Well what I was trying to do was get some books for my iPod from the public library, like I used too, rather than spending a bunch of money with audible.com. I wasn't able to get any, so I had to make my 3-day trip to Georgia without anything to listen to, but the radio. I just got back today and found all the emails in answer to my questions. Connie

Audible (http://www.audible.com/dc) offers audiobooks for a number of devices, including iPods. I've been an Audible customer since 2006.

Yes, I saw that the iPhone and iPad had links to the books, and the iPod
Touch, but no longer the Classic that I have. connie

Connie

I have recently downloaded audio-books through overdrive that I borrowed
from the local library, for my iPhone, and iPad.

Actually when I click on books in iTunes, it tells me it's no longer an available function. I thought maybe it's due to the version of iTunes I'm using, but I don't know that. Connie

Huh??

I've gotten audiobooks from iTunes, Audible, Amazon, ripped-from-CD or from
cassette-tape into iTunes. Haven't gotten any from a library, though.

What *exactly* is the problem you are having -- getting them into iTunes at
all, getting them into the "books" section, getting them to sync, or what??

I believe it depends on what public library you're using. I use the Cincinnati Public Library, as I live north of the city in a smaller community where our library isn't as good. The Cincinnati Public Library used to have audio books for iPod Classic, and I downloaded them in Overdrive. Now the Cincinnati Public Library says they don't provide that service any more. I thought their service worked, but maybe people were able to keep them too long or something. I hope they're working on a new service, but they didn't tell me that was the case. So a public library in another city might have the availability when we don't have it here.

Connie

Huh? again!
What library system are you talking about?

My library has plenty of digital stuff.
There are other public libraries I could also use.
I just haven't done any digital-borrowing yet.
Nor have I d/l any of the *free* music available (to keep, not merely
borrow) from my local system.

I have Overdrive on my computer from when I was using it before, and I have an adobe.com account, but it still said there was no longer any audio books for iPod Classics of any kind. I did see mention of iPod Touch. Personally I'm getting tired of Apple only giving about a year and half on a device, before you can no longer use it and have to buy an upgraded device. I'm not going to keep playing that game with Apple.

Do you know if a person can have two different versions of iTunes running on their computer? As I said below, in order to get the Coast to Coast AM downloads, I have to run Version 8. I upgrading to Version 10 once, and then it stopped working. Each time I've tried to download a new version, it sees the old version, and tries to upgrade the old version, rather than just giving me another version. Again, not a very workable program from the Apple people, when only certain versions work for certain things.

It's not just Apple :0) Stuff is changing so fast these days that you need new hardware by any manufacturer every two or three years to keep up with the changes.

Any new iTunes will replace you existing version. Just run the update.
