I have only about 1,400 pictures there, while I have almost 45,000 stored elsewhere, so I can't see those this way.

Clicking that gave her a list of every single image file on her computer, apparently, and all the lost pictures were found.

To list all your image files (and all the rest by type) go to the Finder Preference and in the Tool Bar check: "All My Files". Close Finder Preference. Then in the Finder Menu->All My Files. In the "All My File" window select Tool Bar "Arrange": Kind. On my Mac it shows Images first.
You can the click on a file and the Tool Bar: Quick Look. Use the Down Arrow to go thru your images. Not quick but doable.

Mike and Hal, thank you. That is a feature that I never knew existed.

I thought you both had a 3rd party app that was modifying Preview, but Hal's last bit opened it up for me. It hung at 20k images, which will be a pain to go through looking for one misplaced photo. The hang may be because of the 3 dialog boxes I have two about Postscript conversion and one telling me about an empty PDF.

Thanks again.

There are several out there that are proprietary and do not cross to other SMS or Text apps.

A couple of other browsers use Cmd + shift + T to open the last or several last windows. Different apps choose different ways to do things, that is all.

The short answer currently is, you do not need AV software, but you do need to take some other precautions. The 8-Ball also says, "Ask again, tomorrow." Things are changing rapidly for all platforms.

For a very good article on the subject go to

http://www.reedcorner.net/mmg-defense/

Reed also has two very good articles on his site reviewing the effectiveness of many AV software currently available. I don't have their URLs. The results are surprisingly poor for most.

I have not found a mac virus on my machine is 20 years. I did install
sophos anti virus and clamx antivirus and so far have found maybe 20
viruses but every single one of them was a windows virus that was sent
to me or I downloaded and could not infect my Mac. You can install them
if you wish as they are free.

Howdy.

Strongly suggest folks read this article from TidBITS about a
significant but almost undocumented change in Mac OS X 10.8.3 Mountain
Lion.

Mac users recall the introduction of Mac OS X 10.7 Lion and it's insane
removal of the Save As feature from many Apple applications in favor of
some kind of auto save function.

Apparently OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion has reverted many aspects of this
inconvenient feature back to the Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard via an
optional check box in System Preferences (and all previous iterations
of Mac OS back to 1984).

However, since I'm not yet running Mountain Lion (waiting for that
pesky new Mac Pro tower!!), I hope folks will take the time to check
this article on this topic.

Howdy.

I don't think it is a joke. Hope not.

It seems to have been included in TidBITS after April 1st.

If someone on our group is running Mac OS X 10.8.3 Mountain Lion,
please check this out and give us a report.

Checked the article and Prefs.

1. Article pops up a message: "What?! Something about this article seems
odd? Maybe you should read it again carefully, or double-check the date
it was published... "

2. No such entry in Preferences > General. (10.8.3 on MacBook Pro)

Apologies for asking an Off Topic question here, but I don't know another forum to ask it.

I understand that DOCSIS is faster and better than DOCSIS 2, but the budget is very tight.

Comcast is claiming that they have increased my internet speeds, but for the last several months my internet latency and video streaming is getting worse. These are sites that I have visited for years and previously had good results. I'm speaking many sites are 30-60 second delays, with many new sites timing out.

I am using a Linksys CM100, DOCSIS 2 cable modem (bridge). Would getting a DOCSIS 3 make a substantial improvement on the latency and video streaming?

Please keep the response to me simple, as I am not well versed in this and that is why I am asking here. I'm basically looking for a buy or don't buy answer. I have seen a recommended list from Comcast, but suggestions on brands and models are welcome, just remember my budget is small.

I received the same notice from Comcast & went to their office today. They gave me a new modem which I hope to install tomorrow. I'll let you know the result. The unit they provided is a Gateway that will replace the RCA they originally installed a couple of years ago.
