I have a Transcend M3 which was excellent value and does *all* cards. The
P8 looks very similar. You might want to go for a USB 3 model now though,
especially if you use HC or XC cards.

I also have a very compact reader that is effectively a USB flash drive
with replaceable memory (the memory being the card). It is also a nice
holder for a spare card. These are available under various brands.

My Mac Pro (mid-2010 model) came with USB-2 and FireWire 800. Can anyone
recommend a USB-3 PCI card that works well with Macs?
TIA

Thanks, Dane.
I didn't think about that, but it makes sense. I'm pretty happy with my nightly backup strategy using SuperDuper. I'm sure there may be a rare occasion where I wished I had hourly or daily backups to choose from, but so far so good. LR database, images, music, etc, are all handled automatically with my nightly backups.

So many things Apple are lacking in explanation and transparency, and I hate it when things happen without my knowing what is doing what to whom. With SuperDuper, I know what's happening, which I like.

It's such a large file and changes so often that you end up either having to put up with Time Machine running constantly or tell it to ignore the LR catalog, which means you need an alternative backup plan for that anyway.
