Art Authority Announces Year Three of Its Intern Program for Art Majors - Published on 04/16/13

Art Authority, developers of the award-winning line of classic art apps, today announced year three of its Summer Intern Program for students majoring in art and art history. As in previous years, the program aims to provide students with experience working on a cutting-edge app within their field of study while at the same time enhancing the database behind the Art Authority line of apps.
Ashland, Oregon - Art Authority, developers of the award-winning line of classic art apps, today announced year three of its Summer Intern Program for students majoring in art and art history. As in previous years, the program aims to provide students with experience working on cutting-edge apps within their field of study while at the same time enhancing the database behind those apps. Last summer, interns helped add 10,000 works to the 60,000+ Art Authority collection.
College students majoring in any art discipline need only a computer and an Internet connection to apply for, and, if accepted, participate in the program. Participants will work out of their homes and dorm rooms. The positions are unpaid, but course credit is often available. Students will also gain valuable real-world experience as the art field follows music, movies, books and photography into the online, digital realm. Information and an online application form are available on the Art Authority Summer Intern Program website.
"Last summer's program was very successful, with both interns and Art Authority learning a whole lot," said Alan Oppenheimer, president of Art Authority. "This summer we plan to build on that knowledge. For technology-focused students, we think working with our apps is a great alternative to a traditional art internship."
Although responsibilities will vary, many interns will concentrate on works of specific artists. Others may collaborate with specific museums or collections. Students will scour the Internet, libraries and other sources for images and associated information that can be added to or updated in the Art Authority database, where it is then used by Art Authority, Art Alert, and other components of the Art Authority line.
Art Authority for iPad is the only iPad Reference app to be named to Apple's Rewind 2011 and Rewind 2010 "best of" lists. It brings over 60,000 high-resolution classic works of art to users' fingertips. Hailed as "an experience unlike any other" and "visually dazzling," the app professionally displays paintings and sculptures by over 1000 major western artists from ancient times through current-day. The app is in use by Seton Hill University and a number of other educational institutions worldwide. Art Authority for Macintosh and iPhone bring similar functionality to these devices.

Andover, Minnesota - Traditionally, a gap has existed between viewing proofs of photographs and how they will appear at larger sizes on display. Picture My Wall bridges this gap by allowing the user to virtually place images on their wall. The resulting layout can then be modified to ensure the sizes and quantity of images ordered is appropriate for the display area.
The user creates a layout scene by selecting a background from their pictures, adding frames, and then adding their images to the frames. Manipulation of the scene is achieved with intuitive gestures that allow the user to rotate, resize and relocate frames. Created scenes can be saved for later editing or emailed for feedback. A dazzling collection of small objects from which to make noses, eyes, mouths, hair, eyebrows, clothing, and more is neatly arranged into five categories, accessible from the materials window, scrolling vertically on the right. Kids will find 35 different colored buttons, plain and decorative, solid and patterned, with buttonholes and without. Next, is a wide assortment of 30 fibers, threads, laces, wool, and pipe cleaners in balls, skeins, strips, coils, bunches, and braids. Puppet Workshop is designed to enable young imaginations, and kids are free to place as many doodads as they like on their puppet-in-progress. They simply touch and drag to position it. As they do, five control buttons drop down from the top of the screen: Rotate Counterclockwise, Rotate Clockwise, Enlarge, Shrink, and Flip Horizontally. When finished, the control buttons go back up offscreen. Buttons, strands, ornaments, etc. can be positioned on top of each other, and young artists can easily drag items to change their position or layer.
