But whether you prefer mousing or key-strokes, is as personal as whether you prefer a mouse, trackball or trackpad.
Jennifer and Jeannie, if you were proficient with Windows, you will find the hardest part of the transition to a Mac will be the vocabulary. Because if you have the right term, Recycle or Trash, you can look it up in Help. F1 on a PC and in the Menu Bar on a Mac.
Yes, there are a few muscle memory things to get over, red dot or X, Cmd + C or Alt + C, but those are no big deal, given a little time.

If you have a full keyboard (with keypad, etc.) the forward delete key is just below the fn (function key).If you've got a short keyboard, it's a combination of the fn key and the delete key, I believe.

I just wish the close-window- and quit-application-shortcuts were not right next to each other....

Yes, but I don't use them often enough that I need to rush them and, in any
case, if I quit an app instead of just closing the window I'm only in the
same situation as a Windows user (who has no such choice anyway).

I have surprised myself and gotten used to the red dot to close windows. I had to turn on my previous laptop today (Windows) and kept trying to go to the left to close Windows.
The terminology is similar but not the same so I believe you are right about that'll be the hardest part to overcome.
Thank you for helping me!

I understand that, Jeannie! The program I use the most is Office 2011. It's similar - but it's different. I came from Office for PC 2007 and now it's Office for Mac 2011. I'm not sure if the differences are in Office or in Office for Mac. It's not bad but it just adds to the whole learning environment when even the Office programs are new/different.

Howdy.
Jennifer, the presence of a single Delete key or a backward Delete and
a forward Delete key depends on which keyboard you are using.
Since Apple has been emphasizing the smaller size of things the default
keyboard packaged with many Macintosh models is the small one which has
the one Delete key plus a Function key (Fn) used for other actions like
backward delete.
You could get an Apple extended alum large keyboard which is what I use
which has two Delete keys and the other extra keys including the 10 key
section at far right.
I sent pictures of these to your email address (since our group is not
able to have attachments in messages).

Thanks! I did get your pictures and I have the keyboard listed on the top of the email (the small one). I do like having smaller "things" like Apple has been changing over to (news to me as a newbie) so I will just have to learn as I go.
Everytime I think "I am pretty sure I've got the hang of this now!" I come up with some question that seems silly/dumb!
Thanks for helping me and not making me feel dumb for asking!

I'll try it: aaaa b__b c__c dddd.
By golly, Jim, it worked! Many thanks... When I moved from my mid-year 2007
iMac with it's wired keyboard, to my mid-2011 iMac, with it's wireless
keyboard, I lost the forward delete key! I really missed it.
And thank you for asking, Jennifer! You see, there ARE no dumb questions,

Howdy.
There are many ways to copy your iPhone Camera Roll photos to your
Macintosh.
1. iTunes
2. iPhoto
3. Image Capture
4. Preview
The 4 programs above come with all Macs. iPhone and iTunes are
intended to work together for transfers and syncing and backup of the
entire iPhone.
5. 3rd party programs including some for wired transfer and WiFi
transfer.
I use an iPad and an iPhone and a Nikon digital camera for photography.
The Nikon comes with a pair of applications for Macintosh that are for
transferring photos from various devices to your Macintosh. Other
camera makers such as Canon and Sony also provide similar applications
for the same purpose.
The Nikon software also works with iPad and iPhone.
The reason I use the Nikon software is because it's very flexible, lets
me see each image in a Nikon preview window (can be enlarged) to decide
whether to transfer or delete or keep on the camera, and while the
transfer is being done it renames each photo with the file name style I
prefer.
So each photo transferred is renamed from the generic IMGxxx.jpg or
DSCxxx.jpg to a YEAR-MONTH-DAY-INDEX NUMBER-DASH format.
A photo taken today (April 10, 2013) and transferred today would be
renamed automatically to:
2013-04-10-398-.jpg
Then when all are transferred to my Mac I open the new transfers in an
asset manger like iMedia Pro or GraphicConverter and go through each
one and add a text description name after that last dash so the file
might look like:
2013-04-10-398-red Corvette.jpg
2013-04-10-399-brown dog.jpg
2013-04-10-400-Empire State Building at 32nd Street.jpg
The Nikon transfer software can rename in any other manner you choose,
can add the dashes, or invert Month and Day in the European fashion,
etc.
BTW, iMedia Pro and GraphicConverter (great shareware program like an
asset manager Photoshop) can transfer from iPhone to Macintosh.
Very convenient and a big time saver.
Good luck!
Denver Dan

The reason I use the Nikon software is because it's very flexible, lets
me see each image in a Nikon preview window (can be enlarged) to decide
whether to transfer or delete or keep on the camera, and while the
transfer is being done it renames each photo with the file name style I
prefer.
So each photo transferred is renamed from the generic IMGxxx.jpg or
DSCxxx.jpg to a YEAR-MONTH-DAY-
A photo taken today (April 10, 2013) and transferred today would be
renamed automatically to:
2013-04-10-398-
Then when all are transferred to my Mac I open the new transfers in an
asset manger like iMedia Pro or GraphicConverter and go through each
one and add a text description name after that last dash so the file
might look like:
2013-04-10-398-
2013-04-10-399-
2013-04-10-400-
The Nikon transfer software can rename in any other manner you choose,
can add the dashes, or invert Month and Day in the European fashion,
etc.
BTW, iMedia Pro and GraphicConverter (great shareware program like an
asset manager Photoshop) can transfer from iPhone to Macintosh.
Very convenient and a big time saver.
Good luck!

Gurus
My hubby has a MAC desktop, 3 years old. Working fine.
OSX 10.6.8
3.06 GH
4 G memory
Today for the first time when he was trying to play a youtube video (he
uses Safari) it told him he had to have the latest version of Flash player.
SO he uninstalled and reinstalled flash and still no you tube vids will
play.
I've been searching all over and the 'solutions39; I find on line are not
working. Please don't suggest Firefox. Just because :).
Thanks

Thanks, I just did that and was about to cancel my query. I cannot imagine how it got disabled, but that solved it.
Thanks again
