Yesterday Apple released Java and Safari updates. I choose to ignore the iTunes 11 update, but did not realize that all system software updates are hidden within this one Software Update. I looked several times yesterday for some way to download this update. I now have to manually open the Update note to see any updates along with the iTunes 11 update.

Just sayin'

Hal,

Apparently I am missing something here. Are you trying to say that either or both of Java and Safari updates are forcing a upgrade of iTunes to v 11?

If so, where are you seeing this, because a quick looking at the detail web pages does not seem to indicate this.

Did you click the "More" link? Doing so reveals the additional updates,
and the option to update any, all or none of them.

That was what I realized. Now I must click MORE to see all updates, because I choose not to update iTunes.

I'm still missing something. Where is this "More" link?

It's on the App Store write up regarding the update available & is at the bottom of the wording. When you click it, you will see the various updates available with individual "update" buttons.

Pat,

Hal asked about Software Update, not the (Mac) App Store.

Java and Safari updates do no appear in the (Mac) App Store, at least not in 10.7.5.

Hal,

Are you speaking of something in the (Mac) App Store, in 10.8?

They do in 10.8 "Software Update" actually opens the Mac App Store.

Thanks all.

I did by a USB 3.0 enclosure for the old drive to use as an external drive.

I guess cloning is the way to go.

I keep a copy of my hard drive at my work in case my computer and back up drive gets stolen or damaged somehow.

Depending on where you live and time of day, I've found that sites can misbehave. Since I live 12 hours ahead of CDT, I frequently find sites that won't load or are missing tons of content, or load very slowly. These can include totally innocuous sites like Spamcop.

I attribute it to either site maintenance, or content controlled by IP location, or Thailand's Ministry of Information and Communication Technology who, among other things, censors what you can access here. Wikileaks page- <http://tinyurl.com/d8m64ce>

Sites like Hulu and many others aren't allowed to be viewed outside the US for copyright reasons. There is an ad-on for Firefox which can trick those sites and allow you to view them and I use it. You can get it here or through the Firefox Ad-On manager. https://mediahint.com/

Your supplied link has spaces thanks to Yahoo Groups, so clicking on the link (in Safari) takes me to <http://edition.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c4> which is not the video you're looking for I think. That page then takes quite a while to load. The link then becomes <http://edition.cnn.com/video/?hpt=hp_c4#/video/world/2009/03/18/robertson.iraq.medical.break.cnn> and then plays. Go figger eh? Going through the supplied URL and deleting those spaces ends up with the same result.

Pasting the URL into Firefox with the MediaHint ad-on employed, the video and URL work as they should.
Worst case scenario, if under a repressive government or governing body, you can go the VPN route which will cost money to do so. Tor browser can accomplish nearly the same thing but in the process of protecting you, it disables flash and other things so you'll miss out on a lot of content even though you'll have access to the site. This can be tweaked in the prefs to allow flash, but then you won't be as anonymous.

I have found that the ClickToPlugin add-on for Safari is causing my problems with CNN.com videos:

http://hoyois.github.io/safariextensions/clicktoplugin/support.xhtml

Scroll down to the section "Solutions to common issues" and to the first question: "I found a web page that does not work with ClickToPlugin enabled, but does when ClickToPlugin is disabled. Surely there is a bug in ClickToPlugin!"

There are solutions to this issue.

Thanks,
Dave

Ahh there's an ad-on I haven't tried and seems like it would be useful for laptops.
Hopefully you can switch it off easily when you need to.

The problem is I don't know how it works. It shows some of my music - some
of them are shown as not on the cloud (the icon with a mark through it),
some have the cloud icon (which appears to be a dotted llne cloud, not a
solid line) and others have nothing.

How can I tell if there is a actual copy occupying space on my computer or
if it is in the cloud only.

Thanks,
Doris

Doris,

Have you read Apple's description of how it works?
