
you ***CHOOSE*** to get something with all the newer bells & whistles.

I have Overdrive on my computer from when I was using it before, and I have
an adobe.com account, but it still said there was no longer any audio books
for iPod Classics of any kind. I did see mention of iPod Touch. Personally
I'm getting tired of Apple only giving about a year and half on a device,
before you can no longer use it and have to buy an upgraded device. I'm not
going to keep playing that game with Apple.

I don't know about Overdrive or Adobe, but I certainly have some audiobooks
on a 5-yr old model of iPod Touch. Also on 3-yr old phone & ipad. And a iPod
(?classic?) from about 6-7 years ago. All syncing with the latest iTunes
(11).

Some particular providers may no longer support the system you have, but the
devices themselves are hardly doorstops.

Libraries are stretched pretty thin these days, no surprise if they have to
limit what they can continue to support.

See if you can get what you want in another format -- e.g. MP3 -- which you
can sync to an older device.

Connie,
Do you mean audible.com? I don't think adobe has books.  But, audible does and they are wonderful.
